QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) How is Dunn = Belle? Sorry, would you prefer someone else like Canseco or the Big Hurt (Skirt) in a bad year? Dunn is awful and I need someone equally as bad to make fun of him with. He's my target, Pierre is right behind him. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) I'd take a 50 HR season from Dunn, when will he do that? Never. We wasted an investment on a shmuck when we could have had someone who doesn't need a tennis racket to hit the damn ball. -

Two notes: Adam Dunn = Albert Belle The only way the Sox win tonight is if Marmol lays a goose egg. Let's see it happen. f***! I hate losing to the Cubs. -
Day 1 also went well. Lifted boxes, bonded with some guys from the office, had lunch with my boss and the other intern, took a tour and began working on qualitative research for our marketing presentation on the 22nd. I feel like I'm learning something which is good.
-
I also begin my first day of work at my internship in less than 45 minutes. I'm nervous but I am excited and ready to hit the ground running.

Hopefully it is okay that I resurrect this thread. I met a girl through a friend who goes to school with me...she goes to another school and is entering her senior year. I am now a graduate and am going to intern in St. Louis this summer. She and I began talking in early April and then met in May. We met in a variety of settings, with friends, alone and she came to stay with me for a few days for my 3 week summer session. She even went to a Sox game and wore our colors even if she's a Cubs fan at heart. When she came up to visit it was a lot of fun and lately it has been fun, just a bit slow to get to know her because she's slightly less outgoing than I am. The problem lies in that I haven't hung with her extensively, she's still a bit shy around me and I am leaving for St. Louis in a week so I won't see her for the whole summer. During the time I'm away I'm sure she and I will skype and continue texting/facebook chatting. And I might go down to visit her in the fall since I'll probably just be at home working at a part-time gig to make money while I find something full-time. I'd like to see where this goes and maybe make something of this. Someone said I should just keep it fun and not get serious. What would you do, keeping in mind that her college is about 2 1/2 hours away and she has a high interest level? Should I be prioritizing elsewhere and not focus on a relationship given the fact that I'm a recent college graduate looking to work on a career or at the very minimum, put some money in my bank account?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) I can't remember his real name right now, but he was a character to say the least. Now that was a dude that kept the mods and admins around here busy. I thought it was Doug but that's not right. That picture he posted of himself made me laugh my ass off though.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 20, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) IIRC it involved the evils thrills of drinking and the thrills evils of gaming. It escalated pretty quickly. Fixed. Nothing a good jager bomb can't fix!

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 20, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) The thread you started when you were in your first semester at college I'll always remember and laugh about What did I post then? Something about drinking and my ex-girlfriend? Sheesh. Ha, that changed. No, I was referring to a fart thread and something to do with swimming in gym class.

I am sure there were some 'classy' memories of the poster Wsc425 and BeastlyOrdonez30. Certainly I was a snot nosed HS freshman posting here at the age of 14/15 and had some pretty memorable threads. If I could go back in time and slap myself for what I did, I would. Do any of you remember the Old Roman around here? I think that was his name. His picture was a staple pic around here for awhile.

MuckFinnesota (BeastlyOrdonez30, The Beast, Wsc425). But the people that ignore have sound reasons...I can deliver an argument but I can't argue on their level for White Sox baseball. And clearly sometimes I get anxious in life and post random crap on the board that comes off as complaining. So for this, I apologize. Still, I enjoy reading what others have to say even if they would rather me shut my trap permanently.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Doors in sports are few and far between. Do you have any idea what the % chance is that if you are an excellent employee, it could turn into a full time gig at some point? It is a term internship? What hours would you work? Any way you could do something part time to have some money? How much would your parents help? Do you know anyone that may know anyone in St. Louis you could kind of live with for cheap? Maybe even another employee? That's been done before. Finances may make this impossible for you, but if it's not impossible, don't close the door on it. It could turn into an extended internship where I work in marketing during the season if I do a good job. I don't know if it is paid though. The hours worked are 8:30-5:30, Monday thru Friday with some weekend hours. They said that they are flexible in terms of letting people go to part-time jobs whether it is retail or serving if they need to. There might be a chance that I could land a place with a relative of a friend I know or a friend of my sister's that might house me for cheap. I'm just preparing to go into this endeavor without having much of a bank account even if I have graduation money. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) 1. You realistically have a very small window in your life to take this kind of job, and right now you're in it. As others have said, these chances just don't come around very often. 2. You are somehow who is all over the place in terms of what you want to do, but I know you have always wanted to work in sports. This opportunity will be a great way for you to get a better idea if working in sports is really for you. There are tons of people, including some on this site, that have taken jobs in sports similar to this one with the intention of working in sports for their entire life, and realize they hate it. Now is your time to figure this out. That's how I pictured this opportunity. I'm young, debt-free and without obligations. I should do it just because it is good experience and I would be working with a professional sports team. And yes, I need to figure out if this is truly an avenue for me to take as far as working in this as a career. Otherwise I think it is going to be best to work in something I can get a job in that aligns well with my skills and keeps me in Chicago.

I mentioned that I interviewed with the St. Louis Rams for a marketing internship over the phone, and they said they would get back to me Friday. I got a call back yesterday from the woman that interviewed me and she offered me the position. I have till Friday to accept the unpaid internship. Personally, I think it is great experience to be able to go and get experience, especially in this economy. I don't have much else in terms of work experience so this will be fitting. My concern is mostly financially based and that I would have trouble finding housing down in St. Louis. My family supports me over this although I have heard people say I shouldn't do it since it is far away and doing something without pay or college credit (since I am graduating) might be difficult.

What can you guys make of this facebook status progression? Dave (Bulls fan from Chicago, IL): "Lets go all you ban wagon heat n lebron fans" Joe (Lakers fan, LBJ lover from Bettendorf, IA): "omg! bandwagon? please, Chicago fans are bandwagon! lol! just look at all the blackhawk fans all of a sudden" Dave: "Blackhawks r not apart of chicago. Just like hockey is not n american sport" Joe: "ha tell that to all the chicago fans. After the NHL playoffs the Bulls increased their ticket prices and sales...hmmm" Dave: "Ur right. Or maybe it could b rose, boozer, n the revamped roster which got chicago fans excited and amped to see them play...Or the fact that the bulls have been on the rise the past 2 years. With last year being the rise of chicago'sbulls 1st all star which got the city excited for. But ur right its cus of the blackhawks winning the cup for increase n tick sales" Joe: "haha yeah right, chicago fans were too busy hating on Lebrons decision over the summer to care for Boozer. Rose is only averaging 4ppg and 1.5 apg more than last year, not THAT impressive. But yeah an MVP trophy makes a lot of people jump on your dick lol Where were they when he won rookie of the year? or took Boston to a 7 game series as the 7 seed?...nope, being #1 in the league is the main source...just like the blackhawks last year, smh" Dave: "Lol sorry maybe you should act watch bulls games n nkt rhe ones on tnt n espn" Joe: "LMAO! Are you s***ting me? have you forgotten Janko is my suitmate? LMAO!" Dave: "LMFAOO I did 4get. Stop blowing up this post trying to watch the game dammit lol" Joe: "lol aight enjoy bro" Joe is a known Chicago fan instigator, Lakers fan and LBJ blow-jobber. Is any of what he arguing true? Are Chicago fans truly fairweather and only go out in full force or care when they are winning?

If the Heat win the championship, it is pretty pathetic. Their bench isn't that deep and it just goes to show that you have to be the NYY of the NBA to align the "big three" to win.

Interviewed with the St. Louis Rams today for a summer marketing internship. I'm not sure if I got it but they sure sounded like they needed interns for the summer. Even if I don't get it that was good interviewing experience and at least I could say I got that far with a professional football team.

I take my only final tomorrow (Theology) before I finish my paper on Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead" and begin my 12-15 page strategic management paper detailing Groupon. Hopefully there's enough sources to use for that length, otherwise I'm going to be doing useless SWOT analyses to fill up space. Luckily I aced the rest of the course so if I bomb this, I still graduate. Then I have to take two courses in the summer (Beat Literature and Theology of Marriage - bulls*** courses) before working somewhere to get something on my resume and hopefully going to graduate school back at home. For PR at DePaul or something that teaches me skills that complement what I already know.

Mother f***ing b**** ass passionless White Sox.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 01:07 AM) Had 2 finals today. First was just to turn in a resume tape to my professor and have him critique it. He gave me a 9.2 out of 10 and told me that I'm going to make it as a broadcaster and that I get it. That was nice to hear from a 10 year CNN correspondent. Then had another broadcasting exam at 2. 80 questions, multiple choice, T/F and a couple matching. Finished it in about 9 minutes and aced it. Now I have to study for a Marketing Research exam (tomorrow at 2) as well as a Broadcast Seminar exam (tomorrow at 6) after watching the Hawks lose game 7 in OT. May or may not mail it in. Just out of curiosity, do you think Marketing Research gives individuals skills to use in the real world (as in Marketing Research jobs)? Often times I wondered if I should have studied Marketing instead of Management and wanted to know what you thought of the course.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) Am I the only one here that still thinks we get a W today? If they stop them here and put up 3 runs next inning, then I'm a believer. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) We hit great that game and Crain looked fantastic. That team played with a lot of confidence. Sure, before Thornton and Pierre's vaginas erupted in the ninth inning. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) Never heard one rumor about him being on steroids. Konerko and him are typically thought of as two of the cleanest players. Right now, he just can't hit the ball. He'll still end up with 35-40 homers and a lot of walks. I'll hold you to that statement (35-40 homers) and a ton of walks. Hopefully he gets 100 RBIs too. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) Way to run to the ball Rios. This might be the worst game of our season so far. No, the worst game was when they screwed it up against Tampa Bay and had five runs scored against them in the ninth to lose. Thank you Dunn for coming off of your steroids before joining this team. Overpaid.
