Illinois High School Football Thread

Some of those downstate teams scare me. Hopefully Rice has a big crowd and the players roll over Rockford and get some momentum for a long run. Hope the kids want it. That can be key after a long season. I haven't been able to watch as many games this year but I sure was impressed and convinced after watching those early games. Coach Q must be a genius. I wonder if he's happy on the south side and will stick around. As a six seed the kids should have a chip on their shoulder. Only one loss and nobody can beat the team the Crusaders lost to. -

Hopefully we win big and get back on track. The St. Iggy score scares me. Rice hadn't had a 'letdown' type game all season. Even the one loss was close where we messed up some chances. Congrats to the kids. Best team in Rice history (through regular season). Never has Rice had so many college recruits and game breakers. Hope the QB is healthy, the lines are healthy and the RBs and receivers and D backs are ready. -

How did we only beat St. Iggy by eight? Is St. Iggy good? Wat you think of the playoff opener and why were we just a six seed? That's absurd. Congrats on your son getting the pic. -

I guess we could lose. Rita would be a bad loss after clobbering them earlier. You mention some name schools but Rice is special this year. I will risk hyperbole and say if we don't win it all this year we never will. It's that good a Rice team. -
The Worst Owner in Sports? The case for Jerry Reinsdorf
greg775 replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good article. In this day and age especially where college and pro football teams are firing guys before the halfway part of seasons for gosh sake, Jerry deserves all the scorn and more that he gets. He owns the team so he can't get fired but if ever a guy deserved to be fired it's Jerry for a zillion reasons. Taking the Bulls out of the equation what he's done to the Sox after the momentum of 2005 is downright sad. One title is fine but in this day and age one glorious moment is not near enough especially when he's in charge of this 100 loss machine. -
Sadly the Sox have 90 percent lost greg. I have absolutely no interest in our club and that's not because of a fan deficiency in me. I've worshiped this team in a non religious sense from the time I was a mere Little Leaguer to now. My teachers told me if one person feels one way, trust there are others. Jerry should be ashamed there have to be thousands of former die hards now not caring one bit if we improve a pitching staff in which I cannot name more than one pitcher. You all soon in all likelihood won't have to put up with any greg posts anymore if the Sox completely finish off my Sox lack of interest. So sad. Thanks Jerry. Year after year of trash baseball does this to a diehard.

Holy bleep we are good this year. Folks this is the best team in BR history. I don't care what happens the rest of the way. Q has the best team in Rice history. Can we complete the deal? Teams that could knock us off in playoffs, the only ones: Mount Carmel, Fenwick, East St. Louis, Loyola. That's it. I have no idea which teams are in our classification. St. Laurence has a good coach, not sure of their record, but we mauled them tonight. If Rice does win it all this team will go down as legend on the south side even tho we lost to MC. -
I can't believe it's offseason already ... what does a player like Colson do now? Take 2 months off? Then start running and hitting in cage? Or do they keep working starting now? He had that home run stroke going for the Sox. Must be scary to take a lot of time off then try to reclaim the magic during spring training.

It begs the question: Which high school program is best over the last 40 years: Is it ESL, Mt. Carmel or Loyola? Those would appear to be the contenders. I love the CCL but it might be ESL. -

So is Mt Carmel in a different classification? Do we compete against them in the state playoffs? If they are a class higher we don't have to mess with them again. -

I see on twitter it looks like we at least were down in their territory trying to cut it to one score but they had a goal line stand and an interception. ... Our boys should just take care of business and regroup and hopefully we can beat 'em in the state finals. Are we in the same classification? Too bad Carmel probably could beat some college teams. Proud of our boys. I did not watch it but it wasn't 48-0 like the benet carmel game. If we play again we'd have had no chance had we won tonight. Now we'll have the revenge motive and they'll take us lightly. But they seem just too good for anybody to beat. -

Thanks. If we win it's one of the top five wins in school history I'd think. -

Can I get the marquee network online for free? I saw some poll and Brother Rice wasn't in the top 10. It had to be some screwup. Anyhow can we beat Mt. Carmel? I hope the players win and stay healthy as well. It's obvious Mt. Carmel will be a state finalist. The question is will their opponent in the finals be Bro Rice? -
Good to have the great fathom respond to one of my posts.

Quero passes the eye test, advanced metrics be darned. ... Ever notice how baseball announcers rarely obsess on metrics? Crazy how that segment dominates the thinking of a lot of fans and front office types. Give me an Ozzie any day who doesn't care about WAR and other metrics. Ozz knows a hitter when he sees one and knows a bust when he sees one.

I went with D. Anyway you slice it, over 100 losses is embarrassing. And being the dregs of the AL Central grows old.

Katz's pitching staff was sub par for the most part. He had not much to work with however especially some bullpen pieces. He'll be better off if he can land somewhere else. He must have not impressed the higher ups with his instructing players. He should go out a lion and blast what he had to work with on the talk shows.

This is the end(my friends) Sox @ Nats 2:05 pm
greg775 replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2025 Season in Review
I can't believe the season is over. Even though I did not watch one game on MLB stream, it's always sad to me when the season ends. Off topic, you wait, the Bears may make this an enjoyable offseason (Cub fans I'm sure think they'll win it all). Bears have a good coach finally and some talent to compete. -
Don't know what Beni's war is, but to me he's an average to slightly above average player with an arm so weak it's laughable. I kind of like him, though. I think paying him that much only to have him play part time would be demoralizing for team morale. I assume Beni has some leadership qualities for when we get good. Lip might know if he's a gamer or doesn't care.

31-43 is no good but you are right, it is getting there. The problem is even though you like our pitching staff, it truly stinks IMO.

60-102 is a big fat grade of F for this season. No question. Not sure what the record was since the all star game but it seems to me the last two months of the season (even though the recent 1-10 streak) would grade C- to D-plus. Maybe not, maybe I'm going by the eye test. Seeing Colson's monster home runs was pretty impressive. Man if they wouldn't have "rushed" him ... wow there would have been so little to crow about.
-
If not contraction, if it's too harsh, I wish the commish would at least admonish the teams that consistently lose 100 games. Unacceptable. That means our team really is on another level, like just a tad about minor league baseball.
-
And yet the Bananas packed the park twice. Sox had what, one sellout? Book more Banana ballgames, Sox!

It's funny how many teams would have had gawd-awful seasons (so much so they might have to fire the manager) had they not beat up on the Sox again. Once again, KC stayed in the WC race solely cause of beating up on the Sox. Cleveland owes much to the Sox for righting the ship. Even the Yankees got six automatic wins recently vs. the Sox. The timing of series vs. the Sox is important to a lot of teams who need those automatic victories to stay in the race. Pity Minnesota. Usually the Twins beat up on the Sox so badly it keeps them in contention, but not this year.
-
Nobody could complain if the Sox were contracted. Not trying to win would be the accusation that caused a harsh penalty of contraction. But no admonishment to Jerry from the commish office. All quiet. Sad the Sox aren't publicly reprimanded for such ineptitude.
