  1. No matter how long the lockout lasts there still has to be some sort of "spring Training". Lots of transactions will happen then,
  2. Tampa had 28 pitchers on the IL by the end of July. They go with an opener once and sometimes twice a week. They do not have their starters go only 3 innings during the 162 game. schedule. They have a much shorter leash on them during the post season as all teams do. Tampa does not pay dick to their pitching staff an treats them as exposable commodities. It is not sustainable to have openers go a max of 3 innings everyday for an entire year. Furthermore, why would a pitcher want to pitch in Tampa when they are chewed up ad spit out?
  3. no, it shows you how a money strapped low market team thinks out of the box team operates to try to win a world series now.
  4. Non-tender? He was the Rays # 1 starter and one of the best pitchers in baseball when he got hurt. He was one of the best prospects in baseball. he has virtually been good his whole short career. No one is scared of TJS surgery anymore because of its success rate. I'm quite sure EVERY team in baseball would be interested in acquiring Glasnow some with significant assets. Hell. I'd trade Romy for Him right now with the hopes I could extend him before he becomes a FA.
  5. You wouldn't trade Kimbrel for Glasnow now? Yeah all that is true, as is Glasnow is a pretty damn good pitcher with electric stuff. I would love him pitching in the pen for us the last month of the year and then having a year as a starter for us with a chance to re-sign him. Still doesn't change the fact that multiple teams wanted Kimbrel, who was the best reliever in baseball at the time of the trade and we couldn't get him for a bag of balls. But, if it fits you narrative that the FO is incompetent that feel free to change history as if we were seeking a broken down reliever for prospect gold.
  6. Really? You know the dodgers, red sox, and Rays all tried to acquire Kimbrel. The Rays Reportedly offered Tyler Glasnow for him. So no, we couldn't just have got him for Heuer, or a bag of balls, The trade didn't work out, but come on Kimbrel was the best reliever in baseball at the time. Why must we continually beat the dead horse on this trade?
  7. You need starters or your pen's arms will fall off by July.
  8. I'm good with a Bassit, kemp, Diekman trade. Not sure what that would cost but would plug some holes.
  9. It doesn't but it kinda does considering who Rodon's agent is and what they would do if he is pitching well.
  10. I would add via trade Raul Mondesi Jr. Also RH hitting RHP well is not the same as hitting LH. first its and average taken against all RHP faced. What it likely shows is that the killed shitty and mediocre RHP and Struggled against the aces. In the playoffs all you see is good to great pitching. Secondly, A left handed hitter causes a pitcher to change his release point making it more likely he makes a mistake. A slider pitcher like Mcullers will also be reluctant to throw a slider to a lefty and will opt for a change-up which would be his 3rd or 4th best pitch, which he is more likely to make a mistake with. So all these post about he's rh but hits rhp good are kind of missing the point. Its a nice thing to have but its better to have some quality LH hitters.
  11. I floated a similar thought on Rodon as the OP in a few previous thread. It actually does make sense for the sox Not to give a QO to Rodon If the sox think his arm is sound just fatigued. The sox may have feared that Rodon would accept the QO and we would have him for 1 year at 18.4mil. Then if he had another cy young worthy year he would be a free agent and get really paid...probably out of our price range. But by not giving him QO the sox may think they can sign him for something like 3-48mil which would be a steal if he is that TOT starter. Meanwhile, the rest of baseball would likely misinterpret the lack of a QO as by the sox as meaning Carlos arm is trashed (as most interpreted here). Which is a reasonable thing to think. Its a theory anyway. What the sox do is likely to validate debunk that theory.
  12. he is worth whatever someone who wants he thinks he is worth.
  13. I imagine we would have been all over him IF he hit lefthanded. But alas he doesn't and as previously mentioned he is a bit older and much of his game is speed involved. Power ages well, but speed doesn't. See Jason Heyward a guy who no longer is much of a speed guy.
  14. Untrue I believe he hit 3hr. 2 against the Cubs and 1 against the bluejays iirc.
  15. I think its likely we will trade for a sp and no we won't empty the farm to do it. Teams need salary relief. Sonny Gray is not going to cost a bevy of prospects, Castillo might. The A's guys vary depending on control left on contract.
  16. Yep, It was discussed earlier n some thread. CBS sportsline recently had an article about it, suggesting he would be a great DH pickup.
  17. Yeah, no chance the reds would want someone like vaughn, sheets, or Crochet. No use for a Cespedes, Burger, Benjamin, Ramos or Montgomery. You do realize that the organizations farm rankings took a hit because the sox graduated a lot of their prospects? They also don't have good evaluations on guys that haven't played much because they were just drafted. Also, an influx of some prospects may still come from the Kimbrel trade.
  18. I'm not opposed to trading to fill our spots. In fact, While its a good FA market in general, it is not so good specifically for the Sox holes. The Trade market could be better for the Sox. Just know, that Winker offensively seems a perfect fit for us, but he is terrible defensively...another DH type. Castillo & Gray our possibilities for SP. Pass on Moose. The A's are also a good poetential partner white, Bassitt, Manea, Montas, & Tony Kemp at 2b.
  19. Well not this guy (me), he is a little better than average. While I would love a stud at 2b, its not a necessity for us to get where we want to go. Segura would be a valuable complimentary piece.
  20. But the problem floated around here was that we had 32 mil tied up in 2 closers which was redundent, and this was a bad allocation of money. Trading Kimbrel for almost equal money money invested in a 2b is a different story. @b is a position of need and Segura would be an improvement over what we currently have. 14 mil invested on a 2b is a different debate and should not be conflated as being equal to Kimbrel. Many wanted semien which was far more then 14 mil for example. Yes I know Semien is not Segura. Also, it seems prospects would also be coming back in that trade.
  21. Why are you still here then? Good luck cheering for the lovable losers.
  22. The Sox have changed their Philosophies numerous times. When Einhorn & Reinsdorf first bought the team they spent like drunken sailors. So much that it pissed Steinbrenner off. He called them the katzenjammer kids or something like that. Fisk, Luzinski, LeFlore, & Bannister were just some of those acquisitions. Later The Albert Belle contract. Recently, not so much.
  23. Well as Curly Bill said in Tombstone...Well, ... Bye.
