It makes me wonder if Machado knows what the Sox will do if he were to get signed. More moves must be coming if he gets signed. MLB free agency is going to be busy once one of or both of the whales sign.

If they miss out on Machado and Harper, sign relievers and starting pitchers to fill out the roster and try to flip for prospects at the deadline or see if they can be a part of the 25 man roster when it is time to compete. Consider Moustakas if Abreu or Alonso get moved and sign him to a two year deal. Prepare to go and get Arenado next offseason and throw cash at him if he is worth it. Continue with the rebuild.

A negotiation for taking on his contract in addition to prospects?

I think we are both on the same page, I am not suggesting I would want Encarnacion at third, the move just doesn’t make sense. As annoying as it would be to have Yolmer at third against would make sense until they bring in Arenado or some other stud to play.

An announcement and some clarification on what they are planning to do. I am beyond confused by the Encarnacion rumors other than it wouldn’t take much to get him and he could hold down third base for a year. Jose Martinez would make sense if one of or both Alonso and Abreu were sent packing. I don’t understand what the plan is and time is going to tell. I think Machado is as good as a Yankee and would put money on it if I bet.

I hope that is the case, especially for the remaining free agents - Moustakas and Pollock to name a few.

One would hope they would have learned from their ignorance. Tatis Jr. would agree.

I wonder if their tune changed because of Kopech getting hurt and if that impacted either whale’s decision not to come here.

Then the Alonso trade doesn’t make much sense then and I was one of the people that said it had nothing to do with Machado. It did, unless they are going to move Abreu. I don’t want them to save face, I want the long term holes the Sox have filled and I want to see a stud play for this team instead of mediocrity we have seen over the years. Filling third base with someone other than Yolmer Sanchez would have been huge. I thought Machado would be a natural for here, whereas Harper might not be since there are a plethora of outfielders in the minor leagues. I would like to see a starting pitcher be signed in free agency over the next year or so, a third baseman like Arenado be signed or acquired and more pieces to be added. I am all for the rebuild but I want to see pieces that supplement the rebuild and I have not seen that yet. I do not want to just see bad contracts taken on without much gain in terms of prospects. Hopefully it happens next offseason.

If their rebuild sucks, fails and nobody wants to come here then screw them. Homegrown talent needs to pan out at high rates for the rebuild to matter, especially if players don’t come here.

I will be more pissed that management didn’t have a good plan B if the whales weren’t going to sign.

Screw them if they do think the acquisitions they have made or Encarnacion are acceptable big acquisitions this offseason.

Where is that string of iPhone text messages showing that when you need it? Like Clark’s tweet, they had a chance at being right. Theories can always be thrown out there when there’s nothing out there to prove anything.

I can’t wait for January to end so that winter is closer to being over, Harper and Machado will have signed somewhere and the roster takes place. Rumors without tweets need more color to them.
