White Sox Hiring for Analytics Department
The Beast replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m in a data science program and I will say that having knowledge of SQL, R, Python, statistics and the data mining process will help get a leg up on the competition. Rarely is someone good at everything and it takes a team to come up with insights from the data. -
Official 2018-19 NFL Thread

We have to hope that Trubisky develops as a passer if he is to be the long term Bears quarterback. If his legs give out as he gets older, he might be one dimensional. Trubisky getting popped and having his ACL torn or getting concussions are my biggest concerns. -
I hope she doesn’t run again, there’s no point. Put Biden, Harris or my pipe dream of Kasich and Hickenlooper our there. Realistically though I bet an aged Trump gets a second term unless we face a recession or the middle class doesn’t see the value in him like they did in 2016. Voters might have a different perspective if Clinton isn’t around though.

I’m not surprised that the Senate went towards the GOP after Kavanaugh’s nomination. Casten looks to be unseating Roskam. Suburban voters seem to be rejecting Trump in the Midwest. A blue wave in the house but interesting gubernatorial outcomes. At least I feel like I have more representation even if Rauner lost.
-
Oh, gotcha. Yeah, Braun is already in the lead but I have no idea what precincts are reporting and 10% of precincts are reporting.
-
I’m confused.

I split my ticket this year. I can’t stand Madigan and don’t trust Pritzker, but I didnt care for everything Rauner did either. I ended up voting for Rauner because I’m a new homeowner and am worried about my property taxes, hoping they can remain frozen. I will be interested to see if David Olsen gets re-elected tonight and if Sean Casten can unseat Peter Roskam, a seat that has been held by republicans since the 70s. I am hopeful that FiveThirtyEight’s models are correct and democrats will take over the house and minimize the damage in the Senate. It sounds like Hietkamp will lose in ND, it will be a close race in MO and the democrats have a good chance of winning in Arizona. I am a little concerned that the house won’t fall with as big of a majority to the democrats and don’t feel positive that they will win key governor races - Gillum and Abrams for instance. I hope Casten wins since I campaigned for him, but it depends on how riled up the democratic base is, how many women (regardless of party) voted for him and the turnout to counter Roskam. FiveThirtyEight said it was a toss up so we will see what happens. Hopefully they get the house majority tonight and I don’t wake up on Thursday feeling the way I did the Wednesday after in 2016.

I disagree. There are those who want to talk politics and the forum was a good place to learn from the other side, from different sources and get some perspective. I can’t get into conversation outside of my family and friends and I can’t talk about it at work since that’s frowned upon. Doing so online with those from different backgrounds is not harmful and could be beneficial. It needs to be monitored a bit, but a discussion on policy and sources is healthy. Blowhards who shove their views down others’ throats is a different story.
-
This is exactly what needed to occur. I don’t think conservatives are any of those things and don’t think liberals need to be labeled either. Talk policy instead and clear up crap instead of people being jackasses to each other.

Maybe so but it is not impossible to have a substantive debate. I truly am curious if it would be possible to have the Fillibuster come back and have people debate the issues, not the party. Discussions on local issues and the midterms mean more than if Trump took a dump outside the White House. I hope the team here reconsiders this decision and comes up with some new rules for posting politically. The Fillibuster was more tame than Facebook and had a lot more intelligent conversation than I think people gave it credit for.
-
670 the Score and the Chicago Tribune neutered any political conversation over the airwaves and in the comments section. I think that I do agree that the administration and our fearless leader wants it that way, just like the media outlets do.
-
This is disappointing. I learned a lot about politics and both sides from this board, since Facebook and social media is so nasty compared to the civility I usually see here. It’s too bad that people attacking others couldn’t get a slap on the wrist as opposed to the whole board being shut down. I was glad to get insights from different sources I wouldn’t have seen otherwise and was glad to discuss local politics with some of you as well. All I hope for is that eventually, we will be stronger as a nation when a sense of normalcy is restored and we can move forward unified together as one nation. I’ll check back when there is something newsworthy with the White Sox.

Is this cause for concern? http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-stock-market-falls-20181010-story.html

My brother is a PT. Too bad I wasn’t on the normal science/math track in high school since I might have enjoyed Anatomy and Physiology and perhaps Physics. I didn’t care much for Chemistry (I got a C when I took it) and I don’t remember Biology. Not sure how much chemistry is needed in a PT program but doing a job where you can be on your feet all day and help people sure sounds good! I’ve got responsibilities now with a house and wife, but maybe when my job gets automated or if I fail at Data Science maybe I will check out Health Care careers again.
-
It was useful, if I actually liked literature and not just newspapers.
-
Just curious, did you have great math skills growing up and just majored in journalism? I decided against journalism for fear that I wouldn’t get a good job and because I could still write as a business major. I would be curious to hear what you would have done otherwise knowing what you know know then and would be curious about what you and others think about your last sentence.
-
Yeah, I can’t buy that either. I originally went to school to be a high school English teacher and wound up with a business degree and work in insurance. Before all of my responsibilities happened, I wish I would have become something useful, like a Physical Therapist or a Nurse.

McConnell’s action in 2016 is mostly was is upsetting to me about the whole thing, in addition to the limited FBI investigation. I do wish to know what the constitution actually says about the senate’s obligation to confirm Supreme Court Justices though. That has been hard for me to find online.
-
What is the likelihood that the changes you have suggested would occur? Would a constitutional amendment need to be voted on to change the lifelong sentences?
-
He at least was the wildcard. I don’t see Bart as the wildcard now, he’s reliably conservative. I’d love to see Roberts be the median vote but I will beliebe it when I see it. Hopefully the democrats win the presidency in 2020 so they can let the older justices retire and get replaced with younger justices. I’m not counting on it though. And I don’t know that these lifetime appointments are fair, either.
-
I hate doing it since I have obligations but sometimes you have to do things like canvass to try and change things. I hope his base shrinks significantly going forward, in particular the voters who aren’t the ones that attend his rallies.
-
How will Kavanaugh be the swing vote like Kennedy was? If you mean he is the ninth vote, okay, but if you mean he is a moderate like Kennedy was, I don’t see it.
-
Reviewing her record, she was probably going to be a yes all along. It’s too bad Murkowski couldn’t get her to vote with her and it’s too bad they couldn’t wait until tomorrow to just vote then. I’m concerned for women’s rights if Roe v Wade gets overturned. I’m also concerned about how the court will rule if Trump is impeached (I think they have a hand in it?) and I worry about the balance of the court with the liberal justices aging. It’s not necessarily fair that the courts are stacked with Trump nominees now, but that’s why the democrats need to win in 2020. I’m sick of the shit republicans have pulled since Trump got elected and can’t believe McConnell’s gambit in 2016 actually worked. The pendulum has to swing back to balance things.
-
She has to be gone if she votes yes. It would be awesome if she just announced “no” today. Then they would have to get Manchin on board. But the GOP are spineless, want their outrageous congressional salaries and pensions and there are no term limits to stop them. Collins can’t seriously believe that Kavanaugh would uphold a woman’s right to choose, would she?
