GLOAD THROWS LEFTY, HE CAN'T PLAY THIRD. I don't know why people think he can.
-
no, he's a freelance writer we picked up, very creative ... and a Sox fan.
-
I've actually meant to post some stuff, but I always forget. here is another piece this guy wrote a week or so ago on the Cell ... I thought it was funny. http://www.chicagosportsreview.com/localop...ew.asp?c=103737
-
I skimmed through it and thought it was a good piece as well Alex. there were times when you were a bit repetitive and could've combined two sentences, but it was a good piece overall. considering your age, you could definitely become a writer, but as you said, the getting the ideas is the hard part. there are some good writers out there, but they can't think of more than one thing to write every month or so.
-
I think what you need to keep in mind in regards to these national writers is that they aren't writing to inform Sox fans, but baseball fans in general. what we know about the White Sox, 90% of the readers may not and the same can be said the other way around.

Saturday's Southtown - Magglio Optimism

if they sign Maggs and the Sox continue to play good, Sox fans have no more excuses. -

email me at [email protected] with your name and a bit more detail on your intentions. If you are looking at a career in sports journalism, this is definitely a place to start as you'll be able to make mistakes and I'll work with you as you go along. I'm looking foward to speaking with you. -
The Ultimate Irony, good news/Bad news
Molto replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
wow, congrats Jas ... I remember you talking about that a couple semesters back. I agree with you on Berns and Boers and Me and Z ... I don't listen to the radio a lot, but those four guys are definitely good radio guys. Mike North is a dickhead though, without question. -
White Sox/Cubs Correspondents Needed

thanks jas, I appreciate it ... hopefully nobody got the wrong impression from Rectors post. -
I don't think are bullpen is good in that we have dominating guys, but we have 6-7 quality guys, which is why I think Guillen will have to stick with the hot hand many times this season and not focus too much on matchups. we have guys (outside of Marte) who could be really good or really bad at any given time. when one is good, leave him in, because there is no guarantee how the next one will do.

thanks SS. btw, if I recall correctly, your piece wasn't crap. and even if it were written poorly, I know you at least had the baseball knowledge to make up for it. -

CRector, this isn't the place to handle any beef you have with me. if you want me to be completely honest with you, you are a below average writer that has no logical basis to anything you say. You sent me 4-5 pieces, we talked about the first two a couple of times and finally I published them after you fixed them (which even then, they were below average). I said you are more than free to send me any more pieces you work on, but never guaranteed I would publish them or take the time to work with you on it. As a college student who has a job to go with working for the Chicago Sports Review, I don't have time to respond to every piece you send me and I don't have time to drop everything I have to attend to you. If someone sends me a bad piece, I will try to work with that person the first couple of times, but after that, it is purely up to the person to send me something that is publishable. If not, unless the person is working with the magazine or helping the magazine in some other way, I will not waste my time to go through it. I'm sorry you had a problem writing for me and CSR, but ask everyone else who has dealt with me before and I guarantee most, not all (there are other people just like you) won't have a complaint about me. Now, as far as the personal rip on me (calling me lazy). That is something I take GREAT offense to. Anyone who knows me on this board knows how much I bust my ass. Anyone who knows me on this board knows that if it wasn't for my hard work (as well as jason's) you wouldn't have this place to even make the inane post you just did. Anyone who knows me knows I don't hold back in any work that I do and knows I'll do whatever to help others. You can say your experience with CSR was bad, you can say your experience with me was bad, but don't ever call me lazy again. -
personally, I would've went with Koch/Marte, but I don't see the prob in leaving in Politte for the first batter ... he was still throwing hard and was going good, he just lost control. Now not that this should've changed Guillen decision, but keep in mind that Randa and Harvey combined are 10-17 versus Marte/Koch, that is if you are going strictly by the numbers.
-
but if a guy is going good a guy is going good. Politte starting the ninth wasn't a problem, him being left in after the walk? that is something you question. outside of that, I'm pleased with how Guillen went about today's game. unfortunately, like every manager, Guillen will be forced to listen to the monday morning quarterback style of White Sox fans. If he pulls Politte, he would be dumb for pulling a hot pitcher and criticized for showing any confidence in Koch. If he keeps him in, you'll get the reaction that has been rampant since the loss.
-
can we please not say Corpseball when it isn't needed? Marte didn't get the job done, simple as that. One of the few guys on this team who we know/are expecting to be money this year didn't produce. Outside of him, I was impressed with everything else.
-
funny, when Manuel left Koch in a game like this, people got pissed because he should've went to another guy. now you guys are pissed that a manager is going to another guy. Politte was good, until the ninth (should've been pulled after the first walk). Koch looked good but needs to gain confidence in his slider. Marte looked terrible, something he's never looked. 9/10 times Marte is going to come in and shut the door ... it didn't happen. Will this affect the rest of the season? knowing the Sox of years past? yeah, momentum is big, but you can't really blame Guillen for this.

Hey guys, With the baseball season just weeks away, we (The Chicago Sports Review - chicagosportsreview.com) are looking for correspondents (2-4 each) for both the White Sox and Cubs. We're looking for, but are not limiting it to, people with a journalism/writing background, or future intentions of doing so. These correspondents will work on a rotating basis and their jobs will consist of writing recaps, news reports and stories for whatever team they are covering (I'm assuming anyone interested on this board would prefer to cover the Sox). Keep in mind, however, that we are NOT a fan site, we are a monthly Chicago sports magazine, so all reports written must be done in an objective fashion and follow AP-style writing. Whoever is interested must be able to write short, simple and concise recaps and news reports (on average of 150-300 words, pending the story, of course). Also keep in mind that as a correspondent, you may have the opportunity, if you'd like, to write for the magazine and at times cover the White Sox or Cubs from the inside, meaning with press credentials. This is NOT a paying position, but is for people who are looking for experience, to be published and/or looking to work their way up the Sports Media ladder. If anyone is interested, email me at [email protected] with your resume, clips and/or intentions. PLEASE, do not simply write saying that you'd like to give it a try without having any background or future expecations ... these are positions that need dedicated, reliable people. Also, for anyone interested in covering the Chicago Fire this season or, as always, for anyone interested in just writing period (commentaries, columns, news reports, feature writer for the magazine), please email me as well. Thanks for your time guys, Mario Scalise (Molto) New Media Editor ChicagoSportsReview.com

I'm all for this move since Lee will be batting behind Thomas (you don't want Thomas and Konerko batting back to back), but the big thing I'd like to see is Lee bat in the two-hole. With Harris and Uribe leading off, there is no guarantee we are going to have success at the top of the order so having a guy like Lee, someone who has some speed and power, will make things a lot easier in my opinion for whoever is leading off. plus, it allows us to balance the back of the order with Valentin as a lefty. Harris, Lee, Thomas, Ordonez, Konerko, Valentin, Crede, Rowand and Olivo is much more balanced in my opinion.
-
I was at that game yesterday, as was jason, and Crede's wife wasn't walking on the concourse, she was sitting in the last row behind the net, off to the right, underneath the canapy. the ball was a popup and it richocheted off that canapy, which is just bars, and hit the baby in the head. the baby wasn't in the second row, wasn't down the base lines, wasn't on the concourse ... s*** like that happens.

lol, I'm trying to cut back, but it's soo hard. thanks guys.

I too am dissapointed Edwards dropped out as he was, in my opinion, the best candidate, but he had little chance of winning the nomination so it was better to get it over with. I'm not a huge fan of Kerry and I don't like his chances up against Bush, but I still have to vote for him because right now, I think I'd rather not know what the future holds (Kerry) than know that the worst may still be on the way (Bush).

happy B-Day Mark and thanks for all that you've done for Soxtalk and the now extinct SoxNet, it's greatly appreciated.

umm, I didn't say Prior was bad, I just said he should prove himself before he's labeled the greatest pitcher in the history of the world.
