QUOTE(bear_brian @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) It seems like signing Dotel - and possibly signing Colon - give us more ammunition to swing a more major trade for a lead-off hitter, a centerfielder, or more pitching. Am thinking about one of the following: 1. Crede and MacDougal to the Brewers for Bill Hall 2. MacDougal, Aardsma, Richar, Floyd, Uribe and cash to Baltimore for Roberts and Bedard. Don't laugh - the Orioles have no shortstop, need bullpen arms, would love the PR from Floyd since he is an Annapolis native, and seem determined to chop payroll. 3. Matt Thornton and John Shelby for Coco Crisp (if the Santana deal does not happen). Red Sox don't need much, but could use another lefty out of the pen. Just some thoughts. We still need more pieces to contend ... If the Sox could pull any of these moves off, that would be sweet for us! I like the Dotel signing---now I say bring the butterball back. Join us, Bartolo!

I remember a few things about relief pitchers that were fringe in our system. Didn't Paniagua do something like flick off the crowd or something and IIRC, didn't Pena get threatened to be shot by a gunman if he hit another St. Louis Cardinal batter?

QUOTE(A's fan @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) I may get one Can you elaborate?

It would really make sense for the Sox to take a flier on Colon at the price Lieber is at. Isn't Colon younger and doesn't he have better numbers than Lieber? I may be wrong, but I'd gamble on Colon like the Cubs with Lieber.

Why all the hate for Graffanino, Gload and Perry?

I exercise 5 days a week for about an hour. I use the treadmill or run outside for 3 miles (usually around 20 minutes for the 3 miles), do 20 pushups, and 20 of the 4 types of sit-ups I do. Now, the common misconception is that you cross your arms or put your hands behind your head and go up to your knee. No, that is wrong. What I do is this: I put my hands near my ears and I kind of just squeeze my abs and go up a little bit, it shouldn't stress your back but it should be burning once you get going and you will be tired when you are done. I also then fold my legs over and do 20 to the right and left before I do a different kind of sit-up. This sit-up is where you start at the normal sit-up position and then you put your hands behind your ears, and go all the way up, turn to the left, then to the right and back down. As a college student, this helps keep the pounds down from all of the food I eat. I'm even a non-drinker and have gained weight while I've been away, but some of that is muscle, too. I try to eat a salad or some type of vegetable with my dinner, and I stay away from the pop and fried crap. I also limit the snacks I eat, and I always have breakfast; it truly is the best meal for you of the day.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) Are they ever gonna have an official press-confrence or I guess just wait until Soxfest to introduce him?? Are they ever going to officially announce the Ramirez signing? Is he on that list of numbers for White Sox players?

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) 2007 disaster team: Andy Gonzales, Darin Erstad, Scotty Pods, Ryan Bukvich, Luis Terrero, David Aardsma, Nick Masset, Andy Sisco, Mike Myers. Here's to me hoping that we'll never see any of these caliber players again. Although, I did like Aardsma at first and I still think Masset and Sisco might have something very small to offer.

I hold grudges against people, it's that simple. So lets see: Mark Johnson-sucked with the Sox and he's out of baseball. Why don't I like him? He refused to sign my baseball at Kid's Day. Jim Parque-We were asking for autographs after a game one day and we identified him near his car. His skank-face wife told him to sign but instead he just got in the car. It's a good thing he got roughed up in his start that day, we booed him the whole day. It was great. Todd Ritchie-It was one of those years when the Sox picked up some veteran pitcher to fill the void. What was his record? 5-18? I'm glad they shut him down for the rest of that season. Surprisingly, I have no problem with David Wells or Billy Koch. I was more nervous when Shingo came in than Koch. But I guess I get nervous no matter who is closing out the game.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Best post in the whole thread. Why waste a once a year chance to instead embarass yourself? If that's his big plan for Soxfest, he should just stay home. Read this once more. I am NOT going to SoxFest this year. I just thought I would bring up that list to see if anyone who was going would actually ask those questions. If I did go I would definitely put some sort of insult in because I am a frustrated fan who likes to bring fire to the table. -
If we cut Uribe in Spring Training, what would we have to pay him?

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) if it's for the vet min, maybe... but a blind man can see that Colon is done. Do you think the Sox might offer Colon an Esteban Loaiza-esque deal with escelators based on performance and appearances?

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) I've posted in other threads that I think an incentive laden deal would be fine with me. Low risk, high reward. I wouldn't mind having Bartolo on the team again. If he dominates and is on the money, look out. However, you mention an incentive laden deal. I'm curious---if they would give him an incentive laden deal, what would the deal be? Looks like he was paid 14 million bucks last year, so maybe if he proved the Sox he had something left, maybe they could give him 3 million for this year and up his salary with incentives. I'm thinking outloud here, but I don't know what reports say about his injuries, weight or how fast he's pitching, so I can't make a fair price for him.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) Anywho who asks some of those questions is wasting an opportunity to ask an actual question and pick the brain of some people with a ton of experience. The majority of those questions are just stupid. Oh yeah? I happen to think our GM is stupid. How about that? -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) I can understand not liking some of the moves. But you really aren't going to be taken seriously if you think "nothing else has happened". The team is dramatically different, and there will probably be multiple other moves yet to come before April 1st (like for Uribe, Crede, maybe others). I liked his moves and I have been around for them. I just think that there is more that should be done before Opening day. What will happen to Joe Crede? Juan Uribe? Our rotation? Things are still unresolved. Look, we had a lot of people who want to take shots at Kenny Williams in that thread. I was just seeing who would "have the balls" (for lack of a better phrase) to take shots at him. -

QUOTE(max power @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) He would definitely embarrass pretty much anyone here if they tried to contest their baseball knowledge with him. No, they probably wouldn't cry, but everyone would think them an idiot. I hope one of you dolts asks him some of those questions. Well, part of me hopes you realize you're far outmatched too. Outmatched by who? Some stupid old farts and some people who have to rag on somone for an unpopular opinion? Please. I hope someone rips him a new asshole. It would be so glorious. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Please. I bet KW could make you cry. Seriously. He reedemed himself a little more with the Swisher deal I'm sure KW could make me "cry." I would love to go at it with him in a war of words. I hope several Sox fans there ask difficult and smart questions to him just to embarass him. Yes, he made the Swisher deal, but nothing else has happened---yet. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Weeeeeeee salute you! If I was able to go and come home for this event, I would go and be brutal to Kenny Williams. To be honest, I'd rip him a new one and put on a show. by asking a question, getting back in line and humiliating him in the process. I'm not afraid of his "Stanford degree." -

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Sorry to be offtopic here, but I just noticed you were from Ann Arbor, are you a student or what? I thought I was the only Sox fan here! Ann Arbor is a whore.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Wait a second, so we cannot play him at first OR in Right Field? I guess you CAN play him, but no matter where he ends up (even as a bullpen catcher), he is absolutely brutal when it comes to defense to his left. He's also slower than a turtle.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) That would be excellent - great post. A lineup something like this would be pretty nice: Figgins, CF Cabrera, SS Thome, DH Dye, 1B Swisher, LF Fields, 3B Pierzynski, C Quentin, RF Richar, 2B That would be a HORRIBLE idea, putting Dye at first base. Have you seen him play in the outfield? When a ball is hit to his left, he is the slowest person to get it, and I doubt he can even throw a runner out anymore. Ugh, I'd rather put a mule in right field than put JD out there every day. He's a DH at best to me at this point. I just say keep Kong, and trade the "fat" of this team, such as Uribe and Crede. Sign a pitcher and then sign us up for the season. We'd be set.
