his range may be better than Konerko who has none at all. like you said, outside of throwing the ball, Thomas is just as good as Konerko, and with Valentin at short, it might be good to have a big guy at second tall enough to catch his throws. either way, Konerko needs to fewer and fewer time out there over the next couple weeks. have him just sit and relax, work on his swing and get his head straightened out.

very surprised to see Crede up there, I think because he has the tendancy to swing at bad pitches down in the count. he either swings at the bad ones or lets the good ones go, which is why that is so high. he's looked better of late though. that is a really good stat.

Jimenez is a good defensive second baseman, but I he doesn't have the tools to be a good shortstop. I think he can be adequate over there, but if he is there, we have to shore up our defense at other positions. defensive liabilities aren't problems as long as you have good defensive players around the play (main reason why we should dump Valentin). I'll say this though. come July-August and we still have no shot at this thing, the Sox need to do an experiment and test him at short. we all think Jimenez can't play short, but we'll never know until we actually see it, and if the season is over, and hopefully Valentin is gone, any mistakes made won't be harmful.

should make your statement clearer next time.

oh shut up. I get so sick and tired of people getting the crosstown series of a battle to see who is better. if you haven't noticed, we've had better teams than the cubs for a few years now, yet the series is split down the middle EVERY TIME. we can have 10 wins heading into that series and still win two out of three, but it doesn't f***ING MATTER. it's a series for a fans, never really shows who is the better team.

I would play Daubach over Konerko and Thomas right now, even though he isn't swinging a great bat either. reason is unlike Konerko and Thomas, Daubach isn't trying to do everything, he's putting good, sound swings on the ball, which is what we need.

was a love story kinda, but nothing you'll get bored with. it is mostly a comedy, then the love story thing.
-
it wasn't really as funny as it was made out to be, but it made up for its storyline and the moral-issue behind it.
-
don't worry, Buehrle is going tomorrow. he'll either go deep or get the s*** kicked out of him to the point where Sanders will do just fine. Koch, Marte and Gordon can be used if needed. Glover will be ready also.
-
it is funny how people can blame Thomas individually, or Jimenez individually, or Koch individually, or Konerko, or Gordon, but god forbid Valentin is criticized even though he's more deserving than anyone. we are 3-18 when we make an error and coincedentally, Valentin is our worst defensive player. he is way overrated.
-
once again, what good is range when you can't make the throw? what good is clutch if nobody is on base to make it a clutch situation. god I hate to keep saying it, but that is the truth.

the crosstown series never has shown the better ball club. we've split with the cubs since it started yet we've clearly been the better team. good or bad, the series will be close again this year. as far as this season? it isn't over as anything can happen. we just need to get this offense going. they need to start forcing the action out there. for about a week this year they were doing hit and runs, stealing, bunting and doing all this stuff to put pressure on the opposing D. lately, they've done nothing. put pressure on the "D" and get this offense going and this team will win plenty.
-
people look at the bottom line, losses. this offense has been terrible. I think whoever thought this offense would be weak wouldn't of thought it would be this bad. this is why you can't count out the season. if the talent is there when the season starts and no injuries happen during the season, things can turn around. the offense doesn't go from a sure bet to garbage in a couple months. this team is no different then the one entering spring training was, which is when many saw a promising season ahead. talent is here, just a matter of putting it together, which too many times for the Sox never happens, or should I say, never happens until time is up.
-
this won't last all year. in both 2001 and 2002 we were terrible in the early going and played good as the season went on. didn't matter much as we didn't make the playoffs either year, but this won't last. I remember in 2001 how people thought the Sox would only win 75 games because of how they started, but finished with what... 84? I can't say it is early because it isn't, and although we are fortunate to be only 5 games out, we still have played bad. the GOOD thing is we are playing bad because of our offense first and foremost, which I think is one of the easier things to solve in baseball. improving an offense is a lot easier than improving a rotation, bullpen, defense, fundamental's and all that. so that is the one positive. this offense is just bad and needs an overhaul. we need defensive, fundamental, speed players on this team. until then, this offense will never do anything special outside of a few explosive games here and there (we can't even do that anymore).
-
all depends what you consider a leadoff hitter. would you rather have leadoff hitter a guy who takes pitches and gets on base? or one with more speed and better base-stealing skills? I think Jimenez is a PERFECT leadoff man if you have speed around him, because the sox have no speed, his one weakness (speed) is exploited.

being vocal on the field? knowing when to take the cutoff and where to throw it? isn't that part of the job for a shortstop? there are plenty of guys who can do that. Valentin isn't unique because he's a leader and plays hard, because like jason said, there are a lot of guys who play hard yet still perform. you think with all his hard work though he'd be a better player. I mean a guy in his mid-30s still can't fundamentally play shortstop after playing there his whole career? he's a 30 error shortstop an inaccurate arm, no hands, a pretty good at bat against RIGHTIES only, and is a pretty good hitter sometimes. on the other hand, he has good range, he's clutch, a good baserunner and leader? he has good range, but still has to throw it after if he even catches it in the first place. he's a clutch hitter with men on base, but only few guys are on base for him. the only way he'd get a lot of clutch at bats is in the 6-hole, a spot he can't bat at. he's a good baserunner, yet has a .296 OBP, which means he's not on base enough times to showcase it. he's a leader and "winner" yet has only been on one playoff team in his 12 year career. Valentin isn't that good and if we can find a young shorstop to take his place, we gotta do it.
-
well, like I said, he probably didn't know our way of doing things, which is understandable.
-
another person who would rather blame KW for something he didn't do. I'd really like someone to give me a list of all these "prospects" KW cleared the organization of. everytime someone says that and I ask, they say Wells and Fogg........and? organizations from a farm system have their highs and lows. eventually, prospects come up and either make it or they don't. meaning you have to wait for the new cycle. our minor leagues were strong a few years back because of guys like Garland, Wells, Rauch, Barcelo, Wright and all these guys. people act like KW dumped everyone from there.
-
arm? what are we, little league coaches here? impressed with someones arm and not with its accuracy? Valentin has range, I'll give him that, but isn't that much better compared to other shortstops in baseball to where it makes up for his poor play on routine grounders. offensively? once again, good baserunner and clutch hitter, but like I've said a MILLION times, he can't show either unless he's on base or people are on base. Valentin is a .250 hitter with 20 HR and 70 RBIs, along with 30 errors. his leadership is great, but that doesn't mean anything. as far as being a winner? well, maybe attitude-wise, but how many winning teams has he been on in his career? fact is, defense wins games and anyone who doesn't believe that should look at our record when we make an error as opposed to when you don't make an error. if we have a chance to get a young shorstop who can catch the ball, get him.
-
jump on AIM too jas if you can real quick.
-
lol, I don't remember that jas
-
YEAH YOU MIKE! lol. seriously though, people always said, "well, we won't in 2000 with Valentin and his errors at short" making it sound as though Valentin's 30 errors were a reason for us winning. errors are harmfull and will bit you in time.
-
it may have been before Murc fully knew our way of doing things, or he may have deleted it on accident, kinda like what I did last week while trying to move a post.
-
okay, he's a good baserunner who has reached base how many times this year? people say Valentin is a good baserunner and a clutch hitter. can't be a good baserunner unless you are on base and you can't be a clutch hitter unless guys are on base for you.
-
you are like everyone else then who said this in 2000, 2001 and 2002. just because an error doesn't lead to a run, doesn't mean it isn't costly or can't become costly in time. One error automatically leads to another batter, more pitchers and less confidence a pitcher has for his fielders. it is a problem that has to be resolved before it becomes a bigger problem. Valentin makes errors and one day, like it has three times this year, it is going to cost us. you make it seem as though his errors are acceptable because we always pick up after him.
