Next four months…keys to survival that won’t cost as much
The Kids Can Play replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Over the years Abreu has been extremely valuable to this franchise, but that value right now isn't worth watching him get older and see his production go down. Now while he is still valuable, it's time to get some prospects, preferably pitching. We we're already deep at first base. It's about time we put Vaughn at his natural position first base and quit making him play out of position. You must also weight the risk that he is a FA after this season and if he walks then we get nothing, as opposed to getting something right now we can bank for the future. -
I wish him well. He can't do any worse than the other pitiful starting pitchers at Charlotte.

Keuchel signs with Diamondbacks- minor league deal
The Kids Can Play replied to Vote4Pedro's topic in The Diamond Club
D'Backs trying to catch lighting in a bottle, but that bottle will shatter long before they catch any lighting! I thought our farm system sucked for pitchers, but I guess the D'Backs might be even worse. -
Sheets back down to Charlotte and Harrison DFA! Sheets is not strong defensively and obviously can't hit consistently at the ML level. Maybe he could be packaged in some future trade. We have too many first baseman. Mendick should stay. He is hitting much better and is better defensively than Harrison.

Great win! Burger, Vaughn Abreu and Robert once again are all on fire. Burger needs to keep playing and that TLR better not sit him. It's either 3B or DH for Burger. Grandal got a fluke hit or he would have gone hitless again and now at .163 BA. I would rather see Burger DH, if Moncada comes back and McGuire should catch regularly as he is a much better defensive catcher than Grandal and now hitting better than Grandal. Obviously TLR wont have the conjones to sit Grandal. AJ Pollack needs to sit too. He went 0-5 yesterday with one groundout to a fielder's choice, three more groundouts and one strikeout. Slash line of .216/.242/.344/.586. .

GT 6-4: Sox @ Rays (12:40pm)
The Kids Can Play replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2022 Season in Review
Wow, I never thought of that, but this might sadly be true at the end of the season. Thank you TLR...may we have another! -
Great point! It's not...unless you define the team rudders as TLR and Menechino!

And That's a White Sox Winner !!!!

WTG Jake! Is there still a reason Jake needs to PH and not play 3rd regularly?. Until Moncada can get his act together, Burger should be the daily starting 3rd baseman. -

Yes, its called LaRussa and Menechino! -
The 2005 Sox compared to this 2022 Sox team is comparing apples to oranges...and just plain silly and dumb. That 2005 team was good from the start and stayed that way the entire season...until only a late season little losing streak, but recovered nicely to win the division soundly by 6 games and win 99 games. That team was way better in pitching, hitting and fielding. I'll start believing when they give me solid and consistent reasons they are a bona fide playoff team. They have the talent and potential, but you don't make the playoffs or win a WS based on potential!

A huge mistake to resign Abreu who is aging and will be 35 with significant declining numbers across the board compared to his career averages. Vaughn needs to be the full time first baseman going forward. Get rid of Abreu now and get some good prospects or don't trade Abreu and sign him to a 2-4 year contract and watch his numbers continue to decline! Then when it's too late, you won't get any good prospects for him, when his contract is almost done. Finally if you don't trade Abreu at the deadline, you have no guarantee he signs with the Sox again i 2023. He might just go as a FA to a winning club. Then you got nothing for him. Then again we do have the most demented and ignorant owner in all sports, who has a track record for being loyal to some players and coaches for all the wrong reasons! -
We have only two players left from the trade and if Moncada gets his act together and Kopech continues to get better, then yes it was a good trade. However my point was at the time Sale was arguably one of the best pitchers in baseball. Without a doubt, based on his locked friendly contract a huge valuable asset to trade and we should have gotten more. Hahn should have demanded Devers or threatened he would find someone else. There were plenty of teams who would have given up a lot talent for Sale at that time. It's called negotiating more aggressively and displaying some cojones! The bottom line is if Moncada continues to struggle and maybe never is good again...then we did not win the trade and get enough. If you don't agree with me, that's fine...We'll agree to disagree!

6/4/22 Sox @ Rays, 3:10 pm

I know right...but remember he is a HOF'er and the smartest guy in the room at all times. -
I totally agree. As much as I would hate to do another rebuild, its time to clean house and keep only TA, Robert, Vaughn, Cease, Kopech, Burger and Crochet. Especially overhaling and getting rid of KW and Hahn, along with the entire scouting dept, coaches and managers in the minors. It's a great idea, but until POS Reinsdorf dies or sells, I guess as Sox fans, we will continue our Sox fandom accepting a sports masochistic lifestyle.
-
When I heard these details on the original trade, my respect for Hahn has gone done considerably, especially with his other botched recent trades. Chis Sale at the time was arguably one of the best pitchers in baseball; a lefty on an extremely low and friendly locked contract. Shame on Hahn for not negotiating more aggressively to get Devers and two other quality prospects.

It needs to be some ridiculous rich billionaire like a Jeff Bezos who would spend whatever amounts of money to win. An owner who would aggressively spend on his payroll to get the top talent. A owner so wealthy, that he doesn't care if he eats millions on a loser player to DFA them. An owner who would spend the money to hire the best scouts, managers, coaches and trainers to make the team extremely successful not only at the ML level but in their minors. Reinsdorf might be a billionaire, but only on paper. He is a cheap and demented one at that. We need a owner who has millions in liquid cash to spend. We need an owner who is passionate about winning and sees his team as a fun hobby and understands in a big market...you have to spend money to make money.
-
Yes they did blackballed him. In fact, as I recall, Cuban's bid for the Cubs was actually higher than Ricketts bid, but the owners led especially by our demented owner Reinsdorf didn't want Mark Cuban in MLB. I agree though, he would be an awesome owner for the Sox and a million times better than the worthless POS Reinsdorf.

Since the rebuild Kenny Williams rarely ever speaks. and trust me that is by design. Hahn occasionally talks, but it's nothing more than a lot of BS words with no valid meaning or validity. We all know why Hahn can't tell the fans why this team has become a trainwreck. This is all on our demented owner JR who obviously refuses to come forward and speak up. Why would he? He would then have to admit he made a colossal dumbfounding mistake of hiring his demented buddy TLR to correct his mistake from 35 years ago. The fact is, as bad as this season is right now, it's not nearly as bad as it needs to get for change to happen. As much as it pains me to say this and it would be brutally agonizing to watch...but this season needs to blow up and implode horribly for any change to occur. The Sox not only would need to miss the playoffs, but miss it by a lot...by finishing 3rd or 4th or worse in our division. It would take a good 10-15 games under 500 to create change. JR, Hahn and TLR all need to be humiliated nationally, as well as locally by playing in front of near empty 5k attendances. All the major sports networks need to crucify them for their ignorance and incompetence to hope for any change. Even then...JR is demented and dumb enough to where he might not do anything. The fact is JR is 86 years old. He is too ignorant, senile and stubborn to make any changes until it gets really ugly. It sucks I have to say this but it's a fact. Trust me I have been a diehard fan my entire life and was so excited for the rebuild in 2016...especially as we got close the last few years. This has been painful to watch and has ruined my summer Sox viewing. The only other thing that could change this if one of his sons, preferably Michael was allowed to run the team without interference and meddling from Jerry. Look how ugly it got with Jerry's Chicago Bulls with Pax/Heard running the show. JR did nothing! The only reason it got semi turned around is when his son Michael became the president and 100 percent fully in charge...without his dad meddling in the operations to screw it up. Once that happened, Paxson was removed for Arturas Karnisovas. Michael obviously was smart enough and saw enough of the pathetic John Paxson and made the necessary change. It's real simple! It's either JR passes away, sells the team, goes into full unrecoverable dementia, or let's one of his sane sons run the club...before the Sox players and fans have any remote possibility of change and stopping this trainwreck. Sorry to be so negative, but I'm just being a realist going on the long predicable track record of Jerry Reinsdorf. I'm tired of watching my favorite sports team be ruined and embarrassed! For God's Sake, change needs to happen! Wake the F#*k up Reinsdorf!

This year? How about Moncada has been a huge disappointment in 5 of his 6 years here. Agreed it's a huge disappointment this year since he has only played in 15 of 47 games with a slash of .133/.175/.250/425. He had one great season in 2019. You're right though, It doesn't help matters that he always looks disinterested and not giving 100 percent. That coupled with the fact he was the #1 overall prospect in MLB and the main piece of the Chris Sale trade...yep definitely a huge disappointment.

Or maybe Menechino sucks as a hitting coach. Hernandez was hitting for Cleveland before he came here and then miserably failed with us...and then he goes to Washington and is hitting good again. Hmmm, could be the reason many of our Sox players are hitting so poorly and worse than their normal averages. -
He might cost more but he'll be worth it! Signing Giolito will cost losing zero prospects right now. Trading for Montas will cost the Sox trading away minor league prospects. However the downside is we'll still need to worry about signing Montas before he becomes a free agent after the 2023 season, or trade Montas before he becomes a FA and get prospects back for him. Based on Hahn's track record on trading away valuable prospects for ML talent, I'm not sure that's such a good idea.

It's disgusting and depressing to be reminded how horrible a trade that has become, when Hahn gave away Pilkington for Hernandez. -
New Flash to Hahn: Giolito is as good, if not a better pitcher than Montas and two years younger. Just extend Giolito's contract because the fact is, the SP is one the few positive things on this club. We don't have enough talent in the minors to be giving them away for Montas. This is the least of our problems.
