Not a fun team to watch without Moncada, Lynn, Robert, Giolito, quality defense and clutch hitting. -

Book it. Maybe TA needs another game to sit out so he thinks through his shitty he and the team has looked. Whatever they had last year is not here. The division is better and this team looks like shit. -

Lol, what is happening? I don’t even know who to blame. They have dumb decisions on the diamond this year and in the dugout. They are not the team they had last year. -

Something just seems off with how they are playing. Inconsistent hitting, poor defense, decent pitching. -

Has anyone noticed the shaky defense, like even routine throws look hard for the infielders? -
A friend of mine who grew up umpiring with me is a freshman baseball coach in Plainfield. He was looking for umpires after having to cancel a game without having one. When I researched why there is a shortage of umpires, it started to make sense - the treatment of umpires, the low pay, the inconsistent training over time and the lack of respect for officials, who often get blamed for the outcome of games. Then another friend of mine came across this article, which has some recommendations that make sense to try and solve the issue of the treatment of umpires and the shortage of them. https://globalsportmatters.com/business/2022/04/15/abusive-behavior-driving-youth-sports-officials-away/ Has anyone noticed that the treatment of officials has gotten worse? Is this a problem in your area?

I tailgate outside and limit myself to a beer or drink and snack inside. I have snuck candy into the movie theater before and have brought pop or water. But I also catch the local historical theater in Downers Grove for movies to take advantage of a good deal there. I would consider myself thrifty, not a cheapskate. That’s what I am going to do, drink before I go in and either eat peanuts and pop when I get in or limit myself to nothing. Or I get the beer cost baked into the ticket price and drink if I feel like it. But there’s really no need to get hammered solely in the ballpark, that can run your wallet dry rather quickly. I’m curious who people blame for this problem since it clearly wasn’t just one administration, there are structural weaknesses that are non political.

Bleachers and Brews is a ticket worth looking into. $30 for a lower level seat in the outfield and two domestic beers. Tailgating makes a huge difference as long as it doesn’t take forever to get into a lot like it did last year and it is allowed in the lot. I am still trying to understand why it isn’t allowed in certain lots other than crowd control or JR wanting people to eat and drink inside the park.

How do we deal with India and China and their pollution?
-
I have read that the Keystone Pipeline would have taken years to produce oil production from and the common response I am seeing is that having the pipeline would influence future oil prices because it would impact the current price based off of future projections. I have also read that the pipeline’s production is less than 1% of production of the oil price. I am for in the short term, investing in off shore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. I am also okay with approaching some bad actors in the near term for fuel or using fracking too. But I am for adapting to the future now, meaning getting a hybrid or electric vehicle or trying solar panels. I think charging stations are definitely feasible if there were enough of them. And for the sake of the future of our kids and grandkids, it makes sense to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels. We, the private sector and our government should be doing what we can to transition away from fossil fuels, that will help us achieve energy independence. China has its own problems, let their pollution be their issue until we can do something to sanction them to make them consider changing their behavior. Other countries need to do the same thing. We need USICA and Joe Manchin’s reconciliation plan to pass. Yeah that was a few weeks ago. I’m not concerned until I see actual food shortages.
-
How many stores are near you and what are the stores near you? I don’t see empty shelves where I live yet so I am not worried. Even if there’s less bread or not enough fertilizer to raise larger livestock, I’m not sure I see significant shortages. Where did you see Biden’s statement and was it the news or was it commentary?

I wish there were more classes around political science and government and fewer around anthropology, psychology and sociology. I took anthropology and psychology and wasn’t impressed with what I learned. They also need more math and science classes to help kids who want to get up to the next level of classes be able to do so. And don’t require foreign language, give kids the option to do a language, trades or math and science track.

It’s going to take time. Gas was at $4.54 up here in DuPage County a few weeks ago and is down to $4.09. Maybe releasing from the strategic petroleum reserve will help. Prices are another story. Eggs were $2 at the store today and a week’s worth of groceries was like $200, probably somewhere over $25-$50 over what it is usually is. It doesn’t really matter who controls congress, they can’t do shit about the prices anyway.

GT: Sox @ Tigers (Giolito v Rodriguez) 12:10 CT NBCSN
The Beast replied to bmags's topic in 2022 Season in Review
Pollack should have made that catch in right, but the relief pitching didn’t do their job today. This is one game they should have won and I’ll move to the next one, but it is possible this division doesn’t suck as much it did last year. Better hope Giolito doesn’t miss a lot of time or they will be out yet another starting pitcher.
