  1. Agreed, that certainly applies to players the White Sox have drafted themselves as well, like Vaughn. If they had developed a few more of their own draft picks then we wouldn't be desperately trying to get everyone else's prospects. I struggle to think of the last position player who the Sox drafted themselves who has developed into a good MLB player (with the Sox).
  2. Surely part of the reason the White Sox have no depth is that they have adopted the quantity over quality approach and none of the quantity prospects they have gambled on have reached MLB level. There is a difference between depth of talent and just depth of bodies filling out the farm but never really contributing to the MLB team. Let's face it they tried over 60 players this season so filling the roster was not a problem but finding quality was.
  3. I would always choose getting quality over quantity. Trying to get quantity to get a quicker fix just ends up where we are now with a roster of mostly AAAA players. Adding quality players that you can build a roster around is a slower rebuild but offers a hope of more than loads of AAAA prospects who are a gamble and never quite make it.
  4. By that logic you would never trade for any prospect as there is always a risk in any player development from minors to MLB. Any trade for a prospect is a risk, sadly with Eloy and Moncada the White Sox have been stung twice with prospects who really should have been can't miss or at least much better than they ended up being.
  5. They will no doubt sign free agents, just not the ones fans want, no doubt they will dumpster dive again for reclamation projects.
  6. He did last this season as a starter which is more than many thought he would do, even though his workload was managed second half he wasn't completely shut down. So I think most teams would take him as a starter but the big issue is how highly do they rate him in terms of what they are willing to give up. Let alone whether we think Getz is capable of getting a decent return judged on his previous deals.
  7. Do we think Robert's decline is terminal like the way TA's batting dropped off a cliff or is there are real prospect that he can bounce back to his 2023 levels? If there is any hope of him bouncing back then trading him this offseason with his value at an all time low would be foolish, and waiting till mid season 2025 to trade him would be sensible. On the other hand if the decline is a terminal one then getting any value for him this offseason would be sensible.
  8. Yes, Semien was one that left the Sox and went on to have a good MLB career. I think you are right about Vaughn, and I think that is a great condemnation of how the organisation have attempted to develop him. He was supposedly a sure fire hitter at MLB level with an iffy glove and somehow he has turned into a poor hitter and a poor fielder.
  9. Not sure what that has to do with my comment, but I was merely pointing out that few of the Sox busts or players traded out have exactly gone on to reach any great heights at their subsequent teams so keeping them hoping that they will suddenly improve seems like a forlorn hope.
  10. How many of the Sox position players who have gone elsewhere have clicked? Very few if any.
  11. I'm looking forward to them not taking the option on Moncada and that sorry saga finally coming to an end. However, knowing this organisation they will then resign Eloy as a free agent!
  12. A season too late for asking for patience. If he had said that before this season maybe he would have a bit more sympathy, although with 121 losses I doubt it. Instead we had the 'quick turnaround' nonsense whilst acquiring any cheap past it FAs he could find and amassing a variety of AAAA prospects in trades for any assett the team had. The only reason Crochet and Robert didn't get traded was because no one was interested at the price Getz wanted, and considering how bad his other trades were it really does make you wonder what other teams were offering if anything.
  13. Just like with politicians these quotes are meaningless hot air, all he is interested in is the dollar bottom line.
  14. But knowing the current development in this organisation those 2 top positional prospects will turn out to be busts.
  15. Relegation and promotion is an essential part of football, but owners are trying to do away with it because they don't want to lose their place at the top table. That was what motivated the European Super League idea. And you are right a hard core of fans will remain loyal no matter how bad the team gets. In fact it is almost seen as a badge of honour that you were there in the bad times when the good times hopefully return. Fans may moan and criticise their team and even boo sometimes, but that is only because they care so much. Those that don't care just switch off their support or move it to another team or sport.
  16. I think part of the problem is that a sporting team isn't really a 'brand', I know I am looking at it from a British point of view but sporting teams aren't seen as a brand here. More and more owners are seeing it as a brand and supporters are merely 'customers' and all that matters is the money the 'brand' can generate. The idea that a team or 'franchise' can up sticks and move to another city is totally alien to us, but gradually owners who are only interested in money are trying to break that geographical identity, trying to play games around the world to generate more revenue, in Spain they have certain football games start late into the night to suit the Asian TV audience. But part of what makes football 'soccer' amazing to watch at times is the passion of the fans, and that is lost if the audience is just there to watch a 'product' like a show or a concert. What these owners don't realise is that by treating sports teams as a brand they will eventually destroy the fanbase that should be the lifeblood of any team. How can any 'franchise' moving to a new city keep its old fanbase or create a new loyal fanbase? If the team is successful people will watch but once they start to lose the audience will disappear, and once that starts to happen the owners will be looking for a new city to move to. Even now the younger generation often support a player not a team and their loyalty will move with that player, anything that expands this will be detrimental to sports teams in the long run. Maybe I am old fashioned or it is just a British cultural thing but a sports team is not the same as a brand and never will be. Anyway rant over!
  17. That has been the problem for this team for many years even when Getz was Director of Player Development, especially when it comes to the development of position players.
  18. I think when the team breaks the record for most losses in a season then the win-loss record 'does count'.
  19. Especially when none of those players can actually hit above .245
  20. That implies that this disaster was intentional rather than just bad recruitment, bad play , no leadership etc.
  21. Exactly the difference between chartering an Airbus and a Boeing will be less than the wages offered to FAs in the dumpster that the Sox have been signing recently.
  22. But part of the problem is that most of the players are at best AAAA level because the club is being run like a AAA club, the plane business is just one example of this. Players talk to other players, do you really think any big name free agents would want to join the current Mickey Mouse organisation even if they were prepared to pay them what other clubs do.
