8/26 Mariners at White Sox
The Beast replied to Swingandalongonetoleft's topic in 2012 Season in Review
Looks like rain all day long. I might drive around to find free parking near the stadium so it only costs me the gas and ticket for today's game if it's cancelled. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) Got the job offer. Congratulations! Where at?

What baseball team do you hate the most?
The Beast replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hated Cleveland in the late 90s and early 00's. I couldnt stand the Twins when they were vying for first place and I now hate the Tigers the most. I don't hate the Cubs but I do hate their uneducated fans. Their educated baseball fans (>10% of them) I respect. But the rest of those clowns can go f*** themselves. I also hate ESPN and their lack of Midwest coverage. Yankees and Red Sox speculation is not news but Konerko's concussion is. -

Standing under the fan deck, outfield is closed off because of "lightning in the area." At least they let my suburban park against the wall in lot C to tailgate. I woulda flipped s*** if they didn't allow a truck to tailgate. No word on the start time, but the tarp is in the field. -

QUOTE (OldSmoky2 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Just checked and Weather Channel radar forecast has rain ending around the Cell about 7:30. Damn, and I've got to get up at 6 am. Looks like a naps in order for tomorrow. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) BTW, Ross, do you even give a s*** about anything or anyone other than yourself? Throughout this thread, you post these long, often pointless posts about your career and many of us try to give you some pointers because we are generally nice people. But I don't think you ever give a s*** about anyone else's situation other than your own, or if so, only insomuch as you can mine others for information on how to improve your own situation. Well, let me pass along some unsolicited advice: If you really don't give a s*** about anyone else other than yourself, or aren't at the very least, a LOT better at pretending you do than you currently are, you're not going to go anywhere far. I appreciate everyone's advice when people do post responses to my rants or posts about my "career." For people whose situations I am familiar with, I can offer advice. Since I am young, I probably couldn't help the older generation unless I researched something. The truth is that I do care about people and was curious about what he worked in. One of my great qualities that may not be displayed is that I empathize well with people and work with people my age to find solutions about their own paths. So while it may not be apparent here, I do care about other people and things. This just happens to be a thread I enjoy reading and commenting on when I get a spare minute.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) So I got a good response to my thank you, post interview letter. It basically ended with "I think you'll be hearing from me at the end of the week". Needless to say, I was feeling pretty good. This is a job that I really want and I truly feel it's a great career move, despite being all the way across the country. Now to confuse things for me, the president of the company I'm currently at sent me an e-mail saying he wants to discuss a significant adjustment to my compensation this week. I don't really want to stay though. I travel 40+ weeks a year and I don't want to keep working in television. I'm torn on how to handle it. I don't want to burn bridges or be disrespectful, nor do I want to hamper myself at my current job incase the new opportunity does not pan out. What do you do in tv that you travel 40+ weeks a year?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) So this begs the question: Ross, are you a really hot girl? If Facebook weren't in the mix and I didn't meet Cubssuck1 and Quickman in real life, then I might lie and act like I am. As I do not wear makeup, a bra, go spray tanning and look like the office slut, I am not. So no bartending job for me.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 11:50 PM) I've come to the conclusion that full time jobs are mythical and do not exist. They do exist but benefits and salary are not in our generations vocabulary. Found out the job I applied to is trying to hire for an office out of state. Going to keep looking and following up with this same organization I wrote to. In the back of my mind I am going to check out options for school that leads to employment (healthcare) since their programs last around a year or two. It's a complete 180 from where I am at but it might help me support myself faster than the current job I'm in. Wish you would have made it to the Score search event they had to find the next broadcaster, SoxFan1. Sounds like a great networking event even if you don't make it. Do you need a certificate or license to tend bar?
-
The other night I networked with an employee at the organization I am interviewing with. Although I just got that new job at the place I work at, I'd like to be paid a salary, learn a new job and start again somewhere new. I can't imagine the raises we would get would be that substantial if the startup hit it big.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) I may have missed it, but what is Liriano's contract situation? Free agent after the World Series. 2013's team is going to be interesting with lots of decisions to make. Peavy's option at $22 m, Youkilis at $13 m, Meyers at $3 m, and Liriano a free agent as well. Sounds like the Sox will have to win this year for any of those guys to come back. Is Hudson's option ripped up since he left San Diego? I'm not opposed to dealing Floyd if it comes with some prospects to refill the system. But that sort of deal would defeat the Liriano acquisition and the back up plan to start him in the 5 man rotation if Danks has surgery. Bottom line, the White Sox are all in this year without worrying about repercussions for next year.

I went last night because there were half priced codes available and Quintana was pitching.

Hope they get the game in, doesn't look like rain tonight. And beat the Twins since I'll be there tonight!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Why wouldn't they just make you punch a time card? How ridiculous. I have no idea. Some days I even wonder if the paid 15 minute breaks we get include bathroom breaks. Those are the only breaks I take since I don't smoke or screw around. I go work and come home.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) My internship is done in September. Started to get very concerned about what happens after that. What is your concern? Sounded like you got some good work experience and have some good options out there.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) They are keeping track of hours by looking at the security camera? Jeesh, what is wrong with these fools. Originally we clocked in, got a half an hour for lunch and two paid 15 minute breaks. Now they are switching over to a computer log in for our time worked but it isn't developed yet so I am going to keep track of hours in a book and excel document.
-
I should clarify a few things. They aren't paying overtime to some salaried employees who work under the threshold for OT pay. A minimum wage employee works 60 hours a week and doesn't get OT. I realize what G&T said originally but wasn't sure if there were exemptions for minimum wage employees. Paychecks are pushed back a month but are not skipped. So I just got the overtime I earned a month ago on the weekend. My concern now is that they got rid of the finger print system to keep track of time for lunches and how much you've worked. Now the HR person eyeballs how long you have worked based off the security cameras in the office until the admin system is developed. My paychecks always read 80 hours for two weeks and since we're a month behind I am "being paid" and having checks pushed back since overtime is packed in to the check somehow. The issue is I don't know how much I'm out for overtime or what I am owed. Maybe I need to start keeping track of my hours. I don't believe in the management but the product is cool. Unfortunately I don't love what I'm doing enough to keep working at an hourly rate and wouldn't mind taking the new job I suggested for a salary and benefits to start out. I don't know if I'd report a scenario like this, but that doesn't mean the guy I mentioned before wouldn't. I appreciate everyone's concern and sorry I couldn't reply sooner.

New job at the startup is going okay but I am going to keep looking outside of my field at some growing Chicago companies. Found one for a FMLA specialist, a bit of a change for me, but it's got a salary, benefits and nice hours. Looking to leave if we don't get paid for the hours we work over 40, which is actually happening...they say it's not illegal to not pay someone for any time worked over 40 hours (hourly wage if that makes a difference.)

How many people can we expect at the games this week? Ticketmaster was acting up today but I saw the seats and the lower deck bowl was mostly sold out. Point is maybe people are supporting even in the bad times and the reporters are all wrong about White Sox fans. Going on Tuesday to see Quintana pitch for the first time. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Ha, Veal sent down for Floyd. Is Septimo better than Veal? Maybe Septimo has no options remaining and Veal does. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) Funny that you think Pedro is the only pitcher we have to replace him. The AAA, AA and AAAA guys the White Sox have are not going to be better than Humber. The "savior" will be found outside of the organization to replace Humber. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Extremely impressed by Veal so far. Septimo definitely going to get sent down, it seems. Should have sent Septimo down instead of Axelrod, but Septimo is a reliever not a starter so that's probably why. -

QUOTE (Caesar @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) Jordan Danks is useless. Williams did a terrible job putting a bench together for this team. Better than the passive Fukudome who didn't do crap.
