Found this to be interesting. So the Bulls did not have to pay him $16 million this year, but instead about $10 million to recover and sit on the bench? This makes me wonder what happens in major league baseball when a pitcher hurts his pitching arm (Floyd or Kevin Brown). Is the team on the hook for the full amount of a player's salary?

Game Thread - 4/22 @ 7:10 PM Tribe vs. Sox
The Beast replied to hogan873's topic in 2013 Season in Review
Corpseball at home and on the road. I'm starting to wonder if sparse crowds and a long year is what is in store. Yet I still have tickets for Thursday and Friday to celebrate my birthday. -
Found a good article that I actually replied to last year and heard back from the reporter who is also a White Sox fan. Lots of good facts there. I can't say that after six games that the sky is falling and that this is a good sample size for one full season. In February, I remembered seeing a story indicating an increase in projected attendance. With the decrease in parking costs, the decrease in ticket prices and the fact that they very well could be an improved team despite the loss of AJP, I doubt they will have a decline in attendance. That said, it is really cool when there are 25-30K in the stands cheering them on and not a bunch of empty seats on the lower level. I concede the upper deck will never be full but it does help when the lower bowl is full. I am convinced that while the White Sox are the second team in terms of attendance, that as the area develops and the team wins, more fans will come out. However, I do not see 30,000+ coming out on a consistent basis, nor should we expect such crowds...unless we see a change this summer with all of the price implementation. That said I just moved downtown to Buena Park and can't wait to get some cheap tickets on Stubhub to watch one of the games in the Twins series and the game against Tampa that is on my birthday.

I had every intention on going to opening day but couldn't because we were moving in to our apartment later in the afternoon in Buena Park. I can't take off during the afternoon to go to the games and I was setting up for our party on Saturday. Then today was the hangover and clean up. So I have every intention of going to the park on the weekend of April 19, and on my birthday the following week. The attendance will pick up, there's no question.

I administer FMLA (12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave) for an assortment of clients. This means answering calls, processing voicemails, emails and leaves made on the internet. It's always a good day when an employee calls me and leaves satisfied instead of angry at me because the doctor's office didn't fill out paperwork. Basically if the doctor doesn't complete the paperwork and doesn't get it back to us within 15 days, the employee is screwed. Unfortunately, they don't take ownership for this. This is the best job I have had since college, even over the internship with the St. Louis Rams. Probably because I'm not selling anything. I also get to volunteer on a local political campaign on the weekends and my candidate is about to win one of three spots on our local village council. It's pretty cool, even if I am a moderate Democrat working for a moderate Republican. (How is that for bipartisanship?) Anyway, got a compliment from my boss for processing over 80 emails for part of Friday and all of Sunday. And the best part is that I'm off today getting ready to move to my new apartment in Buena Park.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 20, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) More than likely, from LF (Viciedo, although he could also move to 1B) or it would have to be one of the 3 infield positions. Sanchez isn't going to give you much power, no matter where he ends up playing on the IF. And there aren't a whole lot of LH hitting 3B on the market these days. 2B is the other place one could look, depending on what happens with Beckham, as it's not easy to find a LH power hitting catcher either. Okay, and are people looking for a free agent to play left field, or are people looking for Hahn to make a trade to fill this left handed bat role? (Like a Lofton signing that one Sox Fest)
-
Just curious, but what position would the left handed bat that people are seeking play for the Sox?

Did anyone look into the fact that Emery mentioned he would promote one of the assistants to head coach? Was he hopefully just talking about Dave Toub? My guess if the new coach comes in lots of the coaches under contract will be let go or demoted. Mike McCoy and Bruce Arians are at the top of my list, but I have a feeling Emery has a guy in mind that he'd like to see coach the Bears and I hope to god it isn't Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher. It doesn't matter as much who the head coach is as it is who the offensive coordinator is -- unless he does both like the GB coach does. Draft some lineman, replace Urlacher with a new linebacker and let's get moving in 2013. I can't see this being a complete rebuilding year.
-
Okay, so AJ is gone. Now the pressure is on Flowers to be consistent and actually throw runners out at second. Hopefully Hector Gimenez isn't the backup catcher. Also, just because the Sox let AJ go doesn't mean they have $7.5 million to spend on someone else.

When I was in 4th grade I went to the Sox game with a friend and found out about the White Sox. I had quit baseball as a kid and began t umpire after I saw a Sox Yankees game. My dad was a Sox fan but we didn't ever speak of sports because I "hated baseball." We sat three rows behind the plate after buying tickets from a scalper on the third game in 1999 and I fell in love with the team. My dad said later that if I was a Cubs fan, I'd be living on the street and he'd question my sexuality. Since then, our entire family knows about the team and have become huge fans. It's funny how things you hate turn into things you love and brings you closer to your family.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) Some things you just have to accept on faith. The Chicago sports media is by and large either spineless in their reporting (don't want offend anyone and lose them) or 100% agenda based. With this in mind, you have been here long enough to know that people here do have an ear inside of the organization which fills in that void. If certain people are saying that Youk was an ass, I have no reason to not believe them. You won't see it in an official news article until after he signs somewhere else. It was the same with Ozzie. I'll wait for that official news article then. Some people do have an ear inside the organization, but there have been times that some people have been very wrong. This isn't to say that I am completely denying Youkilis is an ass, though. Can you enlighten me on Headley? How did the organization get tied to wanting him? Or was that speculation on our part?
-
QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 06:58 AM) So which is it? I've heard here at Soxtalk that Youkilis was not popular in the clubhouse. Are there any documented reports that he wasn't liked, or is this just speculation? Given that this hasn't been brought up in a week and the post was drowned out, my guess is it is pure soxtalk speculation painting a point that he wouldn't be welcomed back to this organization. Once people start to see that the Royals won't trade Moustakas and San Diego won't trade Headley (how did he get on the White Sox radar?), they'll start giving Youkilis some love...or at least realize the Sox will be stuck with a lousy 3b while they groom someone in the minors.
-
No really Rick Hahn, you've truly outdone yourself with this move! 27 year old depth for the pen. Bad ERA last year, was better in previous years.
-
I want actual links showing how big of an arse Youkilis was. Also, saw the Moustakas wish lists on Facebook, why the hard on for this guy unless we dumped Floyd to get him?

QUOTE (champs2005 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) I hate Thunderstruck and most of the crap music they play during the game. So much of it is old and stale. And too loud as well. I say start fresh with the in-game music and tone it down. So what if some die-hards get offended. The Sox need to make NEW fans and all these tired old crap songs from the oldies bin are not appealing to new fans. Except for "Let's Go White Sox" by Captain Tubby of course. That is great! I happen to hate "Let's Go White Sox" and feel energized by "Thunderstruck." Everything else sucks. And no this will not help attendance it was just my suggestions. I have never felt the music is too loud, but I do think they need more common songs. Went to Cardinals games and even though I was down south, everyone liked Chicken Fried when Matt Holliday came up to the plate. I still do not understand the hate for Thunderstruck and why we should get rid of the current intro -- it's my favorite tradition at the stadium.
-
Get rid of the bands they have outside the main gate and the gate across the street. Unless the contract is huge, get rid of the guys offering vacations outside of the park. Leave the Pirates of the Carribean video at the beginning and keep "Thunderstruck." It's a little loud but that intro gets fans pumped up and on their feet before the game. Some of the promotions are crap during the game, and the handouts before the game aren't as worth it (save for the $1 off Aldi's milk).

Would you be interested in any health care careers? They are still thriving despite the legislation and some even only need an associate's degree. Just a thought.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) Lol theres not much life I can live right now with no job....Having weed in my system is a legit, albeit a dumb, excuse I have right now as far as a job goes and me going out and living life. Do you have a pair of running shoes? If you want to get in shape, I suggest running and walking if you can't run. I found running to be extremely therapeutic after my breakup. I also wrote in a journal that helped me get feelings out without telling everyone them. If you find a local free running club then you might be able to meet new people for free and have a little more social life. Just a suggestion if you can run pain free. I surprisingly did not have to pee in a cup at my new job. At my old job half the staff would not pass the drug test since they were all happy to be on pot.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) She was actually sick with a cold on our first date but still went out anyway. It got worse last night so I made her stay in while we did a corn maze because I didn't want her out in the cold, and I think she was resting instead of coming out for drinks later. I'm gonna go see her in a bit and make her get up out of bed. Or I can climb into bed. Either is honestly good with me. So you got her cold from a first date kiss, lost it before the second date and she was still sick? Smooth move ya bastard. I'll drink to your last sentence. In reference to the other poster, I wanted to let you know that I've been there. Dated a girl for 3 1/2 years and felt depressed, had thoughts of what the hell do I do since my first love left me and such...part of why you can't get your mind off her is because you probably have an idle mind. Exercising will help if you need to clear your head. There are plenty of women out there and once you are employed again, you should definitely go after one in your condo complex.

Are any of you concerned that revenue will tumble with the red line being worked on next summer? It's definitely going to complicate things for me to get down to the ballpark from the loop.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) Serious question here. $100+m payroll with prices where they are now, or $75 million with cheaper parking and top end tickets? Higher payroll with guys that don't have Adam Dunn's or Alex Rios' salary or duration of deals. Slightly OT, but the Sox really need to groom someone to play first when Paulie leaves/retires.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) Good for you. You sound like you're in a much better spot than you were a year or 2 ago, and you'll find the right one eventually. Wite, did you get a second date with the girl you had mentioned previously? The first date sounded like it went well.

I've been told my choice in women is pretty shallow but that I'm also a good guy. Not sure how that makes sense. Basically I'm 6'2 and 190 lbs and want a girl who will work out and take care of herself. She's also got to be outgoing, friendly, confident and not a valley girl. I'm not a blonde girl kind of guy and I have to trust her. I think what people think I demand is the whole "must have nice tits, flat stomach and be athletic and toned" look, which is sort of true, but not at the same time. Since I had a major breakup a few years ago, I tried to go to bars with friends without expectations and just see where things went. I found I couldn't pickup women there but I could at house parties. My senior year I had plenty of hookups (legendary trips to Bradley, ISU and Iowa had good results) and that continued into the summer when I found someone I actually liked. There was some initial attraction but she said there wasn't enough of a spark even if the sex was great. That lead to me being friend zoned and ultimately to Match.com. I've been on countless first dates (some good, some bad -- like a girl who got me in her car and hooked up with me there), met plenty of new people and even dated a girl for 3-4 months. It's the greatest place to find someone with the same interests, take them out on a date to see if they are compatible and the easiest way to get to know someone. It's a lot cheaper paying for a subscription for 3 months as opposed to going to the bar and buying a round for a girl and her friends, only to have them walk away from you. Still looking for a relationship but I am definitely trying to better myself (move out since I've gotten a new job, workout to stay healthy and try new things).
