  1. I love Thome as a person and eventually a position coach and then leader. That said, of all the boxes Hahn listed in the presser, Thome checks NONE OF THEM! I have to believe the Sox are trotting out all these red herrings so we will be satisfied with their ultimate pick. "Leaking" names like Thome and Getz perfume choices like Washington, Maddon and Shlidt when one of them gets picked.
  2. 1. Espada 2. Beltran 3. Bochy 4. Grifol 5,432. Washington 6,749,530. Maddon 7,645,980,610. Shildt So it will be Shildt
  3. The Sox have been pining for Benintendi since the Red Sox took him one pick ahead of us in the draft. We ended up with Carson Fulmer (yuk). That will be Rick's big signing and he'll ring it in like we just signed Fred Lynn.
  4. I said "drawing out his insight". Gordo just rambles and uses 50 words when 5 will do. Jason asks him direct questions so his responses are more on point.
  5. Hard not to improve considering how awful he was. 90% of his improvement comes from Jason drawing out his insight through asking him direct questions. Without Jason, he's toast.
  6. Well JR'S mouthpiece has spoken. Don't want to trust this multiple championship roster to an unproven manager. Let's retread "old and safe". Don't hire someone that would demand upgrades to the analytics, scouting, development, and training staffs. Heaven forbid the new guy gets to hire his own coaches...... that would threaten guys like Boston and McWavin's lifetime appointments. Let's hire a guy like the former St Louis manager that will just be happy to have a job and take whatever the FO gives him. 42 years of incompetence and counting.
  7. Washington would be a good hire....... as infield coach. Jeez, can we get young analytics driven coach from a winning organization? Nooooooooo. We get this year's version of TLR. I'm out.
  8. I'm hoping the Sox don't f$$$ this up too. Jason wants to be here and the vast majority of Sox fans want him back. This feels like the FO trying to save a few $'s and low ball him since he will miss a few games due to his Fox assignments. Virtually every really good baseball pbp guy has other gigs and their teams deal with it just fine. If the Sox f$$$ this up, get ready for Kasper and Gordo on the call. If that happens I'm watching the opponent's feed. Silence would be better than those two.
  9. Billy Donovan. Virtually no season overlap and huge cost savings. What's not to like?
  10. I'm willing to wait another 72 hours for Rick to have his own "day". Don't stop now boys!
  11. Those are their "City Connect" uniforms. I don't know how many teams have them, but SD's have to be the worst I've seen...... by a lot. I always thought it was cool that they did the cammo unis on Sunday. That is a good look and homage to the military presence in SD.
  12. Yup..... right at the intersection of "suck" and "blow".
  13. Good teams dominate bad teams. Average teams lose to bad teams. We're an average team.
  14. That's why I love Francona. He knew his bullpen was overworked and they had 9 straight with us and Minny. He pretty much punted the game and put those guys back to back for yucks.
  15. Ultimately it comes back to what an earlier poster said; JR does not value what a real manager brings to the table. Hiring people like Bevington, Ventura, and others with no managerial experience is par for the course. He figured any idiot could pilot this loaded roster (in his mind it's loaded because it's the highest payroll he's ever paid). So he decided to correct his "biggest professional mistake" and hire TLR and then plan the parade. This year's failure will be blamed on injuries and Tony will be back because he's Jerry's buddy and that's how he rolls. Jerry thinks he's a genius because of all the Bulls championships. If Portland didn't totally f up and actually draft Michael #2, the Bulls would have never won anything.
  16. They (LaRussa) punted a minimum of 10 games (probably closer to 15) by "resting guys to stay fresh"/unplayable lineups. They so miscalculated this season that they were left in late August to then try to win at all costs. Their handling of Robert was horribly naive and borderline malpractice. He's going to be useless the last 5 weeks of the season because they didn't bite the bullet and IL him after the initial injury in Detroit. This falls on Hahn for not supplementing this roster the last 1 1/2 years with ML talent. He needs to go.
  17. Today on PTI from Michael Wilbon; "if Terry Francona was managing the White Sox, they'd be 20 games over .500. The White Sox are the most under achieving team of the season". What made it noteworthy to me was the segment had nothing to do with us. It was showing Francona and the Angels manager being thrown out on the same play. He clearly wanted to vent on LaRussa.
  18. Ladies and gentlemen, this is all about ego. Larussa's ego is as big as Montana. He is a narcissist who believes only he can turn this team into a winner He says he doesn't want to be a distraction, which is utter BS. It has always been all about Tony, 1st and always. It's also ego on the part of Jerry. Nobody tells a billionaire how to run his business. He basically would rather lose his way than win listening to others. Remember he broke up the Bulls because "players don't win championships management does". We'll get nothing nice until both these guys are long gone.
  19. Have we gotten confirmation that LaRussa did in fact travel back to Chicago with the team?
