  1. Understood. Thank you for the clear explanation.
  2. I thought he had 12 fingers.
  3. If I am to understand @ptatc's post, is it fair to say that your concern now is Crochet's not having gone through an offseason recovery after a 150-inning season, and therefore there may be a further risk of injury for 2025? Or am I misreading / misinterpreting?
  4. Seems like a “wouldn’t be a bad signing if not a Major League contract before Thanksgiving” signing. Like, this seems like an overly-assertive move, compared to what it is / could be. Seems like a guy worth taking a flyer on for sure.
  5. Wasn't it literally like once each decade we had a top-5 (or top-7) payroll? 3rd largest market in the league, and we have a top-5 payroll once every 10 years or so? You become terrible by not developing the prospects you get in return. Letting players walk (Rodon) is bad, but good teams turn prospects into good players. We do a terrible job at developing prospects. Therefore, we are a bad team.
  6. We missed out on a good "Nicky Henderson" opportunity there, no?
  7. What Fenway food item is that twitter associated with?
  8. Tell me, Greg. Who have the Yankees been losing to all these years, and what strategies have THEY employed? Again, this is all ironic coming from a guy who made a career out of playing a position that, 30 years earlier, would have been considered evidence of a failed career.
  9. @Look at Ray Ray Run and I went over this a couple of weeks back. Basically, I think you guys are in agreement. That said, the distinction is that, in Ray Ray's view, guys like Bannister (the coaching staff / development-responsible guys) should let the talent acquisition guys (scouts, GM, analysts, etc.) know the types of player they need, but they shouldn't be in charge of acquiring the players. The talent acquisition guys should know these preferences and tendencies and be able to identify the right players based on the coaches' input, but the acquisitions ultimately need to be made by a group that specializes in it.
  10. So THAT was the other shoe with this FO move. Getz was got.
  11. So you’re mad that he hasn’t made a positively impactful move, correct? This is the type of move that happens all the time across all orgs. I’m critical of Getz’s player acquisitions and player personnel decisions, but I fail to see how this waiver pickup is a cause to be upset.
  12. I mean, at least this signing won't be the reason we don't get someone better.
  13. Getz at least seems to make good hires and want to move the organization in the right direction. I just hope he knows how to acquire players and develop a front office structure / coaching structure that can develop players in a cohesive manner.
  14. Sun Times is 100% free, I thought. You just need to register for a free account.
  15. Yeah, this is one of those acquisitions that I really have no idea why people would be upset over. If the Sox were making this acquisition out to be some franchise-altering signing worthy of a press release with someone else's signature, that's one thing.... but this is literally a waiver wire pickup of a lottery ticket. Big f'ing whoop.
  16. You do realize the Hall of Fame's standards, generally speaking, are greatness in comparison to your era's peers, right? That's why you have guys like Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas, and Trevor Hoffman in the Hall. Back when they were playing, there was still a lot of debate over if they deserved to be in the Hall because of their positions (DH = failed fielder; CL / RP = failed starter). The Hall's standards evolve with the game, so the whole "you need (x) wins to get in the Hall" is an extremely outdated notion.
  17. Lachlan Hoogheem, a cousin (by marriage) to Lars Nootbaar
  18. What if I told you it could be both?
  19. Now, now. Let's not be reasonable here.
  20. Yeah, that's the confusing part. I'm half wondering if the change was temporary and just enough to keep the hitters guessing a little more.
  21. Yeah, but has that stopped us before?
