GT: Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers
The Beast replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I'd like to see him hit over .200 with the White Sox. That's something I'd like from a big time FA who's hitting 3rd in the lineup. I would like to see him hit .240, whack 40 home runs and get 100+ RBIs. That's a pipe dream though. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Agreed For me, it was the lack of production in previous years. And the remaining duration of the deal is problematic. It's a fixed cost that could put a damper on future plans. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Since this thread is active, figured I'd get the most responses here: if you could amnesty one contract with the Sox right now, who would it be? With all of the strikeouts and lack of at bats that actively contribute something to the team (moving over runners, fly balls to tag up, doubles, singles, etc) Adam Dunn is my choice. Rios and his crappy contract a close second. No way he's worth that much money. -

Corpseball continues. Robin, how can your team expect to win when your starting pitcher gives up 6 runs and your hitters leave 5+ men on base? -
Did the White Sox release how much money they got with Myers or is that going to be based off of the PTBNL? Also is San Diego on the hook for Hudson's option and buyout in 2013? Just was putting together a year by year payroll from 2012 to 2016 and it looks like they'll have to eat $7 million in buyouts from guys like Youkilis and Peavy. If they exercised both of their options, gave the young players a raise and made no other moves the payroll would be close to $120 million. Seems like this is the year for the team to do this since it's tougher to see Peavy than Youkilis coming back next year at a reduced salary.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Well, I'm 100% sure KW talked to Gavin about him. ■11:$7M, 12:$11M, 13:$10M club option ($3M buyout) A commitment of $6.5-7 million dollars, with that buyout. One would think we didn't give up much at all to clear that buyout from their payroll obligations. So we have buyouts now for Peavy, Youkilis, Thornton and Myers now. That's like $6-$8 million in buyouts. Makes me wonder if they'll keep Youkilis and Peavy after declining both options. It's great that they got a veteran reliever, but I anticipate plenty of boos when he gets to the Cell.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Most people despise me, but please believe me when I humbly, truthfully state this fact: "I am not a troll." Go SOX! I would say outspoken. I'm the same as well. Too many stupid posts back in the day ruined my reputation but I still enjoy a good debate about this team when people have something to reply with.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) Really, I left WSI years ago because I replied to a post that I agreed with by saying "Amen brotha, preach it". I recieved a warning for being a religious zealot. Ha, I told a mod at WSI to go f*** himself since nobody else would. I recognize this post and although I don't post much, I love the debates or information when I need to check if a media outlet is reporting bulls***.

Time for MLB the Show. Who pitches tomorrow? Someone who isn't a damn rookie? If KW wants to win this thing he'll remedy this situation. Especially if Danks is out for longer than a few weeks.

Can you guys see the Sox targeting middle relief over starting pitchers? The bullpen seems to be spread thin and I cringe whenever Jones delivers a pitch. And who might be available?

So I didn't get the position at the place I interviewed as an SEO copywriter intern but last Friday, some magic happened at my current position. Our company is "like a family" and so we "pledged" what we could offer to the organization. My pledge listed my job responsibilities and I felt like a liar saying it. The next day, I met with HR for lunch and said I wasnt planning on doing media relations after my current position, and that the company deserved better when it got money. Since our copywriter left, they offered me a job to manage people, write site copy, be the liaison with upper management for the new PR firm I am recruiting, and learn what I would have learned at the other job. It's pretty much win win, but I do need a better paying job eventually to actually live.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 06:42 PM) I don't know if the Sox have this, but Royals had great fan promotion Friday night. One dollar hot dogs and small drinks. I think they do it every Friday during the summer. I'll take it. Delicious dogs. Guy I was with had four or five. I had 2. Nice to pay 2 bucks instead of 9 for 2 fricking hot dogs. White Sox have done dollar dog days but only ballpark franks. They had some deal on polish dogs too but I can't remember what it cost per dog. -
Reed is fine. What is not okay is having AAA Charlotte's bullpen out there. They need to get one veteran arm if we want to really contend for the division, pennant or whatever the team's realistic goal is.

Just got word that I have an interview tomorrow at 11:30 - looks like I'll be taking a short lunch and will be starving by the time 5 hits.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Where the heck have you guys been? poser fans I had a wedding on Saturday and fell asleep when I got home from work on Friday.

I had to look myself - Deuente Heath.

My employer wants me to stay later at the office, but still hasn't paid me for the last time I worked overtime. I just said no yesterday since I didn't know how long the trains ran. And I'm also not looking for a good reference from either of the co-founders...I have two people there that can vouch for me. On the bright side a recruiter at a company wants to interview me to be an SEO copywriter and I applied for two higher education jobs the other day. So there's some traction in my job search!

Can the White Sox surpass KC and save ourselves the embarrassment of finishing behind them in attendance? Is it impossible for the White Sox to draw 25,000-30,000 on average?
-
Is O-Dawg gone and is Youkilis leaving at the end of the season? Yes, I am aware of the option and buyout he has.
-
Wait are we paying $5.5 million of his salary? Chris Rongey just said so. Thought I read $2 million here.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again
The Beast replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know how you all feel but it was so nice having 30,000 in the stands. The Brewers fans were even educated on the game of baseball which made for an interesting night. Lots of drunk people in my section which was cool but there were two creepy guidos wearing white tees that were obnoxious. -
Let's hope Axelrod doesn't implode tonight. Keep it to 3 runs or fewer and get 6 IP in. Then win the damn game.

I had a review three months after I was hired and was told I would be getting a raise then. It didn't happen then and the CEO said it would be happening "soon." The wage I make for the work I do is not fair - even the woman I interned for at the agency said I should be making plenty more and she owns her own business. This has nothing to do with an incentive other than them holding true to their word, especially since many people are barely making a living as I have mentioned while others are moving up. It's hard for a customer service rep or person in my "department" (it's only me) to move up when you aren't making them any money like the sales reps are. This company just fired an expecting father and reduced the hours of a senior writer. I am glad to be employed but as I have said before, I am seeking more fulfillment and something more stable (and where I can get paid instead of payment being deferred). That's why I am saying even with funding, I am thinking it's time to move on elsewhere since I don't see my job being my career. The generation Y comment was not thought out well. I don't believe I am entitled to anything, but I do feel confident I could go elsewhere and get a job with a salary and benefits. Hopefully this clarifies things a bit.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) Hmmm. A case of hand me something because I have a degree and I really don't want to put the time in to earn something... Got it. No, I worked to get a degree and I am working to find a job that suits me. I am just saying that A. I go and work each morning and know I don't want to advance and make my career PR and B. how many graduates are working for pennies at a startup as opposed to getting a salary elsewhere? and C. You don't just make promises to your employees to make them work hard and then have them end up not be rewarded. I'm raising a point about empty promises, but I guess it doesn't matter what anyone from generation Y says. It's just shut up, work, make money and if you're fulfilled, then that's fantastic.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 11:18 AM) Wait, you think you are going to get a raise because your company made money? Were you directly involved in this 10 million dollar deal(ie. are you getting incentive for the deal?) If not, I need to talk to JPMorgan Chase about me getting a raise. They made like 2 billion since I started working there It's a startup that I work for. We were "promised" a raise or something when they got money. Sure, most of it will go to advertising and hiring new developers, but when the customer service team is making minimum wage and the senior writer and myself could make more working at retail, something is wrong. And if you have been following the thread, I said their payroll is a month behind, which they won't immediately pay out. So along with how management plays favorites (giving a relationship management girl a raise twice in one year) and the rest of these reasons, this is why I wouldn't stay. There's someone out there who would pay me $30,000 a year somewhere.
