  1. Hopefully he was one athlete that managed his money well and set himself up for life. What, this?
  2. I like that there is an emphasis on getting kids involved and connecting them to a teacher with a shared interest. Then a coach or club leader gets accountability out of their student athlete. What kinds of kids are the ones that the staff can’t connect with?
  3. What if online education isn’t for every kid? How would you start from scratch? Is being isolated from others the best thing for them at a K-12 age? I’m a little old school, but my dad made the point that education is needed to get a good job. Even if someone doesn’t need geometry for a future career, they need to take pre-reqs to get into programs and understand that what they learn today is what will help them meet educational demands of tomorrow. I always had a tough time understanding why so many kids talked during class and got away with it. I was in math and science classes that were lower level since I was misplaced. The kids that were in there were among the most disrespectful and were not willing to try to learn. I wish kids would understand school is not a happy hour and is their job. If they want to be social, join a club or sport or get it out in gym class instead of talking over the teacher in the classroom.
  4. Matt Nagy gets second stint as Chiefs' offensive coordinator
  5. Interesting. Could it be that teenagers don’t believe adults have some authority and that they don’t need to be held accountable? Did the lack of accountability from school during Covid make them think they could get away with bad behavior? Is it a new generation of parents and instead of parents blaming kids they blame the teachers for poor performance? Or is it being out of the classroom for that long that changed the world where kids care less about school, more about what they see on social media and don’t have the understanding that an education is needed to advance to college or a trade school to get a good job? It seems like some of these are possibilities.
  6. I think a double trade down in the first round could be a fun idea but also a bad idea. I would feel more comfortable with staying at number 1 or trading with the Colts and selecting Anderson or Carter than doing a double trade down for less blue chip caliber players or accumulate picks in the future and then be at the mercy of best available in the teens. I also want more of a balanced draft from both sides of the ball, but one thing that is missing from the mock drafts is what they will do in free agency. If they invest in defense in free agency then maybe they do what your awesome to watch idea suggests.
  7. I forgot about Cueto, but he was one of the other dudes who showed up last year.
  8. I’m a fan of bringing Andrus back since they didn’t spend money to go get Jean Segura. $3M is a bargain for Andrus, given what he did last year and his veteran presence to light some fire under some asses who really need it. I don’t see him getting DFA’d and am glad we have the depth when someone inevitably gets hurt. Andrus is one of the few guys on this team that I trust to show up and play, just like Hendriks and Abreu last year. For those who laughed at or bitched about the move, saying that this money shouldn’t have been spent, do you really think this money would have brought another impactful player right now and that this will stop them from adding mid year if the situation calls for it?
  9. The picks were what made that deal as bad as it was for Denver. The guaranteed money was bad, but the picks were worse. Maybe Payton can turn things around but I don’t know what kind of cap room they have since they really don’t have many picks.
  10. I would only listen to those guys if I knew they were having a Sox guest on since they get those interviews. Bernstein and Holmes is my favorite show followed up by Parkins and Spiegel. Each show has something I like and don’t like about them, but there are bright spots even if it isn’t the Score of old. Also apparently AM 1000 is bringing Mc, Jurko and Harry back to do a broadcast on 3/24. Mac said it on his Facebook, I thought it was cool.
  11. Detective John Munch (Richard Belzer) passed away.
  12. I’m still trying to understand what people believe should be done at the federal level as opposed to the state level. I know different agencies were deployed before FEMA. This is a major story but between finger pointing at Biden, DeWine and the railroad owners I don’t know who people are truly pissed at.
  13. Yeah I remember it all. He was going to get fired.
  14. I just didn’t understand the vitriol towards him, particularly on his way out in the last year. He made mistakes but he was far from the worst coach they ever had. I had more of an issue with players playing like s%*# and Ryan Pace than I did with Nagy.
  15. Bears fans who hate Matt Nagy - he might be the Chiefs offensive coordinator, even in name only. He also might take over for Reid when he retires.
  16. It’s personal for me even if I’m just someone who works from home. My wife is a teacher. My brother is a teacher. My twin sister is a teacher. For my wife and twin, the kids have gotten worse since they opened up the school again. Lots of disrespect and little accountability at the schools. One of my concerns is they will be in a lockdown situation or a live shooter situation and my worst fear is they will be shot or killed. Then I’ll have to raise my son as a single dad and lose one of my close siblings. The amount of mass shootings this year is alarming but even with new laws, I don’t know if that stops lone wolf shootings. I’d like an assault weapons ban, universal background checks and red flag laws, but I would like more security measures at schools. I wish that more could be done about random domestic terrorism incidents too, but it seems very difficult to stop everything, just like it’s difficult to stop the violence in Chicago.
  17. The Chicago Tribune has consistently covered this story and the hosts on 670 the Score have talked about it quite a bit. If you grew up going to Bears games you would know what a pain it is to get to and from them after parking your car. It’s a loss for Chicago’s revenues, but this is something that is bound to happen so many people are indifferent or are happy about it. Some Arlington Heights residents are upset about it because they don’t want their town to turn into Wrigleyville and are worried about their tax bills getting hit, but their home valuations will rise. Tax plan proposal filed in Springfield that could aid Bears’ proposed Arlington Heights development Per the Chicago Tribune article: “Legislation was filed in Springfield on Monday that could help the Chicago Bears finance their proposed development in Arlington Heights by freezing the property tax assessment on the former Arlington International Racecourse property for up to 40 years. The plan, which would require the Bears to invest at least $500 million in converting the 326-acre site to a stadium and surrounding mixed-use development, has been floated for weeks and is being met with some skepticism, even from the state lawmaker who filed the legislation.” I discussed the bolded with two people at work who live in Illinois and they looked at me funny. Like why would the Jacksonville Jaguars want to come to Chicago and play in this cold and in Soldier Field. They didn’t think the town was large enough to have two football teams. My counter was Khan’s connection to Illinois, the fact that there will be a vacant stadium that he could upgrade and the fact that a team from Jacksonville could jump at the chance of being in the Chicago market.
  18. So you rebuilt the defense, built up the trenches and signed a WR in free agency?
  19. I know. You’re making a reasonable point. I’m talking about many of the people I’m reading comments for on the internet. Stupidity at its finest.
  20. I would have to watch the tape. But my question to anyone who questions officiating remains, what makes for a poorly called game? Why is the fix in? If there is an opportunity after a missed call or bad call, shouldn’t the opposing team be able to overcome it and make a play to win? Did any bad call swing the game that badly? Yesterday’s missed call at the end of regulation hurt the Lakers, but one of their players hurt them more by getting t-ed up for harassing an official with a video recorder of the play. The Lakers couldn’t overcome the missed call and lost in overtime. It is also a dumb suggestion to fine officials for missed calls. They should be evaluated and rated. The ones with bad ratings shouldn’t get premier games and the ones with good ratings should be rewarded. That is accountability, not fines.
  21. The NFC game sucked, but at least the AFC game was competitive. There was lots of chirping on social media about the officiating, but I don’t know that any call swung the outcome of these games. Even the one where the Chiefs got a second third down because of a clock issue (I think that is what happened).
  22. As long as he didn’t do what Clevinger did, do it. Or bring in the other free agents out there to fill the void.
  23. Since this team is a dumpster fire, start Oscar Colás in right field almost every game and banish Eloy Jiménez to DH. Since this team is a dumpster fire, let someone from Soxtalk be the team’s GM at the trade deadline. Since this team is a dumpster fire, let Reinsdorf hand the team to his son and let him bring in new management, replacing KW and RH. Since this team is a dumpster fire, hire a high ranking scout or executive from the Rays, clean house and have that person run this team like the Rays so they might use analytics properly and be competitive on a budget.
  24. I’m going to need those bars around to pay for cheap tickets to watch this team play. ?
  25. I thing trading down to the 4th pick with the Colts getting number one is the most ideal scenario. Houston and the Colts can take the QBs, Arizona takes Carter and the Bears take Anderson. Then they get a decent amount of picks. I don’t think they’ll double trade down unless some team is desperate and they are offered a haul. Agreed with the point on Carolina and needing to be in the top 15 next year, possibly with two picks.
