Thank god Hahn did the right thing and put Eaton on DFA. Good riddance, you won't be missed. Let's hope Engel can stay healthy now and no more hamstring injuries.

No way in hell they move TA to 2B. First of all, Story isn't a better SS. TA in '21 is 0.979 and Story is 0.976. Secondly, TA is the key motivator and vocal leader on this team. TA would be pissed and fight it. Not even the senile TLR, would make such a stupid decision like that. We don't need Story. 2B is a problem, but it's not worth giving up so many good future prospects, it would take, for a half year rental and seeing him walk in 2022 as a FA. Garcia is improving and up to .251 and plays a solid 2B. Thirdly, we will have Madrigal back in 2022. The juice isn't worth the squeeze on Story.
-
He isn't needed. You can find a lot of players to fill the roll in RF with a BA of .200 and OBP of .299. He either strikes out or hits weak groundball outs in clutch situations. I would much rather have Goodwin or Sheets in RF.

Imagine someone told you before the season the following facts: 1. Eloy Jimenez would be seriously injured and not the start the season. He wouldn't be back until late July/early Aug. 2. Luis Robert would get off to a great start hitting .316, but suffer a serious hip flexor injury after 25 games and not be back until late July/early Aug. 3. Nick Madrigal would be leading the team at .305 and leading the team in hits, but get suffer a season ending hamstring injury after only 54 games. 4. Yasmani Grandal would suffer a serious another calf injury that might keep him out for several weeks. So far day to day, but could be worse. 5. Adam Engel wouldn't start the season due to a hamstring injury and wouldn't make it back until game 58. However only after 10 games, he would be put back on IL due to re-injuring his hamstring. 6. During the season Adam Eaton, Jake Lamb, Aaron Bummer, Billy Hamilton and Evan Marshall would all hit the 10 day IL. As these two songs say, if it weren't for bad luck, the Sox wouldn't have any luck at all. ☹️

Incorrect! More than one bad start, but obviously you don't check the stats. It's a damn good thing it's not your choice who the Sox trade. I'm sorry buddy, but Hahn won't be consulting you on the future trades of the Sox!
-
I agree with you and that will be his position eventually. My only point was the RF was the quickest way up with Abreu at 1B and nobody good in RF or injured in RF.
-
There is always a team desperate for a pitcher. A team that thinks they have the right coaches to change and correct him. I don't even care what the Sox get back for him. It can be a few low high A or AA prospects. To keep defending this guy is just plain dumb, while being a contrarian lacking common sense. His pitching style is obsolete by today's high velocity pitchers.
-
I'm not sure why you add sarcasm here! Oh yeah, you like justifying mediocrity, or actually, which is the real reason whenever you debate me, you love being a contrarian. He does suck! If you are suggesting he is a good pitcher, than obviously you are not that knowledgeable in what constitutes a good starting pitcher. As I said, its fine for now, but he won't be in the starting rotation come playoffs. This is what you get for 18 million! Nice! LOL
-
Fact is, he also played 10 years in the minors. If he was so good, why did it take 10 years at .302 BA to get here? Oh yeah he couldn't catch. Gavin can play 1B and RF besides DH.
-
Hmmm, how did that rock solid starter do against the pathetic Tigers yesterday? Oh yeah, horrible! IP 4, H 7 ER 7 BB 3 K 2 HR 1 ERA raised to 4.48. Unless Kuechel does some major turnaround, he will be not be in the starting rotation during the playoffs. Plus he better be traded by next year, because his 18 mil in '22 and 20 mil in '23 is a total absurd waste of money.
-
To compare Gavin to Yermin is ridiculous! Sheets in 3 years in the minors hit BA .281 OBP .357. With Abreu on the Sox, it's obvious Gavin playing coming up to play first base would be one of the toughest hurdles to make it up. It's obvious why they started making Gavin play right field. You can simply tell from Gavin's swing and patience at the plate, he will be a solid hitter for years to come.

White Sox @ Tigers - 7/4/21- Game Thread
The Kids Can Play replied to soxfan49's topic in 2021 Season in Review
Sounds good to me. Actually, we better win! Championship teams win their series against terrible teams like Detroit. Giolito 6-5, 3.84 vs rookie Manning 1-2, 8.16 in only his 4th start. Manning's last start against Cleveland (14th in AL in BA at .228), gave up 9 ER's in 3.2 innings. This time when we get to the bullpen, as opposed to yesterday's zero runs vs the last four relievers, the Sox need to spank Detroit as they have a terrible team bullpen ERA of 5.05 which is 27th in MLB. -
Yes we will see. Look, I want to win a world series this year as bad as any Sox fan. As a result, I hope I'm wrong and Keuchel pitches great the rest of the season. However I just don't trust him, nor do I think his type and speed of pitches. His pitches allow him little margin for error. Hence why he has more hits than innings pitched and the highest ERA.
-
I agree with you that TLR probably had some major doing in Yermin falling completely apart, after he tore him apart mentally in front of the nation. However, I hope Yermin takes this a mission to prove TLR wrong. Hopefully in the off season he can work on losing weight and working some processional trainers to get in better shape and work on his weaknesses at catching, in order to make it back up here or with some other team as a catcher than can hit and not DH. I also agree with you, good luck Jake Burger and catch fire and be the guy that we drafted #1.
-
Well if it's not enough hitting, then how do you explain 48-32 16 games over .500. MLB stats against 30 teams, 2nd in OBP, 6th in Runs per games, 5th in BA and Run Diff of +95 which is tied for 3rd. You say our division is secondary. Are you kidding me. It's the worst division in baseball and the reason we are 5 games in front. Only team in any division with a bigger lead is Milwaukee at 6.5 games up. Btw, the next 9 games are against Detroit, 36-45, Baltimore, 27-54 and then Minnesota 33-46. So please don't tell me playing in our central division is secondary. Our team has probably near the top for most injuries in baseball, definitely most injuries for core players. Yet we are still in first and Eloy and Robert are back around the end of this month. I agree its more than winning the division and going for the World Series. That is why when we get Eloy and Robert get back, we can do exactly that.

Burger Called Up, Eaton Activated, Burdi/Yermin Optioned
The Kids Can Play replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed! Maybe like lose some major lb's and get in better physical shape. Also maybe work with someone qualified in off season to get better at being a catcher. -
Of course the Sox would do the trade. News Flash to all who love this potential trade...it's not happening! As bad of a franchise as Texas is, they are not dumb enough to do that deal. The Sox would have to throw in a lot more players and it's not worth it. Last time Fry was on the team he really wasn't a good relief pitcher. Last year in 18 games: 19.2 inn, 16 hits, 12 BB, 1.42 Whip and ERA of 3.66. Burger hasn't played a single game yet in the MLB. Yes great potential for Burger, but no guarantee. That trade would be the ultimate fleecing of all time. LOL!
-
We have enough hitting. Don't forget we play in a really weak division. When Robert and Eloy are back we will have plenty of power added back. What the Sox don't need, is to give away a ton of future prospects for short term rentals. Madrigal will be back next year and we'll be fine at 2B for years to come. Yes we need a RF, but its not worth giving up good prospects for the future. Although a outfield of Eloy, Robert and Vaughn may not be that strong defensively, it could potentially hit for average and power. MLB teams are only going to give away their upcoming FA's they are about to lose to salvage some prospects. Players like Gallo on partial friendly contracts will cost you more quality prospects. The Sox under Kenny Williams always gave away prospects in trades, I like the way Hahn is building the team with the prospects from our own system and going for only the occasional trade or FA signing. The Tampa Bay Rays make the playoffs consistently and they do with mostly their farm system.

Burger Called Up, Eaton Activated, Burdi/Yermin Optioned
The Kids Can Play replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes Burdi was a compensation 1st round pick, but the fact is baseball sites refer to it as a 1st round pick. The fact is he was picked before the 2nd round. It's semantics with the weird MLB draft rules, but he is a first round pick regardless of the term you want to attach to it. -
It's probably an irrelevant point because the post was to trade Jake Burger and Jace Fry for Joey Gallo. Texas would demand a lot more than those two for Gallo. Anyway with Eloy and Robert due back by as early as late July, we don't need a right fielder or center fielder.

The Kids Can Play replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just hope Burdi can get his act together. You hate to see a former #1 pick with potential be a bum. Yermin needs to lose weight and get in better shape and work on his catching skills, if he wants to ever come up again. -
No way! Gallo may hit HR's but he is a .239 hitter. Plus we already have a CF, when Robert comes back.
-
Agreed! His upside is too great. With all our injuries thus far and his potential, it would be stupid to trade him away for a short term rental.
