The fact that it’s been 18 years since we’ve been the “better team” and have had the “better team” once in over 100 years is embarrassing to me.
-
I considered that angle, but I consider Eloy to be replacing Eloy / Pollock. Vaughn is replacing Jose, and Benny is replacing Vaughn. at least that’s how I view it, when all’s said and done.
-
So 1 guy we’re counting on to be the same as last year, 1 guy we’re hoping is finally being put in a position to succeed (replacing a fan favorite), and one guy who is a positional upgrade over the second guy you mentioned? …meh.

Give me 3 reasons to be optimistic.

19 Bally RSN's going bankrupt, 14 MLB teams potentially affected

Makes me wonder what sort of insurance policies are waiting to be paid out.... -

For one, there's no way for us to stream Bally Sports. Obviously is probably a drop in the bucket, but it can't help when you effectively limit your product's availability. -
Yeah, but what about the Dairy Queen bucks???

Grifol on instituting new team culture, Robert tutoring Colas in FL
JoeC replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As pessimistic as I am in general about this season, I largely agree with you. I truly believe that the 2022 team was awful not because of talent, but because of execution. To me, that's largely coachable, and having a leader who sets the tone like Grifol seems to be doing is a good start. I'm still pissed and disappointed in the lack of moves, but the change in leadership alone SHOULD account for fewer uncontrolled meltdowns. Say what you will about the "Ricky's boys don't quit" crap, but how many times did "Ricky's boys" just roll over and play dead? And how many times did that same cast roll over and play dead last year under Tony? -
My dad in recent years has been buying a suite for family and friends once a year at Sox games. That's basically his big annual party for family once a year. This year, as a protest, he bought a suite to a game.... in Oakland. It's going to be cheaper for us to fly to Oakland (note: we have family out there) for this game... and we're giving money to an OPENLY cheap organization (not an org that will lie to you about it)

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread

Too painfully accurate. -
"What time can you make it?" "Ricky's Boys Don't Haven't Quit Yet" "___days since our last PR nightmare"

So it's never going to happen? Well, wouldn't putting your brand name on the ballpark be a form of elevating brand awareness? I'm confused as to why "brandname Field at Comiskey Park" spoken out loud 15 times a broadcast wouldn't accomplish that goal. Never said he did. Only said that, as a corporation, I could see their strategy to try to earn goodwill points with a fan base by restoring part of the historical legacy name. If I stated anything otherwise about Reinsdorf in this regard, I apologize.
-
Plus, from a corporate image standpoint, imagine being the sponsor who resurrected a "long-beloved classic name" as part of its naming rights. "Look! We're sponsoring the White Sox, and we're bringing back the 'Comiskey' name! We're awesome!"
-
So you're saying that corporate sponsors cannot adopt that style of naming?
-
Plus... what did we give up? If this were headlined as the marquee acquisition of the offseason, yes - time to be mad. For what it is, it's a good move.
-
Devil's advocate take: Could be a "Wintrust Field at Comiskey Park" sort of thing. Like "Oriole Park at Camden Yards."
-
Not a bad trade at all. Guy has 3 options remaining, to boot, per Fangraphs. Doesn't change the overall outcome of the offseason, but it's a nice needle-nudger.
-
Yeah, definitely not a positive read. When I see frustrations by the front- line talent met with "that's how we do things here" by management... the only thing i can think of is that "the way we do things here" sounds shitty. Sounds like the obvious question is "what if the way we've always done things is wrong?"

Ways to Improve Guaranteed Rate Field (joke answers only)

I can't see us doing fireworks for the visiting team's home runs, and besides - Keuchel's gone. (that's the best I could do) -

On kids' day: one lucky fan gets to be an "apprentice pyrotechnician" and help the pyrotechnician load and fire the fireworks. Note: I actually kind of like this one for real. -

Create a new "600 level" located on the rooftop of the 500 level. Include an "activity zone" complete with rappelling and a rock climbing wall. A lucky winner gets to base-jump off of the roof and make a grand entrace onto the field to deliver the first pitch ball. "Rooftop seating works for the Cubs, so why not us?" -
It's more that it is becoming clearer and clearer that the Sox are sugnkng these guys as necessary minor league depth, when they should be considered minor league fillers.
-
I love these kinds of acquisitions. Low-risk, high-upside (albeit low probability) ...that said, I hate that this type of acquisition is the best we can hope for.

Yeah, seems like we're more of a dropout... like we've just given up entirely.
