7-28 Gamethread: Mariners at Sox (1:10pm)
greg775 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2024 Season in Review
We did it! 14 in a row again?? This is beyond hilarious. Do we have any fans left aside from maybe 30 diehards on here?? This is insane. The Sox put together arguably the worst team in modern baseball history, at least since the 60s which is 60 years!! Can you imagine? Man our hitters are in a funk. And our pitching is on a stretch of mediocrity to poor. C-minus of late. -

Again, it's not easy to get swept at home by a team as mediocre as Seattle. My gosh we stink. And today Crochet didn't resemble Sandy Koufax. Three innings of nothin. Maybe we'll rally and win finally. Law of averages. -

Bad game. I didn't watch it but Fedde's line was bad at least. Don't know if he pitched well or not but very mediocre statline. Robert 4 Ks is a big LOL. Four strikeouts and a .214 batting average? Cmon. You can't blame any GM for taking a hard pass on both Robert and Eloy. At some point Robert has to show some consistent hitting. Baldwin got 3 hits. So 13 in a row but tomorrow is the likely win via Crochet unless he only goes 3 innings or something. -

Should be interesting to see if Getz can get 2-3 productive future stars for Fedde. Or if it's a yawner trade of guys who wind up clones of Harry Chappas. -

So we're winning. May not go to 13 in a row. Generally in baseball as u know, a team gets 10 runs one night and it's often zero the next. Sox looking good after 2. -
I've said all along the pitching staff is close cept for the need to either rely on our system and throw guys in there to improve the bullpen or buy 2 in the free agent market to go with the starters u suggested. That's half a completed rebuild, then just work on the lineup. Now I'm all for trading Pham, Lopez, DeJong maybe even Fedde ( if we keep Crochet) if we can get some bodies for them but I'd not trade our few stars. Again, nobody will put out a plan but u did with names so I thank u. It's not healthy to be this bad last year, this year and say, 3-4 more years. That's silly.

I'm starting to doubt Robert. His BA hasn't been much over .230 all season. His stats blow chunks. He passes the eye test but more as a graceful center fielder than as a hitter where he kind of stinks frankly. I wouldn't give up much for him if I were another team's GM, that's for sure. He kind of blows.
-
At least that's a plan. I've been asking Sox fans who approve of tanking to at least outline a plan for the future. You, who aren't the biggest tank fan ever, have outlined a frickin' plan. Thank you. It seems reasonable to me.

Remember when certain teams beat the Sox like the A's when we went on a west coast trip? Now everybody (except Tampa Bay) it seems boatraces the Sox. This season is like a Stephen King horror story. ... I mean if Jerry had any sense of fairness he'd personally come down to the stands in the 8th inning (when stadium is empty cept for diehards) and hand out 100 dollar bills or tickets to future games or coupons for corned beef or pizza!! SOMETHING!!! This is criminal to take the fans' money IMO. This isn't even good minor league team. Does the Sox front office think any fan really wants to be there?? They either are getting a MLB fix once or twice a summer or want the food! Help us Jerry. Pay us some stipend.
-
He's definitely earned a spot as a backup outfielder on a contender even tho he's still under .270.
-
Wouldn't it be neat if we lost something like 25-0?
-
Holy bleep. Are we really down 10-0?? Our squad must be getting booed. Pedro needs to simply resign. Work out a deal to get paid a good settlement. My gosh. Is this 12 in a row?? Paper bag time.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
If the Sox make trades, would a few of you be so kind to first discuss the trade(s) in general terms for those of us who don't follow the minor leagues? Tell us where a guy was taken in the draft, what the consensus is on the guy's future in the bigs and also what u think of his ability. Please please please do this for us non trade-niks. Thanx in advance, greg. -
I guess the postgame show was good today with all 3 ripping the Sox. Just the players though, they didn't rip JR or the skipper.

Did the Sox really get swept in another 4 game series? It's tough to lose 11 in a row at this stage of the season. I mean, cmon you got to be bad to not get hot on a given night out of 11. And to top it off we had a 14-gamer in May? This is so laughable. Sox have ruined the spring and summer for a lot of us former baseball fans. I hate the winter and so look forward to spring. No longer in terms of baseball. You think I'm looking forward to start of 2025 season? Ha. Sox just cannot hit on the road. Not great at home but on the road? Wowsie, Five hits?? My gawd. Sox trying to put baseballs in play with wiffle ball bats. 11 in a row. And nothing but gloom on the immediate horizon, all of 2025 to go with this crud.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Quick hits ... -- Crochet being a two-inning 'opener' for a contending team is stupid IMO. Say what you want, pitching him two innings is not smart or productive. There's a lot of ballgame left after six batters. -- Shame on a contender if they move him to late relief down the stretch or in the playoffs/series. Just when he gets used to being a starter he doesn't need that stress of late innings late in a season in which his injuries are limited. And I'm saying this as a guy who despises the baby-ing of pitchers in the sabes era. Moral of story: Keep him in Chicago, keep him as a starter and have him be, you know, a fan favorite for a decade. Oh I forgot we can't keep stars in Chicago, too cheap. Such a big city with such a terrible front office/owner. Sell the team, JR. -

I give credit where it's due. Nice job there, Mr. Getz. It does help a lot ease the sting. -
What a pathetic loss. Four hits? Bad pitching? Our Sox are no good.
-
I thought a 10-game losing streak deserved its own thread. Heck our boys may end that streak in their next game. However it deserves a comment and question. My comment is: Even though our club really stinks overall, it has little chance on a given night, any night, on the road. Why? Well generally our bats die. We had what four hits tonight? To show how bad we are on the road, the Rangers were struggling a bit as our Sox arrived 3 games ago. Now for however long, maybe not long at all, they've been rejuvenated right after the all star break by our boys dropping three more. My question to you is ... as a fan would you like the streak to keep going? Do you want the streak to pass the 14-gamer in May? My ANSWER: Yes. The man who doesn't ever wanna take does want us to have a 15-game streak to go with the 14-gamer. Why? Just to again embarrass Jerry. He has to be moderately embarrassed to what has become of his team. Or is he still living off 2005 as well as the Bulls titles?? Peace baby.

Hard to believe Sox have lost 9 in a row considering they've had what, two other long losing streaks? It's hard to string together that many losses. Hard but not impossible cause as we know Sox are deficient in 3 areas that can cost u games on a given night: horrid lineup of hitters; horrid bullpen and bad defense. I thought Sheets in RF got a late jump on that key hit out there. Also the mixup on the steal of second and ultimate steal of home. Another loss conducive to keeping a losing streak alive cause Crochet pitched. They beat him so they could win another tomorrow and make it 10 in a row as our Sox again make teams healthy. Rangers have a blah record. A sweep of Sox in theory could rejuvenate them like we've done other teams.
-
I hear you. That's why I want the commish to reprimand the Sox or contract the Sox. If you are in it, you are in it to win it. Especially in this pathetic division which the Sox refuse to contend.
-
I think the people who think like us are not crazy. We don't want stupid trades that 'may' pay off 3-5 years from now. I think any reasonable person would see the Sox have a pretty good rotation already built for the future. Since the Sox can't build an effective bullpen, we could try some of the lesser names in our system out of the pen. And maybe Jerry would agree to spend a little cash trying once again to find 2 decent bullpen pieces. But Thorpe and Crochet are pretty amazing and I won't go thru the other names. Sox have part of the rebuild complete!! The pitching staff (if Jerry agrees to spend a few bucks on the pen).

Moncada and Clevinger "returned from rehab assignments"
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Moncada is not very durable. Makes a good buck though.
