  1. I wonder what it's like to have more than one home run in a week.
  2. That makes me feel better about having added him now, and if he's going to be as good as we think he is, burning the option year shouldn't matter either.
  3. From what I can find, anybody with < 5 years service time that hasn't already had three option years can be optioned. I looked it up when I was wondering whether or not Engel could be optioned (before he got injured).
  4. This. Not only does bringing up Sosa burn an option year, but occupies a 40 man spot. Remillard could have been brought up and then DFA and outrighted back to Charlotte.
  5. If the Sox aren't going to trade for a legit LH bat, a Sheets/Pollock platoon with Vaughn flipping between LF and DH is the best option. Sheets can hit RHP but he just shouldn't ever play in the OF.
  6. Until Moncada proves he can play 3B every day and be productive, Burger needs to stay. It's probably Sosa, but it could also be Haseley.
  7. So I keep hearing JR's personal spokesman tell Jason Benetti that the ball is the reason power is down, so I did some fact-checking. ISO is down league-wide by 15 points from last season, from .167 to .152. Let's call that 15 points the effect of the ball. Looking only at guys who were on the team both seasons. First number is actual change, second is adjusted for the league change. Some of these are small sample sizes for one or both years but I still think it's telling information. Danny Mendick +88/+103 Andrew Vaughn +1/+16 Jake Burger -1/+14 Seby Zavala -12/+3 Yoan Moncada -35/-20 TEAM -41/-26 Leury Garcia -45/-30 Jose Abreu -54/-39 Eloy Jimenez -77/-62 Gavin Sheets down -102/-87 Luis Robert -103/-88 Adam Engel -134/-119 Yasmani Grandal -228/-213 That's too many guys with severely decreased power numbers for it to be just the ball, weather, guys playing hurt, etc. Especially when combined with the decreased K rate and also decreased BB rate, it's pretty clear the team is emphasizing putting the ball in play over power. Should the people running the Sox have built a team that doesn't have to consistently play 1B/DH in the outfield? Yes, but when you aren't even getting the offensive benefit that the extra 1B/DH in the lineup gives you, that's just compounding the problem.
  8. That's gonna be a lot of wasted energy by TA just to get stuck there after two strikeouts and a groundout.
  9. This seems like the very odd stat where you don't want to be first or last. If you're first you're way too passive at the plate and if you're last you're way too aggressive.
  10. My generation doesn't wait for shit. Having to wait until 8:30 for a baseball game to start sucks.
  11. Unwilling to part with: Cease, Kopech, Bummer, Vaughn, Robert, Anderson Only willing to part with for a very hefty price: Giolito, Lynn, Hendriks, Graveman, Lopez Willing to drive to the airport: Vaelsquez, Cueto, Foster, Crochet, Lambert, Ruiz, McGuire, Zavala, Jimenez, Harrison, Engel, Pollock Would say I'd drive to the airport but would drop off in Englewood at 2am: Garcia
  12. LSU probably willing to pay more for top talent.
  13. When I saw Pollock in LF I just assumed they moved Harrison to 3rd base but that made way too much sense.
  14. I hate that the front office and the manager failed so bad at putting together and managing this team. However, with ten guys currently on the injured list, eight more who have been on the injured list, and at least two more who haven't been on the injured list but clearly playing at less than 100%, I don't know that could have been overcome.
