HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
The Beast replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) I love Kane the player, but as a person he's got some serious issues and nerve. I mean, this is the guy along with Toews who are being worshipped by thousands of youth hockey players in Chicago, Illinois and even the entire world. So what does he do? He gets wasted during the parade and keeps chugging beers down the whole time. Is it too much to ask for him to just not get wasted/drink while the kids are watching? I mean Toews was perfectly coherent, but Kane serious went overboard and made himself look like an idiot. Thank you! I was at the parade and I felt the exact same way. I was 40 yards (I stood right in front of the Fannie May store across the street from Corner Bakery.) from the stage and was watching Kane drink and drink like a damn fool in front of everyone. The speech he gave was ridiculous, and was a result of being intoxicated. He did look like an idiot, you weren't the only one who felt that way! -
Yes. f***ing kill the swear filter. For f***'s sake.

How does TCQ equate Carlos Quentin? Where does the "t" come from?

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) I love baseball and I hate umpires... but then again, 90% of people who have played at any level hate umpires, it's just the way it goes. Seriously, they made a movie about it called "Kill the Umpire." No offense to you, well, only when you put on that navy blue polo, lol. Sometimes, I really want to kill the manager and his incompetent fans. Or the fans at the Cell that yell "balk" when the pitcher clearly just disengages from the mound. Per the Chicago Tribune, Buehrle and Rogers said and wrote some things that I agree with wholeheartedly. "There are so many close calls in a game, so where do you draw the line? Buehrle asked. "Stolen bases, guys tagged out at home, so many plays at first base that are bang-bang plays, where do you draw the line? "The game is already long enough. … Anything that will make the game longer, no, I don't like it." "It's hard (to have more replays) because then what do we need to have the umpires for? We have to trust them, we have to respect them. We don't have to like them, but that's their job." --Mark Buehrle --Phil Rogers

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) You maybe the only one who has sympathy for the umpire. Ha Nope, I have sympathy for Joyce. I didn't for West, but Joyce just blew a call at the wrong time. It is the human element of the game that makes me love baseball, unlike football where you can get away with some bulls*** because of a replay. The day they start inserting instant replay in the MLB is the day that I want instant replay in little league, high school, college, and the minor leagues, or I will advocate for a system where there are no human umpires, and just a computer for the manager to beat the s*** out when he's either dead wrong or just being a f***ing son of a b****. Overturn the last out, and give Joyce props for admitting he had done something wrong, unlike that fat f*** West who just sat there and shot fighting words back at Buehrle and Guillen. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) Deeply hating specific teams is kind of pointless. Very 'look at me look what i'm doing' So to open up a new can of worms, we can't hate the Cubs or their fans? Their stupid fans really have issues with any negative comment that I direct towards them this year, and it is becoming ridiculous. I don't give two s***s about teams other than the White Sox, and I certainly don't think that Joyce should be suspended for this, just because of the high profile nature of this call that he blew at the wrong time. I am the first to say that while I don't love baseball, I am an umpire. An IHSA patched official, and each day, I learn something new about the game. So I suggest that Hawk (screw you Hawk, I can't stand your b****ing during the broadcasts) and the rest of those morons who b**** about balks at the game maybe read what the rules are in baseball or put the pads on and umpire a game yourself. Seriesly.

Anyone else a bit concerned with Peavy?

The only tattoo I would ever consider getting is a White Sox logo with 2005 written underneath it. Or something to that nature on the back of my leg.

QUOTE (chisoxt @ May 3, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) "A Royals Acquisition that May Make Sense" Could this be Herm Schneider project?? Two things. Pods for Pierre. Second, why do we as Sox fans believe that Cooper and Schneider or individuals on our staff can fix these fringe of MLB players?

I am going to raise the roof, flick off the crowd and do a little dance when I graduate. No seriously though, the thought that I have 1 1/2 years left of undergraduate work is liberating. Then if I decide to go to NIU for grad school, then I'll be happy that there is a fresh new start with more opportunities. Speaking of which, for those of you who are graduating, what lies next for you? Where would you go to grad school and what would you go to graduate school for? Are you going to use your degree? Move home? Are you going to move somewhere and take a job while living with random people? As I mentioned, I would likely go to Northern for grad school for a MS in Counseling Education or I'd pursue the dream and go for a MA in Sport Management. The nice thing about Northern is that I could commute from home and it is rather inexpensive to attend there as opposed to what I'm paying now.

I was considering UPS, does anyone know of the closest center to Downers Grove? I'll check the movie theaters and stuff again too.

College of DuPage should be a maximum two year institution, but should never be turned into a four year institution. It is a great investment for a year or two after high school, but that is about it.

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
The Beast replied to jasonxctf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder who all of the Pods supporters are here, as many of you seemingly have a hard on for Juan Pierre (.213 avg, .276 OBP, 1 RBI, 9 SB, 3 CS) over Scott Podsednik (.365 avg .429 obp, 8 RBI, 8 SB, 1 CS). -
I worked for the Morton Arboretum last summer and that was the best job ever. The only problem was that they couldn't afford to keep me on staff this year, so I might really enjoy working outside again this summer. Those hours might work, if they allow me to take the two courses I was planning on taking at the community college in the morning. Thanks for the idea.

What exactly is the study of management information systems? A friend of mine got his degree in that and I have no idea of what he does, other than the fact that he could do a lot of computer science related things as well as technical support (he fixed my computer and could potentially re-do the whole PC to the point where it was nearly new).

I am returning home for the summer and while I did my research and applied for ten summer jobs, I was unable to get any calls back in regards to jobs. I have two interviews with jobs at Bed Bath and Beyond and Finish Line but I was curious if any of you have heard of any places hiring in Lisle, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Naperville, Westmont or Woodridge. I am looking just to make some cash this summer and could just be looking for part-time employment to work nights and weekends throughout the week. I appreciate any suggestions, so far I have tried CVS, Bed Bath and Beyond, a few restaurants, Jewel, TCF Bank, Family Video, Finish line, Mongolian Barbeque, and Barnes and Noble.

Where do you all go to school and what are you majoring in?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) Wishing I had finals. No matter what you say in school about hating school and wanting the "real world" to begin, college is still way better. Even if you hate your classes, hate your roommate or whatever, you'll never have that freedom again where you go to class 2-3 hours a day and then can spend the rest of the day how you like it. I graduated in December and now my life from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (leave for work, work, come back from work) is all taken up. Then you eat and all you want to do in the evening is nothing. College rocks, and I was one of the ones who couldn't wait to get out. I guess what I feel horrible about is that this private school is costing my parents quite a bit of money to attend, and while I'm getting A's and B's in my classes, I am not doing well in math, which could prolong my graduation and put further financial strains on my parents. I just want to get the BA because in all honesty, I fear failure (as in not graduating after I have started so well). Also, if I go to grad school, I want to be able to do well on the GRE so that I can get into the field that I think would be worth my time and effort (Guidance Counseling), and I'll need some math to get there.

Last year I went to a game by myself and was able to get the tickets that I really wanted (against Baltimore last year) by sitting ten rows behind home plate. It was interesting to see a game that close, and I doubt that I would have gotten tickets that close if I had gone with someone else. (Since most of my friends are in college and don't have money for $50 seats.) It kind of sucked not knowing anyone but it just so turned out that someone next to me was from around the area, in college and didn't have anyone to go with. Nice kid, just a bit weird how he told me about his girlfriend and where he worked while going to school. Oh well. All in all I believe it is socially acceptable and that it takes balls to go somewhere by yourself, i.e. a movie or a baseball game.

I need 57 more points to get a B in my Accounting II class (talk about a mundane job), my History class is a joke (weekly online quizzes, if you show up to class you get maximum participation points and the exams are cake walks), my Management class is a doesn't give out many grades (I got a B+ on the midterm) and Marketing is a bunch of bull s*** too as the professor doesn't go over concepts before his gives examples about concepts. We have a group project due in two weeks along with a group paper (that I'll have to re-write on my own) and then a final exam. Though I know people in marketing and sales, I don't think I could do that for a living. That stuff would give me ulcers. The only class I'm really worried about is my math course because I have a 76 in the class and need a 65 to pass. I have my second exam today and I'm a bit nervous about it. So we'll see how I finish up the semester. If I could get 2 A's, 2 B's and 1 C (math) I would be thrilled. Then I could get through business stats and finance before graduating with a Business Management degree in December of 2011.

I got banned over there once after I had gotten suspended here. I don't even remember what I said, but they have some nazi moderators over there.

4/11 GT: Sox vs. Twins, Buehrle vs. Blackburn
The Beast replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Wait, was there two outs and Hardy got picked off while Thome was up to the plate? What was the situation? Thome gets a single, Hardy races around from first two third? If so that is retarded. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) If Pods hadn't had those 2-3 obvious baserunning gaffes that pissed everybody off, would we have done the right thing and signed him to a reasonable 2-year deal? Probably not, because everyone has some sort of Pods "hate," which means that he didn't deserve less money than Juan Pierre for his services. And then they say that the Sox don't need Jim Thome or Jermaine Dye back because Ozzie Guillen's small ball philosophy works, because they swear it.
