we had a huge discussion about this in my Copy Editing class today. What this guy did leaves a huge mark on me as a journalist, or at least an aspiring. What is even worse is Tribune readers commented on this and said they aren't the least bit surprised, meaning before this, print journalism has been questioned for some time. I mean really, just the other day people on this board spotted Carol Slezak's column about Manuel, when she said Ward is Manuel's guy and Walker is Williams guy, then later says Walker is Manuel's guy. If you read any newspaper, any day, you will spot at least five errors, which kills the credibility, whether the facts are straight or not. What Blair did was pitifull but it is clear he did this more than just being lazy. He wanted to see how far he can go. Since mid-2002, he was held accountable for many mistakes, but all they did was say "don't do it again", threw him on smaller stories, and a few weeks later, threw him on the front page again. He did this to simply see how far he will go, and because of this, he will soon sign a movie deal, just like Glass will soon be doing. it is a shame.

well, we are. WSI has its strength and we have ours. if we are gonna be afraid that a link to their site will cause people to leave here, then we really don't have a good site, which makes everything else useless.

the guy on ESPN Radio just said today that Valentin will make an error that will cost the Sox in the next four games, he was almost right.
-
I'm upset at the fact that he didn't use his curveball much at all, but he looked decent.

I said in the begining of the season that if Buehrle doesn't get run support, it would be interesting to see how he reacts. so far, it hasn't been good. this is really the first time in his career he's struggled with no offensive support and his confidence is hurting. hopefully he gets through this, which I think he will.

Julio got fined, but not suspended. why? no idea. terrible decision.

Colon, Manuel Suspended 5, 1 Games Respectively By Mario Scalise May 21, 2003 SoxNet.net (SN Report #499) - As a result of last weeks bench-clearing incident with the Baltimore Orioles, Bartolo Colon and Jerry Manuel were handed suspensions by major league baseball on Wednesday. Last Thursday, May 15 against the Orioles at U.S. Cellular Field, Colon was ejected after hitting Jerry Hairston in the ninth, one inning after a warning was issued when Jorge Julio hit Magglio Ordonez in the back with a fastball. Colon will be suspended for five games, which will cause him to miss his next start against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Manuel recieved a one game suspension and will serve it on Friday, opening game against the Tigers.

you are 100% right, it should be deleted, but we aren't them, who are afraid of posts like this for some reason. BigHurt, I have no idea why you would even post this, especially considering you've posted here fewer than a lot of people. like you are doing people a favor.

that is why you build a team through the bullpen first.

SN Report: Sox Name Greg Walker Hitting Coach By Mario Scalise May 19, 2003 SoxNet.net (SN Report #496) - The White Sox on Monday announced the promotion of triple-A hitting coach Greg Walker to the big league club, replacing Gary Ward, who was fired Sunday. Ward, who was considered part of the blame to the Sox' early struggles offensively, making them 12th in the AL in both runs (173) and batting average (.249), was fired after Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Twins. Walker, 43, was a former White Sox first baseman who had a career .260 batting average, and drove in 444 RBIs, while hitting 113 homers. Down in Charlotte, he helped the Knights to a league-leading .285 batting average this season.

well, I think I did, at least I tried too, lol. yeah, I'm pretty sure I did. sorry I didn't react sooner.

it is never IF an error leads to run. just because his mistakes don't cost us doesn't take away from the point that he makes mistakes. even so, it leads to extra batters and more pitches, which is why he's been a problem. but as of now, we don't have a better option, so we have to stick with Valentin.

from what I understand you can delete and edit posts, but that isn't enouraged here. -
my real name is Mario and since I worked in a restaurant for a few years (from 13-19), someone started calling me Molto, as in Molto Mario. my name before this was rio255, RIO coming from maRIO and 255 being my highest bowling game at the time.

I will say this about Miles. I saw him in spring training and the guy impressed me. he knows how to handle the bat, has great hustle, and good speed, stuff this team neads. BUT, the deeper he got into spring training, the weaker he became. if there were a way Jimenez could play short instead of Valentin, I would LOVE to have Miles up here, but there is NO WAY in hell Miles takes Jimenez job at second. he may have hustle and speed, but he's not Jimenez. Jimenez has been around the majors, and although this is the first time he's really show his potential, he's produced, unlike Miles who has never played here. you bring up Miles, means you dump Jimenez. Miles struggles and you got another HUGE hole at second base. I don't know how some can honestly think this would be a good move. A guy does good, so release him or not start him because there is a guy below who is old and has never played in the majors before, that isn't smart baseball. I like Miles and if there was a way we can play him, I'd be all for it, but he isn't that good to the point where we bench Jimenez, arguably our best hitter up to this point.

not to say the O's are great, but Helling and Ponson are solid pitchers and we were shutdown by worse pitchers then them this year, so in a way, you can say the offense is coming around. we face the Twins this week, STARTING TODAY (CAN'T WAIT). if our offense is back, they should show it this series.
-
yeah, you are right, I've been thinking Lohse was going in game one with Radke going in game three for the last few days, even though I know it is the other way around, lol. thanks for the heads up.

i think its about time we lay off jerry manuel

there are two ways to look at a move, how looks at the time and how it looks in the end. the David Wells trade, although I was a HUGE fan of Siro, was good at the time, but was bad in the end. Williams hasn't be a great GM, but he's been pretty good considering how aggressive he's been and the fact that he's made some good trades. I look at it this way, the man we had before him (schueler) would've never given the Sox a chance to really contend like KW has. Schueler would've just kept going for prospects, while KW has taken chances and put a strong team on the field. the problems with KW is that... #1-when he doesn't base players value on the market, but his/Sox' scouts eyes. #2-he looks to have a ego problem and doesn't appear to be well liked by the players. -
Garciaparra makes 20-25 errors (still less than Valentin) and has a career .325 average and is a 100 RBI a year guy. 20 errors with those numbers offensively is acceptable, 30 errors with Valentin's numbers offensively isn't.
