It’s personal for me even if I’m just someone who works from home. My wife is a teacher. My brother is a teacher. My twin sister is a teacher. For my wife and twin, the kids have gotten worse since they opened up the school again. Lots of disrespect and little accountability at the schools. One of my concerns is they will be in a lockdown situation or a live shooter situation and my worst fear is they will be shot or killed. Then I’ll have to raise my son as a single dad and lose one of my close siblings. The amount of mass shootings this year is alarming but even with new laws, I don’t know if that stops lone wolf shootings. I’d like an assault weapons ban, universal background checks and red flag laws, but I would like more security measures at schools. I wish that more could be done about random domestic terrorism incidents too, but it seems very difficult to stop everything, just like it’s difficult to stop the violence in Chicago.

The Chicago Tribune has consistently covered this story and the hosts on 670 the Score have talked about it quite a bit. If you grew up going to Bears games you would know what a pain it is to get to and from them after parking your car. It’s a loss for Chicago’s revenues, but this is something that is bound to happen so many people are indifferent or are happy about it. Some Arlington Heights residents are upset about it because they don’t want their town to turn into Wrigleyville and are worried about their tax bills getting hit, but their home valuations will rise. Tax plan proposal filed in Springfield that could aid Bears’ proposed Arlington Heights development Per the Chicago Tribune article: “Legislation was filed in Springfield on Monday that could help the Chicago Bears finance their proposed development in Arlington Heights by freezing the property tax assessment on the former Arlington International Racecourse property for up to 40 years. The plan, which would require the Bears to invest at least $500 million in converting the 326-acre site to a stadium and surrounding mixed-use development, has been floated for weeks and is being met with some skepticism, even from the state lawmaker who filed the legislation.” I discussed the bolded with two people at work who live in Illinois and they looked at me funny. Like why would the Jacksonville Jaguars want to come to Chicago and play in this cold and in Soldier Field. They didn’t think the town was large enough to have two football teams. My counter was Khan’s connection to Illinois, the fact that there will be a vacant stadium that he could upgrade and the fact that a team from Jacksonville could jump at the chance of being in the Chicago market.

So you rebuilt the defense, built up the trenches and signed a WR in free agency?
-
I know. You’re making a reasonable point. I’m talking about many of the people I’m reading comments for on the internet. Stupidity at its finest.

I would have to watch the tape. But my question to anyone who questions officiating remains, what makes for a poorly called game? Why is the fix in? If there is an opportunity after a missed call or bad call, shouldn’t the opposing team be able to overcome it and make a play to win? Did any bad call swing the game that badly? Yesterday’s missed call at the end of regulation hurt the Lakers, but one of their players hurt them more by getting t-ed up for harassing an official with a video recorder of the play. The Lakers couldn’t overcome the missed call and lost in overtime. It is also a dumb suggestion to fine officials for missed calls. They should be evaluated and rated. The ones with bad ratings shouldn’t get premier games and the ones with good ratings should be rewarded. That is accountability, not fines.

The NFC game sucked, but at least the AFC game was competitive. There was lots of chirping on social media about the officiating, but I don’t know that any call swung the outcome of these games. Even the one where the Chiefs got a second third down because of a clock issue (I think that is what happened).

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
The Beast replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As long as he didn’t do what Clevinger did, do it. Or bring in the other free agents out there to fill the void. -
Since this team is a dumpster fire, start Oscar Colás in right field almost every game and banish Eloy Jiménez to DH. Since this team is a dumpster fire, let someone from Soxtalk be the team’s GM at the trade deadline. Since this team is a dumpster fire, let Reinsdorf hand the team to his son and let him bring in new management, replacing KW and RH. Since this team is a dumpster fire, hire a high ranking scout or executive from the Rays, clean house and have that person run this team like the Rays so they might use analytics properly and be competitive on a budget.

White Sox share plans for new 500-level bars
The Beast replied to Bad Hombre's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m going to need those bars around to pay for cheap tickets to watch this team play. ? -
I thing trading down to the 4th pick with the Colts getting number one is the most ideal scenario. Houston and the Colts can take the QBs, Arizona takes Carter and the Bears take Anderson. Then they get a decent amount of picks. I don’t think they’ll double trade down unless some team is desperate and they are offered a haul. Agreed with the point on Carolina and needing to be in the top 15 next year, possibly with two picks.
-
Damn it feels good to be a GM. It’s hard to see, but I got two first round picks and a third round pick in 2024 and plugged a lot of holes. You can also get a first round pick for Fields using this simulator too.

This can be addicting.

Not a celebrity, but the oldest person in the world passed away. Sister André died at age 118.

I had the day off and got a workout in, the Christmas tree down, had a brunch with my wife and napped. I read some pieces on MLK related to Chicago. Nice work on the cooking and woodworking projects Texsox.

If I remember correctly, Lovie was on a short term deal anyway. I don’t see it written anywhere but he is in his mid 60s and at least he went out with a win.

My f*** cancer shirt

He also signed with the White Sox because they either had or were open to Gay Pride Night. He and his wife seem very charitable too. While he battles this awful disease, his presence will be missed from a leadership perspective. Cancer has touched most people’s lives and the players in MLB are no exception. I wish him the best in his battle with cancer and hope he closes it.

What if they let week 18 play out, then either push the playoffs back a week and then hold Bills and Bengals players out of the Pro Bowl? Or just not play the game depending on what happens this weekend with the KC and Buffalo games (if the top win percentage gets a bye)?

Thank you for posting and I hope for the best for Damar Hamlin.

You will hear that Fields needs to work on his passing from hosts on the Score, but does he truly need to do that if his receivers are trash and he has no time to throw? I would agree that maybe he needs work on his reads but without much to work with from his line and receiving crew, I don’t think we can fairly evaluate him. That being said, he does need to stop doing that thing where he gets out of the pocket and spins backward outside to try and make a play. Running for his life or not, teams will scout against that move. I would also like to throw Getsy under the bus for not throwing more balls to the middle of the field. If that is Fields not doing it then that is one thing, but it seems like when pass plays are called we almost never see a 5-15 yards and in thrown or caught by our receivers. They need to run Fields into the ground because he is on that rookie contract. If he fails, they need to draft another or sign another as competition for him. There are too many holes to draft one that high this year.
-
That would be very helpful, especially if Houston were to win. Watching the Bears today, it is clear they really need help on the defensive side of the ball. They can’t stop anyone and look incredibly weak. The offense at least shows signs of life even without receivers. You have to hope Fields is the guy when he gets receivers and an actual offensive line though.

Cool, thanks for filling me in. It would be something if they could trade the puck and still get a top d lineman in the first round.

Happy New Year from Central Time! As a 34 year old with a kid, my wife and I are comfy at home, but we had our fun years!
