  1. Its not about the owner's cash flow. Its about how this contracts can cripple the franchise moving forward because they have to pay a guy 35 million a year and he is hurt and sucks and the team is up against the luxury tax. Oh, and the contract is now unmovable. Also, you have to trade off assets because you can't afford to keep your own players because your saddled with albatross contracts.
  2. Still lots of Free agents left, every single player is still available in trade, people will also be available all the way to the trade deadline. Nobody cares what team you can field on Nov. 29th.
  3. I see many of us on this board about to blow a gasket because we have yet to sign a FA to these multi 100 million dollar contracts. I understand the angst, but I would argue that this is not the year to do so. This is obviously not because of our contention window but because of this years class of FA's. I believe you sign young players entering the prime of their careers to those contracts. Harper/Machado types for example (Though I personally didn't want either specifically). No, I do not want this thread to relitigate that offseason please!!!. The players this year That fit the criteria are all shortstops (correa, seager, semien, etc) and don't fit our needs. Scherzer reportedly may get at least 42mil av on a 3 year contract and he is 37 years old. What could go wrong there? I know many will cry cheap when we don't sign one of these contracts especially when it fits the narrative. but really we should wait until next year for that. My thoughts are open the coffers and get done a Jose Ramirez 7 year deal. whatever it takes to get it done. For this year something like this is what I would suggest: - Rodon 3yr 48 mil. (I discussed in other threads why I think his arm is not done) - Chris Taylor at 2b (Next year he could play almost everyday, but move him around giving T.A., Robert, Moncada, Ramirez and the corner of an occasional day off.) - Sign Robert Perez or Yan Gomes - Players from Trading Keuchel & Kimbrel which could impact above. - Getting another SP through trade from A's or Reds. - sign Tepera
  4. Baseball, by far, is the hardest of the 3 major American sports to predict who will be good or who is the best player in a given year.
  5. Mullins can't throw,no way he plays RF.
  6. Robert hit pretty well last year when he played. Pretty confident there.
  7. i listening to MLB network while driving to GA. Billy Eppler, mets GM, said they would take on a contract to get a good prospect. So Keuchel & Burger for...?
  8. I liked him. He was more good than bad. Seemed a great teammate. Through like 4 innings in relief in an extra inning win when our pen badly depleted. Without that no game 163.
  9. How do you know Gravemen has reached his peak value? Could he still be ascending? LOL find guys before their breakout campaign, yeah no sweat just get a crystal ball. Talk about moving the goal post to the twilight zone.
  10. My initial thought but its clear they are moving on from him with the emergence of Bobby witt and development of nicky lopez...did you know he was from naperville?
  11. We could trade Romy Gonzalez for Mike trout and some jack wagon would be bitching about all the years of control given up for an injured vet on the downside of his career. Its what some people do. Love the sox but hate them too.
  12. Gravemen was one of the dudes I mentally said to myself. "yes plz" when I was looking at a potentially list of fa relievers for 2022. I like this move. Now, can we trade $$$, Keuchel, & Burger to KC for Raul Mondesi Jr. and lots of bubble wrap.
  13. I'll quote myself fro a previous thread so I don't have to tyoe again: Hypothetically, if we got Semien I think he must bat 1st and T.A. second. If Semien leads off and get on first. The first baseman obviously would have the speedy runner on first, The second baseman would have to cheat towards second for double play positioning and a 2b cover on a steal. That leaves virtually the whole damn right side of the infield open for T.A. And T.A. loves to hit to right and is best when he does. This should easily add 15 points to Tim's batting average and greatly increase is RBI's. It would also increase the $$$$ coming on his new contract. The white sox would start a lot of games first and third no outs and the heart of the order coming up. If Semien doubles, then once again you have the perfect guy coming up to hit behind him. It doesn't work the other way around because Semien is a pull hitter.
  14. What does that have to with batting leadoff?
  15. He is a much better fit batting leadoff with Anderson 2nd.
  16. Sounds like a seafood dish, Ill have the Piscotty Andrus el dente and a coke zero plz.
  17. With Jose Ramirez Being a FA next year being able to get out of that contract would be good. Moot point...mute is a different word meaning not being able to speak.
  18. Have you guys heard that Lance Lynne was nominated for a Cy Young? I love how he text Hahn message board quality off season transaction suggestions.
  19. Yep, 2001 saw a slew of injuries including the Big hurt going down earlier, and the shitty twins got real good. The following sox teams were mostly good too, just couldn't win that one big series against the twins to take the division until 05. Then the tigers got good to join the twins. Interesting that the sox have never been a wild card team (except for whatever that 2020 covid thing was).
  20. I was not debating the part on how much Ray should or should not be paid nor how much should or should not be invested in the role. Those are all relevant topics to be discussed though. I'm solely suggesting That in Ray's Specific case he should not be lumped into with all those pitchers that have been mediocre then have had an outstanding year and regress to the means. Yes they often cited small changes they made that initially work. I'm saying his changes have significant long lasting impact much like Gio's. Do we think Gio is going to revert back to numbers like he had with a long arm swing? Ray's specific mechanical changes correlate so well with why he is having success that I think they will continue as long as he stays healthy. Both he and Gio are different pitchers than they were. The other guys are just guys that found lightning in a bottle for a year. Dick, I think your assessment is essentially correct in most cases, but not this specific one.
  21. I'm not sure Ray's past years are all that relevant here. He made a series of Mechanically changes that allowed him to throw more strikes and be far more deceptive. He is very much a different pitcher than he had previously been much in the same way Giolitto has been since shortening his arm swing. so looking at last year as just a career year outlier for Ray is probably foolish.
  22. But they can't shift the first baseman and if the they do shift 2b they prolly won't have anyone who could cover 2b and a grounder to 3b, or SS. They would also open the 5/6 hole now to Tim. This will make them more reluctant to throw Tim off-speed pitches as he would be more apt to roll over on and find that 5/6 hole.
