Agreed, its not as if they are anywhere near competing in 2024 so why waste a year of a good manager. My only concern is the way that Pedro seems to handle the younger players, not one of the young players who has joined the MLB team this season has been any good, and don't look like they are learning anything, in fact if anything they are getting worse. Added to that they way they are often brought up and sent down many times, and seem to be the only ones he 'holds accountable'.

“Pedro came into a tough situation with the disappointment of 2022" said Getz. Yep he came into a tough situation and made it worse, if 2022 was a 'disappointment' then what was the sh*tshow of 2023?
-
“These last couple of weeks of the season, I need to spend more time with Pedro, the coaching staff and the players just to learn more about areas that we need to get better,” Getz said. Learn more about areas we need to get better, that would be pitching, hitting fielding, trading, drafting, player development, have I missed anything?

It is difficult to tell if they are doing this on purpose as they have been doing this all season.

This thread will still be running this time next year!

When will the first win of the Getz era happen? Surely against the Royals!
-
Good to see the Getz era starting as it means to carry on.

With the statements in JR's interview I think it is fair to say that any GM would struggle let alone an inexperienced over promoted one. Getz may be better than Hahn or he may be worse, but until JR is no longer owner whoever is trying to GM will have one or even both hands tied behind his back.

I did nearly include Moncada in the list as he seems good at the moment, but it very much depends if his back problems are actually sorted or just temporarily less of an issue. His contract aside, having a fit and healthy Moncada next season playing like this will be very useful. Eloy's fitness will always be an issue but he has been better this season.

But at least he doesn't look completely lost like he did when called up before.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers

So a win win situation! -
Amidst all the doom and gloom of a disaster season and the depressing search for a new GM I just thought I would look for any positives I could find. Luis Robert- not much really needs saying here, he is the best player on the team, can he still improve? Lenyn Sosa- are we finally seeing what he could do at MLB level? Or is he just having a good spell when the pressure is off at the end of the season? Apart from that I can't really see many positives about the MLB team, but any positives anyone has from the minors or any I have missed?

Funny I don't foresee any other club falling overthemselves to apoint him GM.

A team sale in the next 24 hours is what is needed.

Whilst Hahn and Williams getting fired is good news, the fact is that if JR is the man picking their replacements then I will hold fire on any optimism for improvement.
-
That is even more worrying, if that was his best!

To be fair no one on here was saying keep Lynn, some even wanted him Dfa'd, the fact that he is pitching better since leaving, like Diekman, like Graveman and Middleton (small sample I know) suggests that the improvement may be due to leaving the loser culture of the White Sox, or getting coached properly. The poor form of Giolito in 4 games since leaving might suggest otherwise, but it seems more than just a coincidence that so many are pitching better since leaving.

Keynan Middleton rips White Sox 'no rules' culture
Chimpton replied to maxjusttyped's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Only if they have a stronger manager and the players who are causing the present poor culture are willing to change or are no longer at the club. -
Even if Hahn has a plan it is bound to be a cheap one and not very good. But eventually one of these reclamation projects will come good and Hahn will think everything was worth it.

Trading away Burger was a difficult to understand decision except that they aren't going to bin Moncada, and unless they swallow a big chunk of salary no one would take him, so that is 3B blocked, they are not getting rid of Eloy so that is DH blocked and they are clearly investing in Vaughn as a 'franchise player' with all the positive stories about him, so that is 1B blocked. So in Hahn' mind getting a prospect for Burger made sense. But that ignores what you say about his fan appeal and HR potential. Basically Burger was a victim of the badly built squad by Hahn which is overloaded with 1B/DH types and where Moncada and Eloy got huge deals early and have failed to deliver on them, there is still some hope that an injury free Eloy could deliver but I can't see Moncada suddenly improving.

I agree with you about racism still existing both in sport and society as a whole, but I genuinely can't see that as a big factor in this incident. But maybe that is because I am not African American and therefore have never been the victim of racism whether overt or covert. I respect your opinion, even if I cannot completely agree with it.

Sorry but TA was the instigator, he threw down his glove and put his fists up in a fighting pose just because someone pointed at him. I am not denying that racism happens in sport as in real life, but the reaction here has more to do with him getting knocked down after trying to act like the tough guy. 'Team loyalty' should not be blind, if one of my players is being an idiot I will call that no matter what his ethnicity. As for your point about Ali (before my time) undoubtedly some of that was racism but also some of it was because of the arrogant bragging persona that he adopted before fights. I resent the implication that anyone who doesn't support TA in this is automatically a racist.
