Ok congrats Hahn, you got this one correct letting Abreu go and keeping Vaughn. A broken clock is always correct at least twice a day. So occasionally you can get one right. The fact still remains your resume of scouting, drafting, developing prospects, trading players, FA signings, etc., is complete horsesh*t and you need to be fired sooner than later.

I read this earlier this morning and the article was title "Each organization's best pick from the 2018 Draft." Why in the hell would they be listing Madrigal for the White Sox? He isn't with us anymore. I don't care what round they had to go back to, but it should have been the best pick from 2018 for each club still with the club. MLB network has some pretty stupid writers.
-
I've questioned the draft picks of Hahn several times in here and documented the insanely stupid picks of Sheets in 2017 #49, when you had Abreu, Madrigal in 2018 when they could have taken 2B India who went #5 to the Reds and starts for them. Then again in 2018 taking Vaughn at #3 and still had Abreu and Sheets. Yes you are 100 percent correct...Hahn has sucked at scouting and drafting prospects among all his other GM deficiencies.

Yeah and our pitching coach would have never gotten the true potential out of Dunning like Texas will. ?

I didn't like the trade then and I hate the trade even more now. Your theory of trading youth for a veteran in a contention window is partly correct, but Lynn was going downhill and he wasn't the veteran we needed. Yes he had a decent run in St Louis. However starting in 2018-2020 with three different teams, he had a 4.07 ERA. He was 34 at the time of the trade and was a heavy guy then. I didn't think he would age well. Dunning on the other hand, had the kind of pitches that could make him a real solid starting pitcher with the right coaching. You are also forgetting Hahn traded away Adam Eaton in 2016 at the start of the rebuild to get Giolito, Lopez and Dunning. There were suppose to be the three starters heading into the WS championships Hahn promised in 2016. Dunning was not a home grown prospect. Dunning like Gio and Lopez were ready to contribute in a few years and Hahn should have kept Dunning and given away some other lower end pitching prospects. Dunning was too much. Save your debate and counter stats to come back at me, because we are going to agree to disagree. You couldn't change my mind on this in a million years, no mater how many stats or theories you offer. Btw, the poster asked the question, "does anyone miss Dunning" and my answer is still the same. Again in the overall final resume and "Ben Franklin" for Rick Hahn on his rebuild debacle....this trade will be on the negative "con" side. -
I sincerely pray they can trade him at this deadline and dump his sorry BIG ass! If he keeps pitching like this though, the prospects will be in Low or High A. It would have to be a playoff team with some injuries with their starting rotation willing to take a shot...hoping for the proverbial "Let's Hope to Catch Lighting in a Bottle!"

If it wasn't already bad enough being 12 games under 500, the next 8 series are against teams all over .500 except for one team, which is the Tigers, the next series. The Tigers are actually only 2 games under .500 and obviously just kicked our ass taking 3 of 4 games. The next 25 games between those 8 teams will show us exactly how the MLB balanced schedule will destroy the inferior teams like the Sox, who also play in the weakest division. We don't play a crap team until the 9th series which is the Oakland A's on June 30-July 2. Warning: This could get ugly and not recommended for the faint of heart! Thanks again JR and RH for making this such a fun 2023 baseball season. -
White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Begins baseball activities Rotowire - MAY 29, 2023 Montgomery (oblique/back) has begun baseball activities at extended spring training, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Montgomery has been out all season with an oblique injury and more recently a back issue. It sounds like it will still be a little while before he's ready for games, but the top prospect is eventually expected to be assigned to Double-A Birmingham.

After a stupid comment like that making yourself look clueless, that is just the type of positive leadership message the struggling players are looking to hear. Just another brilliant decision from the genius of GM Rick Hahn.

Yeah that's a tough one, but after careful thought...I do! LOL! Age W-L ERA WHIP WAR Salary Lance Lynn 36 4-6 6.55 1.51 -0.4 $18,500,000 Dane Dunning 28 4-1 2.06 1.04 1.5 $742.840 -
We are talking about a 36 year pitcher that is starting to decline quickly. Some pitchers still can be effective at 36, but those are the ones that stay in great shape as they get older. Lynn's other problem is he never really developed other solid secondary pitches and relied too much on his fastball. Now as he got older and lost velocity, as well as the accuracy to locate his FB, you see why he is getting hit so hard. The last two years of Lynn being on the Sox, he had a WHIP of 1.07 in 2021 and 1.14 in 2022. This year after today his WHIP is 1.51. Of the 70 qualified starting pitchers in MLB with at least 10 starts, Lynn is 67th. The worst part is, Lynn is the highest paid player on the Sox at 18.5 million. The Sox have a club option on him for 2024, which is either exercise the 1 million dollar team buyout or pay the man 18 million at 37 years old. Then you have to hope by the trade deadline in 2024, you can move him before he becomes an UFA in 2025. Good luck on that!

I agree it would be an absurd decision to offer Grandal a QO offer. I don't give a sh*t what prospects the Sox get back...just trade the loser Grandal and get something. If we are going to be sellers, I would rather take my chances with trading Giolito at the deadline versus a QO offer. Decent starting pitchers are a prime commodity that most teams, even playoff teams struggle with. Giolito will bring some some decent prospects back in a trade. Likewise, Lopez is also an example as I stated previously, about teams that are not fu*ked up like the Sox in coaching and developing players. Some winning club will realize Lopez has the stuff and they will feel comfortable that they can teak his flaws and make him better.

If Burger doesn't start at 3B today, then this will once and for all acknowledge the fact...Grifol is a total idiot manager completely over his head.
-
This is Jerry just "trying to keep up with the Joneses." He thinks he can be like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Cubs to name a few. However just like he fails at running the his two sports teams...he will somehow fail at the network.

Romy successful due to new light-hearted approach

Yep, pretty much a no brainer when you compare him to those two slugs! -
Grandal, Giolito and Lopez are the key UFA's after this season. Secondary UFA's are Andrus, Alberto, Hamilton and Middleton. None of these secondary FA's matter except maybe trying to make a qualifying offer to Middleton. I think Giolito and Lopez could bring something back in value. Maybe it's not as much as we would like, but better than nothing. Remember there are other quality baseball clubs out there that are not as fu*ked up as the White sox in terms of developing and coaching talent. The Rays, Giants and Braves are a few examples of clubs that can and have turned players around. There are many others as well. All you need is one team who sees the value of a Giolito for example and wants to go for the World Series and has the deep farm system willing to give up some prospects. The worst case nightmare scenario is we are close to the Twins and we don't become sellers at the trade deadline. Then we falter miserably and not win the division. Then the Sox wasted the chance to get some young prospects back. Yeah I guess they could always make a 2024 low end qualifying offer and then get compensatory draft pick back, when the player rejects the offer.

It's great to see Romy doing so well. I think it can be attributed to the fact he he has been allowed to play almost daily. Romy has played in 10 of the last 11 games Back on 5-19, Romy's BA was .132. He is now at .224. During this 10 game stretch he has produced, 10-29, 3 2B, 3 HR, .345/.367/.759/1.125. It is really hard in baseball to be a good hitter playing part time. I sure hope he can continue to produce, because if so, just maybe we have solved the problem with second base. I'll hope for that, but not counting on it. The good news is, Romy comes dirt cheap and is only 26 years old, with several years of pre-arbitration left. -
That would be a sight to see. LoL

Too bad the Sox aren't owned by someone like Mark Cuban who would care this much and get pissed off. At this point I'm not even convinced Jerry Reinsdorf even watches every game. He lives in Arizona which is two hours difference from Chicago time, so yeah he probably falls sleep or just gets bored and turns it off.
-
I have cut costs on the White Sox. I dropped my normal 10 game package I take my family to every year. In addition, I also usually go to several other individual games with various friends outside that package. Since I am missing those games this year, Reinsdorf is not getting my several hundreds of dollars I would have spent on food, beer and parking in each of those games. However as a long time die-hard Sox fan, I am totally pissed at the owner and GM. I have personally been as loud as anyone on this forum for my constant harsh comments about my utter dislike of Reinsdorf and Hahn. Trust me, it will not stop and I will continue to bash them on SoxTalk. I agree with you that fans should stop going to games to send a message. Unfortunately not enough of them will actually do it. I have stated that point on many posts. My bottom line is, I agree with any poster on SoxTalk....if they want to scream and heavily criticize this POS dysfunctional organization, that is run by the worst owner in baseball, then go right ahead and you will never hear me blast that poster for their harsh comments.
-
Maybe if the jury was made up of a majority of Jerry's Reinsdorf's. This is why I cannot wait until this team is sold and Jerry is no longer involved. This will be the only way to win the fanbase back. Hopefully the new owner will do the right moves to build this team into a consistent top tier playoff contender.
-
That would be a huge mistake and disaster! Of course a definite asinine decision that Jerry could be counted on to make. There is nobody in this dysfunctional organization deserving of the next GM position. The next GM needs to come from a consistent winning organization where they know how to build a major league roster and successful farm system.

I know the season is possibly shot. However as I lifelong Sox fan, even in losing seasons, it was always nice to watch a special game for a special memory. I am hoping Kopech will continue tonight to control his emotions and keep bringing that nasty electric stuff. We occasionally need that in a trainwreck losing season to keep us going.
-
Your last bullet point is an absolute fact.....Bud Selig was a total POS commissioner and owner and should be banned from MLB.
