  1. If he had tested positive for COVID they would have had to disclose that. By all accounts he seemed fine, or at least normal, up until about an hour before the game. This sounds a lot more like sudden chest/internal pain.
  2. Can we sign him to a contract where he doesn't start playing until May 15?
  3. This may sound cold-hearted, but I really don't care whether he's OK or not. He agreed to take on this job at age 76 after having a second DUI. He clearly wasn't physically cut out to do this for more than a year. He's done this to himself, and made us all miserable in the process.
  4. I get that, but if you want someplace that's going to be a shorter drive for people coming from all of Woodridge, Tinley Park and Munster, your only option is somewhere near one of the exits off the Tri-State between I-55 and I-57, and there isn't anywhere along there to fit in a ballpark with any amount of parking. There's no spot I can find where the Sox can build a stadium and sell more tickets than they sell now.
  5. This makes it doubly ridiculous that the Sox have hitting coaches teaching an approach that sacrifices power for contact.
  6. As others have noted, the huge TV money the Sox rake in makes it nearly impossible for them to move. They can't come close to matching that revenue anywhere else. As to whether or not they stay in their specific location on the south side, that's another question. I'm not privy to the ZIP Code data from Sox ticket sales, but I'd imagine that much larger than 50% comes from south of Madison St., whether that be the city, suburbs, or NW Indiana. I don't see any other site where the Sox could build both a stadium and have anywhere near the parking they have now. Build a new stadium on the north side of 35th, with the home plate to dead center field line pointing straight toward the downtown skyline. On the site of the current stadium, build a complex with restaurants/nightlife/shopping on the ground level and condos going up from there. Of course, get new ownership first.
  7. Singer vs Giolito Make plans now for your first ever MLB Draft Lottery watch party.
  8. I've bought up 30 Kelenic rookie cards. Gonna be able to retire at 35.
  9. Leury by a lot. Yaz, when healthy, is at least catching and working a good pitching staff. Leury is so bad on offense it far, far outweighs his minimal defensive value.
  10. Yeah, that's why moving him upstairs solves very little. He wouldn't be able to pinch hit Leury for Zavala in the 9th inning, but he's still be influencing important personnel decisions. If the new manager isn't someone who's both willing and able to make wholesale changes to the coaching staff, then the impact of a new manager will be minimal.
  11. I'd say it's more likely than not that he's not the manager next season. He won't leave though. He'll say that he doesn't have the energy to manage every day and they'll make him a special assistant to either Kenny or Rick, and he'll still have some input on player decisions when any input is too much.
  12. There's a lottery for the top six picks.
  13. The preseason is over so it's time for us to all look foolish with our season predictions: NFC East - PHI 10-7, *DAL 9-8, WAS 7-10, NYG 6-11 NFC North - GB 13-4, *CHI 8-9, MIN 8-9, DET 5-12 NFC South - TB 12-5, NO 7-10, CAR 6-11, ATL 4-13 NFC West - LAR 12-5, *SF 11-6, ARI 8-9, SEA 5-12 NFC Wild Card: (2) TB over (7) CHI, (3) LAR over (6) DAL, (5) SF over (4) PHI NFC Divisional: (1) GB over (5) SF, (3) LAR over (2) TB AFC East - BUF 13-4, NE 9-8, MIA 8-9, NYJ 4-13 AFC North - CIN 11-6, BAL 9-8, PIT 8-9, CLE 6-11 AFC South - IND 11-6, *TEN 10-7, JAX 6-11, HOU 5-12 AFC West - KC 12-5, *LAC 11-6, *LV 10-7, DEN 8-9 AFC Wild Card: (2) KC over (7) LV, (3) IND over (6) TEN, (5) LAC over (4) CIN AFC Divisional: (1) BUF over (5) LAC, (3) IND over (2) KC Championships: (1) BUF over (3) IND, (3) LAR over (1) GB Super Bowl: Buffalo over LA Rams Season MVP: Aaron Rodgers, Super Bowl MVP: Josh Allen
  14. Even if Eloy gets back to himself he's not an outfielder and there's still a 1B/DH logjam assuming that Abreu is brought back. Moncada I'm not willing to get rid of just yet.
  15. So the start of the problem was batting Engel above Zavala in the order in the first place. That doesn't even make sense. Once that mistake was made, you should absolutely hit Eloy for Engel, but then you should also let Zavala bat.
  16. Would this be the right time to point out that over the last 15 days, Zavala is 4th on the Sox with a .867 OPS and Leury Garcia is 16th with a .000 OPS? This is when I should mention that, right?
  17. I haven't been watching games recently, decided to tune in for the bottom of the 9th, and I get Leury Garcia pinch hitting for someone who is physically capable of swinging and running.
  18. Giants lost to the Jets which makes the Bears the only undefeated team in the NFC, for whatever that's worth.
  19. That was the entire point of my original plan. Did you read it before interjecting yourself into the middle of the conversation?
  20. Eloy has value. Someone would take most if not all of his contract. Leury may need value attached and that's where guys like Burger/Sheets/Sosa come in handy. Even if you can only unload half of Leury's salary, do it.
  21. I just think there's a limit on the number of guys you can replace. Grandal as a catcher would be much harder/more expensive to replace.
