That is nice that Garland pitched well. That was a positive, right?
-
Could Olivo lead off? that is intriguing. Lee's too slow, but I liked your lineup except for Lee

Allegedly he and Daubach need to play regularly to hit, so we probably won't be getting much production from those guys during their rare starts. I noticed in Teddy's question and answer in the Trib, he thinks JM was wrong in not starting Rios at the beginning of the season and giving Aaron some minor league time to get his swing down. How is Aaron doing in the minors, is he starting to hit yet??

This may be too boring a topic to respond to, but the other day I was in the car traveling and heard an hour long storytelling session of Ron Santo (hey, he played for our Sox, too) and Mike Shannon on some St. Louis station. It was so cool to hear these guys talk about their first at bats, their first home runs. They suggested in the good ol days players cared a lot more. Santo talked about going out with Don Drysdale in Chicago the night before Drysdale was to pitch. Santo told a drunk Drysdale at 4 a.m. he had to take him back to the hotel. When he let him out, a drunk Drysdale told Santo, "Tomorrow when I step between the white lines I have no friends." Santo said: "Just the way I like it." A hungover Drysdale pitched 9 innings the next day with no set up men and no closers involved. No point to this story except ... does anybody else like hearing old time ballplayers tell stories about baseball? It was a classic hour. I was mesmerized to the radio. I would love to hear an hour with a.) Dick Allen. b.) Bill Melton. c) Chet Lemon. d.) gary Peters. e.) Pudge Fisk. f.) Bob Lemon. g.) Ozzie Guillen. f.) Pete Ward. g.) Richie Zisk. f.) Harold Baines. g.) Greg Luzinski. i.) Tom Seaver. j.) Ross Baumgarten. I am out.

I hate to say this, but isn't Jim a sad story? He once was a top prospect and most Sox fans like me loved him. What's his career record going to wind up? It's going to suck. Amazing how modern pitchers can't last.

You tell me why you are not more mad at the three crap at bats in the ninth?? What piss poor at bats by some of our best players. We simply can't hit the ball and still have bad chemistry. Let's face it we all thought Koch, Colon and Daubach would take care of the chemistry issues and we still have no life. I don't know what the solution is. There's only one Lou Piniella in America and he don't work for us. What the flip should we do???? We have no life.

At least we're trying things. Too bad he went 0-fer. It'd be nice for some immediate success, though Crede got off to a nice start this year and has been wallowing ever since. We suck.
-
I agree with witesoxfan. To blame one guy is ridiculous. We were playing Detroit for Gosh-sakes. We SUCK as a team. To get four hits off Detroit at home is pathetic. This upcoming road trip is going to bury us by the All Star break. We are baseball's biggest disappointment by far and that ain't Crede's fault.
-
Four hits total against the alleged worst team in baseball at our ballpark... miserable at bats from key players in our lineup in the ninth ... we've already fired our hitting coach and brought in a new one ... it's a hopeless cause. We suck. It's obvious we're not going to fire our skipper cause of monetary reasons and even if we did we wouldn't awaken. Bringing in Walker hasn't helped our bats a bit. Our only hope is to not fall too far behind theTwinks in case we ever fricking wake up.

The Royals are going to try to rob KW. If we give up too much for Beltran that would be horrible. Especially if we can't sign him. He is the best player on the Royals besides Sweeney, but the Royals will be going for blood, trying to get 4-5 of our young guys.

I wish mark cuban would buy the team and keep it in chicago. Or somebody rich from the great city of Chicago who has a clue.
-
Buy a round on me and just send me the bill in KC. Kidding. Someday I'll buy a round, tho.
-
I'm glad we won, also. Colon is looking so good. But we still aren't stinging the ball. Eight hits ain't too spiffy. It wouldn't be so bad if we had a stellar defense. But we are gonna have to start hitting or we're doomed. Nice win, though. We'll take it!
-
Once again, a guy leaves the sox and excels. It can't just be coincidence. We are a jinxed organization with no ability to develop players or put them in position to succeed.
-
Man, that was a great column by Phil. He ought to be our fricking GM. The Sox need to do what he says. I can't argue with anything he said.
-
I want to know why we lost three vs. Minn after sweeping the O's. I thought Game Three of the O's series was great. Colon beaned that guy and got tossed showing loyalty to Maggs who got plunked for slamming the game-winning hit. Frank had a big walk when it counted late and we looked like we were clicking. I guess it's simple. We won because we were playing the O's and that series meant nothing.
-
It does suck that we keep firing hitting and pitching coaches instead of the real problem, KW. But this move had to be made. Our hitting has sucked.
-
This is a good move ... I hope. Greg Walker had a sweet swing as I recall. Did we go 0-3 after we hired him or is this a recent move? I was in Vegas last week and though I won money on the Sox (their win over Baltimore in Game Three of the series) won me a five -team parlay and I was psyched!
-
It's definitely time to give Backman a try. Managers can make a difference. Look at Tony Pena here in KC. The players love him and are hustling their butts off. I say we go with Backman (who I admittedly know nothing about) and Greg Walker as hitting coach. Walker was a good hitter, always hit the ball hard, before he got hurt.

I watched the end of that game and Lowe pitched today like he really cared if that makes any sense. He was possessed out there. I tip my cap to Lowe and wish we still had him on the Sox. I thought Daubauch and Koch were gonna be clubhouse leaders. What happened to that? We still have no fire.
-
So many players are sucking at the same time. If Mark B keeps losing like this, he's going to be like Ritchie, thinking he'll lose 20.
-
We've got to make some coaching changes or else we're going to go thru a fire sale in July. We can't be this bad. Baseball experts said we'd be a powerhouse team. We suck
-
I don't count cause I live in KC and will attend zip unfortunately. But you have to agree with my attendance comment, correcto? I would go to 20 games if I could. I remember going to about 18 games one year in high school to watch one of the worst teams in Sox and baseball history, still had fun. You can't beat fun at the ol ballpark as Harry or Jack B. used to say, one of the two.
-
Do you all think the Sox problem is we do a piss poor job of player development once the player hits the bigs? How else do you explain the flameouts of many of our players and pitchers? As much as I detest KW and I want him fired of course ... do you think our skipper and our last skipper and virtually all of our big league coaches do a piss poor job of player development?? I mean if Crede washes out, that is the last straw.
-
I wish him well also.
