Well never be a Cleveland type operation because Cleveland, while not spending a ton of money and being cheap, invests in their scouting and development and make smart hires. The White Sox wont do this, and the money they do spend is spent on the mid tier of free agency for players that aren't moving the championship needle.

Its been said to death, but we just need new ownership. Once that happens, ill immediately feel better about the state of the team.

    I think that's my point.

We need to do more things like Cleveland and other similarly run orgs, but JR won't allow it, or Getz doesn't want to go that route (or both).

  2. I am in the “wait and see” camp, but the bad moves are far outweighing the good. Anyone can see that.

has he made positive changes? I hope so. I am giving Barfield the benefit of the doubt, and it seems like pitching has an actual development strategy. I also appreciate that they’re keeping  Montgomery down to actually develop.

That said, these positive changes are things that get us caught up to a Cleveland type of operation if we do it across the entire org, top to bottom. We have a LONG way to go, and I don’t think Getz (at least in this org) is going to be able to do enough to get out of the cellar.

At the press conference last year, JR mentioned several scouts from other teams were recently let go, and said he thought the Sox might be able to take advantage of that. Wait a year.

By “the Sox might be able to take advantage of that,” I am beginning to suspect that he meant “the Sox can also slash their entire scouting budget to match the competition.”

  4. Because I made you all have so much fun today by starting a game thread yesterday a day ahead of time, I am going to start the tomorrow game thread today, which will be yesterday tomorrow, but tomorrow of that.

  5. I can't quote because ads are blocking the quote button @WestEddy, but I am annoyed that they waited basically an entire IL stint to "see if he heals," then play him because he's their only option after an in-game injury, then IL him anyways.

It's not like they "waited a couple of days" here. And this is a pattern with this team for years.

Whichever lane that puts me into in your mind, that's the lane I'm in, I guess.

Moronic? Seeing as they didn't have another shortstop on the 40-man, and Lopez was on waivers, maybe they didn't want to have to roster Remillard or Difo. It's a 31-109 team. How bad could they be, playing a guy short on expanded rosters?

That bold part really does make this exchange asinine.

That said, guys like Sosa could have filled in at SS in the meantime, no? It's just mind boggling that they keep doing this same "play short for basically the entire duration of an IL stint" thing, especially when they're calling guys up for 1 game at a time.

Giving up home runs to Lopez and Fletcher in the same game may be the single most pathetic achievement any pitcher has had all year

I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in the bylaws that if you give up homers to players like Lopez and Fletcher in the same game, you are now that team's property.

Not sure which bag of drugs that was written in, but I'm pretty sure that's how it goes.

It's funny that everyone seems to have "they played shorthanded" and "why bring a guy up for a day" macros on their keyboard. The wrist didn't respond to treatment. Big deal.

Is it that we're just noticing the moronic things that this org is doing more, or is that they're doing more of said moronic thing?

The IL is 10 days. Wasn't he sitting out for over a week? IL him after a couple of days, and let his wrist figure out if it's gonna respond to treatment while on the IL.

Not that any of this matters this year anyways.

Is there any reason to suspect that the White Sox will be an active player in free agency? Not signing cast-offs, but actual impact type players?

Does a season this awful alter the outlook of the organization? Continue to build via the minor league system, but you can't have the worst major league team in history as a result. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable balance to strike.

Any player who signs here is in it for the money, or because he can’t get a big league roster spot anywhere else (…which is basically to say, because of the money).

Without any glimmer of hope for a brighter future like in 2018 or 2019, good luck.

Jake out of JR's preferred salary range.

Maybe the original (actual) Jake from State Farm.

Hell - as an outsider (not in baseball at all), he’d be open to input from reputable sources, and not just JR’s “brain” “trust” (I feel like the two separate set of quotes is necessary here)

Spot on with number 9 and 10.   50% reduction in ticket prices would help fill the seats.   Yes, MLB needs to step up and help this pitiful organization and give them the first pick in the draft.   Maybe even the first 5 picks😄

Not sure that 50% reduction would do much of anything at this point.

Besides - the Sox get their attendance revenue subsidized by the state, so whether they draw 1,000 or 1,000,000, they don’t really care,

First move, Do the thing that Jerry absolutely does not do!  Then after that, invest in the team!

You mean, "then after that, do the other thing that Jerry doesn't know how to do"
