6/30 - Sox @ Vegas A’s of Oakland: 840CT
The Kids Can Play replied to ChiSox59's topic in 2023 Season in Review
Burger out in first game. I know Jake is struggling, but if he was ever going to get hot again, there could be no better team to do it against than the 30th ranked ERA team at 6.08. -
Actually my comparison was not off and was a good one, in the sense the NCAA small schools can win some games as you pointed out, but they are never going to win the NCAA championship, just like the Sox will not win the World Series this year. Btw, I never said going back to my original post that mid major losses were automatic blowouts. I don't give a crap if a team gets blown out or loses by 2...it's a loss. So please don't put words in my mouth. Yes there have been a few exceptions of NCAA schools that at one point were so called mid majors that did end up going far. However that was only after they eventually recruited a top 5-10 national recruiting class. For example, like when Las Vegas, U Mass, or Gonzaga went far, was only because they actually recruited a national top 5 class. When that happens it doesn't count as a so called mid major, because the fact is they actually have a better recruiting class in those years than many of the top Blue Blood schools. I'm was referring to the mid majors that don't have players beyond a 2 star recruit. My point was a NCAA school with 2 star recruits is never going to beat the schools with the 4 and 5 star recruits. This is exactly where the Sox are at. The Sox do not have the talent of TB, Bal, Hou, Atl, Ariz to name a few. Hence why the Sox won't win the World Series. If the Sox could realistically win the WS. then why in the hell are they +15,000 to win the WS by all sportsbooks? You obviously never read the original comments and are taking the entire post out of perspective, based on what my analogy was.

it sucks, but the White Sox gods above will ok us to root for the Cubs for this series. I am definitely on board as a huge Baltimore fan this weekend! ☺️ -
The White Sox front office have without a doubt, put one of the worst coaching and developmental training staffs together in their farm system. They are clearly one of the worst in all MLB farm systems. In the Barons game last night, 25 year old Yoelqui Cespedes went 0-4 and lowered his slash numbers to the lowest they been since being signed by the Sox. He is currently at .190/.311/.325/.630. He started his career in high A Winston-Salem in 2021 and made it up to AA Birmingham. His numbers were never that great and occasionally showed signs of greatness, but they were never this horrible either. He still cant get out of AA to Charlotte. It's sad and unfortunate because I recall there was a lot of excitement about his potential. The Sox obviously have a ton loser coaches at all levels that are incompetent on getting the best results and potential out of their prospects. This isn't only about Cespedes. There are tons of prospects at all four levels struggling. Of course I also realize and keep in perspective, the reason our farm system sucks, is because we are really incompetent at scouting and drafting the right players. I guess we shouldn't be shocked, hence why the Sox farm system was ranked #29 in 2002 and now 26th in 2023. WTG Rick Hahn. You really are a genius GM. No other GM on 29 other teams would still be employed 11 years later with your horrific results. You truly are a cat who has nine lives
-
I guess when AAA Charlotte is dead last in the 20 team International league in ERA with a whopping 6.25 ERA, I guess blowing an 8 run lead after 5 innings isn't that shocking.?

TA to bench. Remilliard in and batting 2 nd. No brainer.
The Kids Can Play replied to hankchifan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You are 100 percent correct. I stated this earlier, TA at 9th is actually the best spot. If TA gets on base, now you have speed on first with Benintendi coming up next. Hopefully a Remi batting 2nd and then Robert at #3 with perhaps a few men on base. We just need the rookie manager to put his big boy pants on and have the guts to make that move. -

I'm sorry to be the contrarian here, but the Sox bats better stay alive like the last two games and not go to sleep, like when their bats often go dormant. I know the A's are the worst team in baseball. However if you take the A's for granted, they can beat you. Go check back in early June when the A's went to the Brewers and swept them. They followed that up the next series at home and shocked the Rays by taking the first two games and splitting the series 2-2. I'm just saying, if the Sox bats go soft like they have shown us they are very capable of, it might not be pretty. On the positive side, if the Sox are going to prove they want to win the division, then they need to sweep the A's. I realize we probably have two bullpen starts. However the A's are the worst pitching staff with the 30th ERA of 6.08. There is no excuse why the Sox can't and shouldn't put up big run totals in each game and sweep them. Additionally the Twins have a tough three game series with the Orioles at Baltimore and the Guardians play the Cubs at Wrigley. The Cubs have their two best pitchers going in game 1 and 2 with Steele and Stroman who are having all-star seasons. -
6/29 - Sox @ Halos (3:07CT): Lynn vs. Sandoval

I want that too. I truly believe the next owner will be that bold owner who buys the Sox after Jerry is gone. The next owner or conglomerate of owners will be wealthy enough to at least make a substantial offer, if such a superstar like Ohtani is around in the future. -
You're missing my point that goes back to the original comments in the original post. I realize singe elimination is different with the NCAA compared to baseball. I was talking about the overall big picture of winning it all. My analogy was the mid majors are never going to win the NCAA title, just like the Sox in 2023 are not going to win the World Series. Hence why the odds are +15,000. My other point that I was stressing in the original post was the Sox FO needs to keep things in a realistic perspective and not pass up key trade deadline moves, thinking they we can still win the division and maybe get lucky and go all the way.
-
Absolutely and I haven't ever missed one. I understand the point you are suggesting that the mid majors in the last few years have gone a bit further than normal. However as I stated accurately, they have never gotten to the championship game or won the title. That is my analogy to the Sox. Even if the Sox got past one and done, which is doubtful, there is no way they are winning the World Series. If anyone actually thinks they can win the WS, then I recommend they put a big bet down on the Sox to win the 2023 World series and take advantage of the (+15,000) sportsbook odds. Then when the Sox win the World Series they can collect $75,000.

I too like Benintendi leading off. The irony is, it would actually make more sense to have Tim batting 9th. The advantage being, 1. less pressure at 9th and 2. if Tim did get on, now we have Benintendi coming up who has the best BA and OBP on the team of the qualified hitters. Then you have Remi 2nd who is doing great and has the best BA and OBP of all Sox hitters and deserves a higher spot. Then most importantly, you now have Robert coming up #3 with maybe a few men on base. That might just be a good thing for Robert and his power and maybe less solo home runs. Then again that would be way too logical and smart for Pedro. Plus I'm sure Pedro already had this discussion with Jerry to leave TA 2nd. -

What's the shame is, as Tim struggled he could have been more humble and less arrogant during his struggles at the plate. If he would have kept his mouth shut and just told the media and fans he was trying his best and will continue to do so, then maybe we would have more time to reflect on the good years Tim gave us. -
Today is now going on 13 games and if he goes Saturday that is 15 games and if Sunday 16 games. With all due respect, this is only low A ball. Noah needs to pitch. So what if they had to change the rotation. MLB teams do it all the team. This should never be an issue in low A ball. Low A ball, or for that matter any minor level baseball is only about one thing and that is developing position players and pitchers. They should never be worrying about rotations. But then again, this is just another example in the endless amount of reasons why Rick Hahn and the entire front office have to be fired. Hence why our farm system is ranked 26th and was 29th in 2022. White Sox motto: Stupid is as Stupid does!

Sox @ Halos - 838PM (Giolito vs. Barria)
The Kids Can Play replied to ChiSox59's topic in 2023 Season in Review
Forgive me Mr. Journalism 101 master! LOL! I assume you referring to the use of the word "retarded?" Let's try it again: You know who makes those dumb decisions and if you don't like the lineup; go talk to Jerry! ? But thanks again for bringing up your lame humor and missing the humor in my replied comment to the post. -
I don't comment much in this SoxTalk section, but I do follow the four teams from Low A to AAA. What has been going on for a few years now with the pitching on the Barons and especially Charlotte rosters, is the most ugly and horrific pitching performances imaginable. Here is the Charlotte pitching stats: 20th - (dead last) ERA - 6.19 WHIP - 1.67 HR's - 1.57 per game TBF - Total batters faced - 3018 29th BA against - .274 BB's - 5.45 per 9 IP NF - # of pitches thrown 156.3 per game With pitching being the most important aspect in baseball for winning, this is by far the biggest embarrassing blunder on Rick Hahn's horrible resume. I cant wait until MLB puts out their next updated farm system rankings. We are 26th now and I'm quite sure we will be going down further. Btw, I did not post the Barons stats, but they are also last in most of the same stats in their Southern league.

I keep checking the Kannapolis website to see when Noah Schultz pitches next and he still hasn't pitched since June 16. As of yesterday that is 12 straight games not starting. Can someone please give me a more detailed answer on why Noah isn't pitching, other than the last explanation I heard here, which was sickness of some sort.
-
You're damn right they are. They might be the worst record team at 21-61 and only worse than KC at 22-59. However the A's on any given day can beat anybody. Earlier this month they won 7 in a row. Five of those wins were against the Brewers and Rays. Plus the Sox have proven going into the home park of a crappy team isn't a sure thing to win a series. I recall the Sox going to KC and losing 3 of 4 games.
-
I agree with you that he will probably not be the owner by then. However for some devastatingly bad luck, if JR is still the owner by then...then we are talking about a Titanic sports disaster like never before. Heaven forbid a more senile 93-94 yr old, being significantly more stubborn and ignorant. ?

Yes those happen, but they are very seldom. Plus there will be no cheering fans shifting to the Sox in any series other than loyal Sox fans. However for those rare Cinderella teams, in the end, none of them ever get to the final championship game or win the NCAA tournament. If you just want the Sox to get to the playoffs and are ok with a one and done, then fine. However I myself and I think most other Sox fans want to win another World Series. That is what our genius Hahn promised us; in fact multiple ones. As I've pointed out several times, Sportsbooks don't give any happy Cinderella chances for the Sox with the odds to win the: AL Central +1200 AL Title +8000 World Series +15,000 That's why I will continue to say, which was my main point of the post, that not being sellers are the trade deadline and hoping for a chance to miraculously sneak into the playoffs via the pathetic Central; is fool's gold.
