why can't you settle for two? why is sweepin the f***ing yankees that damn important? you act like we went into this game with the expectation to lose. Manuel made it clear, he wanted to win this series but also wanted to give Buehrle an extra day of rest. HAD we of lost the first or second game, we would be tied for first and the third game would be important, thus warrant starting Buehrle, but we won the first two so there is NO NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ROTATION AROUND. he wanted to give Buehrle the day off so he can use him more down the stretch, against teams like the Twins and Royals, you know, the ones in OUR DIVISION. yeah, forget about them, our only concern is sweeping the yankees.
-
LOL, I don't what is funnier, a fan who complains over s*** like this, saying it is the start of a tailspin (this will cause a tailspin? yeah, okay), or the response they get.
-
Buehrle wasn't going on three days rest. Manuel just decided to give Buehrle an extra day off, nothing is wrong with that, especially when there is a good chance Buehrle will be pitching on three days off sometime over the next month. also, why is everyone talking like Cotts is terrible and Buehrle is a god? Cotts isn't a terrible pitcher, and even though he's young and wild, he could've just as easily pitched a decent enough game. just easily Mike Mussina could've pitched a gem, or, hold your breath, maybe even Mark Buehrle would've been hit around. I think this whole thing has been blown WAY out of proportion and just another excuse for fans to complain. I never seen a manager get jumped on so much for not moving a guy up in August for a game that is no more important than any other. IF this were against the Royals or Twins, Manuel should be criticized for it because they are big games in big series; no reason to start Cotts when Buehrle is available. This series with the Yanks was huge, but this game wasn't. because of this, the rotation should stay as is, which it did.
-
that is something people seem to forget. whether we lost or not today, fact is we beat them every inning outside of the first. only reason they won is because we had a young and wild Cotts on the mound. you never want to lose, but at least we showed we can go toe to toe with this team, even when we have our fifth starter out there.
-
I never seen so much of a fuss over a rotation decision in the middle of the season for a game that means no more than any other game. but you are right, everyone needs to relax. people complain when we lose and find things to complain about when we win. let's just all relax and focus on the next series. I just hope Buehrle doesn't struggle tomorrow and use this as yet another excuse.
-
oh yeah, because Buehrle is the master of holding leads and has never had bad starts.
-
but in a playoff race, you have to try to win any game you can. with Buehrle going tomorrow, we have a VERY good chance of winning one game. with Buehrle going today and Cotts going tomorrow, we have two decent shots at winning.
-
any jackass can beat the Tigers? your the same guy who would complain then if we lose to them with Cotts on the mound. as of right now, we are down one run with a chance to win this game and we have Buehrle starting against the Tigers tomorrow, not a bad situation.

well, if Crede falls behind to Rivera, they should have Harris steal. if he gets thrown out, at least Crede starts over against Rivera in the ninth. -
I'm not saying Cotts is the same as Buehrle, all I'm saying is it doesn't make a difference. Buehrle VS Yankees - our chances of winning improves but we aren't favorites Cotts VS Tigers - Cotts could win against a weak team, but we are a facing a no name pitcher, so it is heads up Cotts VS Yankees - Yankees have a big advantage in this game Buehrle VS Tigers - Sox have a HUGE advantage in this game fact is, with Buehrle going against the Tigers tomorrow we have a very good chance of pulling out a win, which is what we need right now. look at it this way, we could lose 10-0 and win 10-0 or we can lose 5-4 and lose 5-4. in this situation we lessen our chances at winning one game but strengthen our chances and winning another. that is how I'm looking at it.
-
I didn't know a win against the Yankees meant more than a win against the Tigers. last time I checked, they are both wins and have the same impact on the standings, which is what we are looking at, correct?
-
I never thought Buehrle was this good. the guy has shown us several times that he can't pitch in low scoring games. so far, we have three runs. it is not like Buehrle is a guarantee for 8 IP 2 runs. Cotts, Buehrle or Buehrle, Cotts, it really doesn't make much of a difference.
-
you know what is funny about all of this? had Buehrle of pitched today and won and Cotts pitch tomorrow, and lose, people will be complaining and ripping this team because they weren't able to beat the lowly Tigers on the road. you may not like the move of starting Cotts, but people are acting as if it is going to cost us the playoffs. does Mark Buehrle not have a better chance of winning tomorrow then Neal Cotts? I think he does, which could lead to a win either way. had Buehrle of pitched today, we wouldn't have had a clear edge, we have one tomorrow. all we need is wins right now, that is all.
-
pitching Wright instead of Cotts wouldn't be a bad idea, especially down the stretch when we are facing the Royals and Twins. also, Wright will likely be in the pen come playoff time, so starting him would be keep him active until then.
-
thank you. PLUS, and I think people ignore this too, IF BUehrle would have went today, Cotts would go Friday with guess who going Saturday? Jon Garland. nothing wrong with Garland, but he's had a career worth of struggles at Comerica in his career. he's also our fourth starter and a guy who has had his share of inconsistency. so you can set yourself for an overworked pen against a Tigers team, while your pen gets no work against the Yankees.
-
what is the difference between today's game and tomorrow's game? please tell me, because outside of pleasing Buehrle, there would be no reason to change the rotation simply at an attempt to sweep the Yankees.
-
I know a lot of people, even Hawk and DJ, are questioning and complaining of JM's decision to start Neal Cotts over Mark Buehrle. first off, people are making it seem as though Buehrle was skipped, he wasn't second, he wasn't "skipped" because of health problems, but because why not give him a day off when you can, especially since there is a good chance he'll be pitching on three days later on. three, our offense is rolling right now and guess who we face tomorrow? Nate Robertson, anybody know who he is? a guy we've never faced. in short, we have/had a better shot at scoring runs off Mussina and supporting Cotts as opposed to scoring runs off a guy we never seen before. also, Buehrle could've pitched today, pitched a great game and take the loss because we are facing Mussina, not a bad pitcher by any means. so we could lose the game and then have to try to pull off a win with Cotts on the mound, on the road, against a pitcher we've never faced and a team who isn't really good. at least Buehrle going on Friday we have a very good chance of taking two from the Tigers, which is what we need to do each series, win two. the only reason I would've started Buehrle this game was because he wanted to start it and he deserves that, but all this crap about this being a big game and how it would be smarter would we have done it that way is crap.
-
nothing wrong with this move. Buehrle will still get his starts either way. good thing is Buehrle could pitch awesome tomorrow and still lose and Cotts could lose in Detroit, giving us two losses. at least in this case, we have a very good chance at winning Friday. after all, the most important thing right now is to pick up wins.

whitesox.com is reporting the same. am I late on this news?
-
they are saying Cotts, not Buehrle will be pitching tomorrow against the Yankees
-
Colon sure did suck tonight.
-
yeah, it is something they much improve upon because right now their offense is power oriented, which isn't the best way to score runs consistently. the only thing I'd like to see the Sox do more of is bunting and hit and runs. they are gonna have to learn how to manufacture runs when needed because come playoff time, if there is one, we are gonna get into those pitching duels.
