Man the Cubs bashed Crochet around. Sox continue to be the only team in sports that gets a new manager and no immediate boost for a week or so. Trailing 7-0 is not a good formula to win. Beni is starting to resemble a big leaguer again. Maybe he'll wind up being a leader next year and help the Sox improve to about 55-60 wins.

You think Jerry wanted to make the move now just to get some spark to sweep the Cubs? These games should be competitive. The Cubs are no good. They are not near Sox bad of course but the Cubs are a boring lousy team. We might sweep them with the boost a new skipper gives a bad team for about a week.

Stone not sure he will be back in 25, season "wearing on him"
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Stone stopped tweeting didn't he this year? Sign of not giving a bleep. I mean what's there to say? Anything he writes on X is a lie if it's at all positive. And it takes a special talent to be negative all the time like me and most of you. -

Is Beckham's voice less annoying? Seems like a nice guy and smart analyst last year when I listened/watched. Stone simply can't continue watching such bad baseball. He has to quit and do something productive. Life is too short. -
No power but he is 8-for-16 as an Oriole. I wonder if in the age of analytics that's considered lousy since he's he's not putting it over the fence. .500 may mean nothing to the new age stat people if it's not a powerful .500.

The Sox are not going to win ever by spending money. We all know they won't do it. However they probably can spend as much as they did this season which apparently was top half of baseball. They'll have to figure a way to contend like some other cheapskate teams in our division. Just figure it out. Just do it. Pedro getting axed is one big yawn BTW. Yes he's horrific but he's just 1/10 of the problem. Top to bottom the organization is the worst 3 probably in all of sports. Definitely the worst in MLB. But yes Pedro is a clown obviously.
-
He is a failure at the MLB level. Sad.

Pet peeve: Win probability during games. Sox had 70.6 percent win probability in the second inning. Cmon. That's ridiculous. If that was the Sox win probability, then get rid of that stupid stat. Anybody with a brain or AI network knows our win probability was still about 20 percent at that point of the game. Also ... such bad hitting again today. Vargas? Seems pretty lousy to me.

That they are highly regarded and young.

Montgomery is 22. Bring him up. Quero is 21. Bring him up. What does it matter if they hit .400 or .100. They allegedly are top prospects.

Schriffen says he was aiming at “Sportscasters”
greg775 replied to Chick Mercedes's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Obviously the players think Pedro is a buffoon and of course he lost the clubhouse. The question is what difference does that make? Probably none. These players would be just as bad even if they loved and respected Pedro. Sox need a lot of changes of course. One is to start hiring guys like Dusty Baker, lifers who know what is up. Shoulda hired Dusty 15 years ago. Or some other proven name guy. -
The Royals let Witt develop and do his thing in the majors while the team was losing 100 games. Sox prospects seem to come up and hit .100 or worse til they mercifully are sent back down. No matter if they are high expectation guys or low. With this organization as bad as it is, just bring up the studs when they are 20 or 21 not 23 or 24. Not that difficult.
-
I think most of the diehards on the board don't want to start the clock of any top prospects. They are convinced the team hen will be gawd-awful two more seasons then might improve a bit in 2027.
-
I watched the game highlights. Good pitching tonight. Seven hits were enuf. ... The standup southside call was dumb but whatever. The guy is enthusiastic that's for sure.

So we're at 21. Is that the worst in AL history or a tie. How many do Sox have to lose to have longest losing streak in history. Hard to believe the Sox have drawn as well as they have this year. Guess the over 50s do still need a baseball fix (I read somewhere the young audience is gone; it's only 50 and up who will watch baseball).

Gamethread: 8/5 - I Have A Bad Feeling About This One

Would be interesting to hear a DeBong or Pham, a veteran, talk to friends about the Sox clubhouse. I bet you there's a lot of grousing about Grifol being a clown. Probably a lot of grousing about Getz as well about the talent on the team. Sox don't have one player you would pay to see now that Crochet doesn't even go 5 innings. I don't even want to hear about how Robert is a special talent. All he does is hover around .200 to .210. He can't hit. -

The media is blowing it not delving into this streak more. ... Like how with the law of averages can this possibly happen? Like with ... how does one MLB have such less talent than virtually every other team? ... Like does this go further than one team one city? Should baseball intervene and comment on this losing streak? It's basically unprecedented and should be addressed by the top officials in baseball like the commish. How could this happen? How did this happen? Are you embarrassed to be leader of a league that would have a team this rotten? It should be major news every day and is not. -

Sox got four hits. My gawd. Not to be an Oz lover, but let's play this game. I say if Oz was skipper we wouldn't have lost 21 in a row but would have five wins in this span. If LaRussa were manager, I'll give him six wins. Yes even with this wholly pathetic lineup we trot out there and this bullpen. I think the skipper who ties Bevington for worst manager in Sox history deserves a few losses. -- I feel kind of sorry for Pedro in seeing the highlights and his face after the final out. Sad stuff. ... Also, what's wrong with Robert? Why can't he hit worth a squat? Feel sorta sorry for him too. He hasn't gotten hurt in a while and yet reeks. -

How did Ky Bush look? Second round draft pick. I have high hopes. -
I confess that is one thing I did wonder about. But I figured that'd nullify in the year of the demise.
-
Oakland A's? It's over, baby. The A's are no good. There is no way the streak hits 21. That's my take. In fact the Sox will win this series. Could this be the start of a .500 finish? Many teams have gotten well on the Sox. Sox get well thanx to the woeful A's? We.Shall.See.
-
He seems like a nice nuff guy. Best wishes. However a caveat has to be mentioned in that he's one of the most disappointing players in Sox history. Total flop.
-
Wouldn't that be funny if one of the 2024 Sox ended up starring for somebody this postseason? Eloy or Pham or somebody?
-
I wonder if Jerry is secretly enjoying this. Putting fans through hell out of a sense of superiority. It doesn't matter to him if Sox win or lose, the dollars are busting through his wallet and falling out of his pockets. The fans on the other hand ...

By far the worst sports franchise in history. OK maybe hyperbole. But very very close. Didn't the Sixers or somebody win nine games all season back in the day? But still. Cmon, losing streaks of 14 and 20? With some of the clown hirings in modern history?
