  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) No, its not information that is on ESPN insider. I dont think thats what you understand. Nobody is getting insider info from the internet. Fine, then how do we know that this information is credible? What posters are the ones with insider information? Till there is some evidence then I don't believe fathom that people would just yield this information to only certain members of soxtalk.com.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) Your top point is exactly why PM's are used alot of the time. This board gets national exposure at times when there is inside information, and some people dont want their sources outed. Then send a newsletter out to members of the community who desire to know this "insider information." If someone squeals throughout the organization, I doubt any of us would rat them out on it since it is good information for us. You know, most of this information is stuff that espn insider probably has, also. I heard this information from 670 earlier today. That's all.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) You have no idea about the inside information some people have on this board. I sure do know what inside information people have on this board. Most of it is crap. If they actually had something legit, they would share it publicly instead of just taking it to PMs. As far as AJ being a jack ass or cancer - whatever. You don't have to like who you work with, you just have to work with them for f***s sake. He does well in handling our pitchers and puts up decent offensive numbers. That's good enough for me. Some days he is one of the only ball players on our team that looks like he gives two s***s about what he does. And if the team had no money...why did the White Sox offer Victor Martinez that contract earlier today? Sounds like he isn't coming back according to NBC 5's interview with him, which is a shame. Hope we get screwed like we did with Thome and everyone cries about him when Flowers is catching next year. And then I'll say PROUDLY, "I told you so!!!" Lastly, I hate that quote: "I want to stay, but I realize this is a business." How about you as the athlete be a bit more straight forward with the stakeholders instead of feeding us the bull crap that your PR specialist told you to say.

Recently, I took State Farm's Sales and Leadership test and got a letter back saying that I'm not Sales material. I wasn't surprised - you expect a closet introvert to do Sales when he asks you what other positions are within your organization? I bet I'd be okay with doing that for a job since you are creating customer relationships with people and providing value for their lives. Also, I'm meeting with Northwestern Mutual for a preliminary interview in Gurnee when I return home for Thanksgiving Break. Not sure if I'll be all that interested but it would be great experience to interview with a second employer (I have previously interviewed with Hy-Vee). On the more exciting front, I'm trying to get an interview with the Lewis University Sports Information director for my HR Management class so that I go through the university's selection strategy and (with a hidden agenda) showcase my skill set for him since he might think that Business majors can't write well and wouldn't fit in a PR/Media Relations role. I'm excited, especially if I get the chance to interview with him - the sports information gig I have now allows me to produce what I believe to be good work and it would be ideal to enhance my skills further with an entry-level position in sports information. I have also thought about being an academic advisor or admissions counselor (or taking a university office job) to stay around the university setting so that I can get that sports information job and also take graduate courses to continue my education beyond May of 2011 when I'm set to graduate.
  6. What are your thoughts on what Obama said today? Is it possible for the two parties to work together or are we as Americans just going to see nothing get done over the next two years?
  7. Julius Caesar. (Ross, God of Sex). Or wearing a pimp hat with a suit. I don't know or care.
  8. Screw learning r&b and rap lyrics. Went to Iowa City last night and had good luck without knowing song lyrics. Boy does someone need to keep me off the dance floor, I am ass bad at dancing.
  9. Scenario: Dancing in a bar with a girl you are halfway interested in, she wants to start singing the song and gaze into your eyes as she does so. You don't know the words to any of the songs so you continue dancing anyway. She leaves you and then later on you find that she's connecting better with a guy that is looking back at her and singing it with her. What do you do for the future? Just dance and grind the whole night and don't ever look at her face?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) I want to try whatever works. I cannot leave my job since its very lucrative, but I want to further my education so make it into executive management someday or even just learn more about business so I can run my own successfully with confidence. Turns out my Psych degree with emphasis on child dev didnt really prepare me all that well. Does Loyola, Roosevelt or DePaul offer night classes or continuing education classes to get a certificate or Master's degree that would be conducive to your employment or family situation?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) What does that mean? I know you said previously you didn't think you would fit in sales, but PR is quite different... Would it be appropriate for a Business major with work experience in journalism to fit into PR? My written communication is great in a journalistic context and for class work, but I don't think I could think on my feet very well (though I am comfortable giving and writing speeches). However, I like what I see in the job profile. Excellent growth, despite keen competition - there's nothing that an internship or some continuing education classes can't do. Now if I could only get an internship with a sports organization doing something I'm good at - I'd be set. It seems like internships are really hard to come by. RockRaines - would you try a private school in the Chicagoland area? They might pay for it. Also, which MBA is best: Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Strategic Management?

Seeing as though people might view a Business degree from a liberal arts institution as weak, I may consider going to graduate school for the MBA or just go work at an entry-level job. I have no idea what I want to do for a living, and it is really competitive for even just a sports related internship. I impressed some people at the Quad Cities River Bandits, but I don't think that a bachelor's degree, work experience in sports communication and an internship will get me the job that I want. I couldn't do sales, it isn't in my personality either and I really don't know what I have to offer a company as some of the business courses are kind of bulls***, especially the ones about theory. Jobs I've considered are as follows: paralegal, random non-profit job, a management-trainee b**** at a car rental company, a technician in a hospital, a public relations specialist (which doesn't work well because of my personality) or really anything else. I'm open to a lot of options, I just don't know what to pursue and with the economy I'll just be happy to have a job.

  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Those who are single, remember the advice Alan Arkin gave in "Little Miss Sunshine." Which was what?
  15. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) That's what I was hinting at. In fact, no matter what, I wouldn't ever go looking for love. That's when it passes you up. Just let it naturally happen. What about checking out the parties, getting numbers and seeing if the girl is possible girlfriend material after hanging out?
  16. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Personally, when finding someone, it's best to go without a plan. You limit yourself if you say "I'm going to wait until I'm fully settled down." You miss out on life a ton by doing so, not just women. Rock said he would've grown apart from a woman he met when he was 22. While this can happen, you can also grow with someone. And most valuable, you end up learning more about yourself. Let me put it this way. I am looking for someone, and I do want to date. I've been told by some of my peers that it is better to just "let love come to you" instead of being single and looking for someone to have fun or enjoy yourself with, and possibly even making a relationship out of it. The problem is that at my school many of the girls are taken, and for SAU being as small at it is, that isn't a good thing. I know that if I waited to do something until I finally settled down, I wouldn't have inquired about NIU's Sports Management program or have had the balls to pursue something that I loved. And I wholeheartedly agree with yours and Rock's conclusions about what can happen with someone. I just haven't found someone like that to share my life with yet, and learn more about myself with.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) I have a question for those in college: when are you too old for freshman girls? I almost feel bad.....almost. I'm a 22-year-old senior and have found that I don't want to deal with stupid girls who are fresh out of high school. My age range is 19-24, and even 19 and 24 are pushing it. I really like to find someone who is close to my age and maturity. Even if the girl is willing to give it up at 18-19, it's still kind of weird. Especially when the drunken freshman says, "Do it without the condom, it feels better." That's what happened to my one friend. Then again, I know people date people older and younger when they get out in the real world. I also think college dating is sort of pointless, because everyone moves on after graduation. I'd rather save some money, get my s*** together, get my own place and then look for someone. That makes the most sense...and it gives you time to have fun while you do save. (Who said you couldn't use a hotel when you temporarily are living at home?)
  18. Single, being social, not getting any results, and hating it. Marriage doesn't seem realistic as I haven't met anyone worthy of an Mrs. degree yet. Too much trash on campus. But I think I'll likely get married in my later twenties anyway, so it doesn't matter at this point.
  19. 22 - I didn't enter college till I was 19, so I'm going to graduate when I'm 23, and I feel like the old guy on campus. So even though I transferred schools, it's amazing that I'll graduate one semester late after the expected four years.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) I thought his reaction was perfect. An announcer needs to freak out on such a s***ty call. Maybe it is Hawk's whiny ass voice that is annoying. God I wish I could get the radio announcers in sync with TV instead of Hawk. He is absolutely brutal. They got the call right, and Hawk changed his s*** filled diaper. Life went on. Jesus f***ing Christ.
  21. So what if they missed that call, Hawk. They got it right in the end. Everyone knew it was foul and it was going to be corrected, so why did you continuously cry until they got it right? Go put another diaper on you f***ing baby.
  22. I'm not a big fan of the home plate umpire, but the fact that the Sox can't get to Beckett is the reason they are losing this game. It could have been 6-2 right now.
  23. TV Broadcasting: The guy in charge of the control room (Jim Angio?) Radio Broadcasting: Producer of Rongey's show. White Sox behind-the-scenes job: Scott Reifert White Sox front office: Kenny Williams White Sox player: None of them. If I had the balls to go out and play, I'd be Buehrle. White Sox coach: Joey Cora
  24. Okay, so now that they have acquired him, what do we owe this fool and how does that impact the payroll next year?
