They need TA back in the worst way so we don’t see at bats like Garcia just had.
-
Better not GIDP here.

Don’t understand that pinch run move TLR.

Good thing Eloy is at third now so all he has to do is trot home.
-
Okay so…what are your thoughts about what has been discussed here?
-
Fuckin Eloy Jimenez. Take a pitch for god sakes?

That makes sense, I thought you meant aides but then I couldn’t make sense of what aides you meant. I’m not sure what better option Biden and his administration had since carrots didn’t work so maybe sticks would. But I don’t know what other options there aside from letting the unvaccinated die or try therapeutics. Maybe more people will end up getting the vaccine. If not and this gets thrown out, I’m not sure how else this pandemic is brought to an end. Maybe if you and him bothered to just read the responses instead of the quoted sections you could engage in the discussion. You should join the discussion instead of telling others how to debate.

A fair response even if I don’t agree with everything. I would consider natural immunity if we had more time and research but we do not have the luxury of time. Things will not go back to normal if everyone was vaccinated so that is not necessarily true. I do think if a certain percentage were vaccinated it wouldn’t be as big of an issue. Yeah, it’s a worldwide pandemic and other variants will come and other countries will have a vaccination problem, but that is where a coalition of nations need to help get them vaccinated. I’m not sure how we could help them otherwise. If we can get this virus to become the flu with some years worse than others, I would be all for that, but we aren’t there yet and we still need to get there. What do you mean by table of aids? It may not go well socially but people I know who won’t get it won’t even have a conversation about the vaccine and the people commenting about it just get angry and shit on others for pro vaccine views and vaccine mandates. There is no discussion. I just don’t know if listening would lead to anything productive but I guess it depends on the individual. The people in the rural areas CNN talked to seemed a lot more reasonable than people I know or interact with on Facebook. Enjoy the game and please do find 2 hours sometime soon to watch the program.

Read the one that pertains to your post. The response is short, the quoted portions are longer.

I can’t understand why people don’t look at science and think, when new facts are found or new evidence is discovered, why shouldn’t science change and recommendations change? Science should be evolving and not stay the same. People can be fed up with government, but the fact is Trump got operation warp speed going and the vaccine was safe after the election. He even got the vaccine and had he won, I would be interested to know what vaccine hesitant people would have done with the vaccine. I still want to know why people would rather get the virus and use treatments like imervectin, regeneron, remdesivir and hydroxicloroquine rather than get the vaccine. So you think we are incapable of critical thinking and independent thinking? While I had a sick day today (a rarity for me) I watched a fascinating perspective from Frontline on America after 9/11 (https://video.wttw.com/video/america-after-911-sxarls/) The argument was that actions taken from different administrations have taken have created a mistrust of government and division in the country. There is no unity anymore like there had been. We can’t have many other threads about those bolded issues and we do have one on student loan debt. This issue just happens to be one that impacts us all every day. I am not about picking people apart, I would love to have productive conversations with people and meet in the middle and solve issues. But many people don’t want to have those conversations and just restate their positions or point out whataboutisms. Also, are we sheep because many of us are pro-vaccine? I’d consider other methods for combating the pandemic but right now the vaccines are the best thing we have until more research comes out and says otherwise. I’ll read the article you mentioned and consider it. The government’s way of mandating vaccines is to do so with public sector employees and put the onus on the private sector since the private sector can set rules. I fully elect the government to face lawsuits and I will be watching closely to see what mandate is upheld. I will also be curious to see how many companies mandate vaccines and how much bitching and backlash there will be from people not being able to do things or work at their employer without testing or a vaccine like they could before. My company mandated vaccines and the people I know would throw a fit about this would probably face a similar mandate at other companies so it could be a lose lose situation if they were going to leave. Check out the video I mentioned to BrianAnderson. Get some popcorn and watch it on 9/11. This is an argument where the unity went away and the division started. https://video.wttw.com/video/america-after-911-sxarls/ Do you think mandating vaccines is about politics or is it leadership? Encouraging the vaccines hasn’t worked so maybe sticks are needed rather than carrots. Some republicans like Mitch McConnell have promoted vaccines. I don’t think we can come together and will remain divided and I hope we don’t see a repeat of January 6 on September 18 at the Justice for J6 rally. Okay, so you listen. What happens when you listen and is there any action or more arguing?

Fascinating to me too. If only there was a way to talk to people in rural areas to understand each other even if we disagree. I try talking to people who support the former president on Facebook and they would never admit as much truth as both of the gentlemen in this video (the guy whose friend lost his wife and the guy at the very end). The sad part is, I want to understand other people but if only they could give me that chance and have an honest discussion on the virus like these people did.

Sad but true. “The measures deemed necessary to fight terrorism exploited our eagerness to hate our enemies, which we had no trouble doing. Those required to combat COVID-19 required us to love our neighbors. Somehow, that’s a much harder sell.” https://www.chicagotribune.com/opinion/commentary/ct-opinion-sept-11-terrorism-pandemic-chapman-20210908-uyfb4y4uzzddxcviu4kz4ul4xm-story.html

It’s politics. The idea appears to be that Trump backed therapeutics and started operation warp speed, but the media shot down the therapeutics and people would rather support those than the vaccines since Trump promoted those. Then the ideology of the Republican Party was more about individual freedoms than being pro-vaccine. People like Mitch McConnell were late to the party in getting people vaccinated. My other thought, however morbid or somewhat serious it is, is that people are willing to not be vaccinated and let the pandemic remain out of control under Biden’s watch to give republicans control of Congress in 2022 and the presidency in 2024.

Just remember that getting the vaccine lowers your risk of getting it and gives you a mechanism to combat the infection. It does not make your risk zero but it does help protect you against the virus. As for the games, we didn’t have the vaccines ready a year ago and many of the games are outdoors, so I can see why people have gone maskless outdoors. Indoors, I would imagine masks will be worn and proof of vaccination or a negative test is required (see the Saints’s stadium and the United Center as an example).

This is an outstanding and important post. Thank you Balta, this helps answer our question. I sent the link and section that talks about it and he appreciates it too. And they would rather get the virus, which we also don’t know what the long term impact of yet is, rather than get the now FDA approved Pfizer vaccine. The spread is who I am more concerned with rather than the hosts, since some of the hosts you simply can’t reason with which is too bad. I would love to know what another conservative friend from work who is from Tennessee thinks and if he actually got the vaccine. I guess we will see if he and others remain with the organization past November 1 and have the vaccine unless he and others got a medical or religious exemption approved from HR (which can’t be the easiest thing to fake).

One offer I thought should have been made from teachers unions is to mandate vaccines for all teachers and in turn, all students mask up until a certain vaccination threshold is reached in schools and the masks get removed. I have no idea how well that would work or how much pushback there would be but it was just an idea. I do wonder how well living with the virus floating around and being vaccinated will go, particularly if the kids are vaccinated and more employer mandates get more people to take the vaccine. Is the goal to make cases more manageable and not overrun hospitals with getting as many people vaccinated as possible, getting boosters each year and wearing masks during the peaks of the virus each year? I’m not sure we have all figured the goal for the future and dealing with this virus yet, but science changes with new evidence so I just think we don’t know yet. You mean, the ones who are 12 and up? I’m wondering what parents are more likely to vaccinate their kids, those with older or younger kids? Are some parents concerned about the long term impacts of the vaccine or that the vaccine isn’t fully FDA approved? It would be good to study further. One of my conservative friends at work (both he and I are vaccinated) and I were trying to figure out the answer to the question, do vaccines help slow the spread of the virus? Regardless of if they do or not, what is the goal? Is it getting most people vaccinated and the rest are at risk of hospitalization or death and the rest of us get a yearly booster shot (so cases rise but we avoid hospitalizations and deaths)? Anyway, it goes along with your point. I hope you and your children don’t get it, my wife and I sent our son to daycare and he got a nice cold which got spread to us. We are both vaccinated but we thought it was possible we got covid from the daycare. Luckily it was a bad cold and my wife tested negative, which HR asked for because she and I had fevers. It’s tough to keep everyone safe…

Not unless the mask mandates are relaxed in schools. Until the vaccination rate goes up, masks will be required for some time, at least in Illinois. We will see what happens in other states. Just like some folks don’t think that the science community can change what they know over time and look at it as flip flopping rather than using new data and evidence to produce new guidance.

Once my son and niece have the vaccine and my wife is in a school with more vaccinated kids, I am perfectly fine moving back towards normal. Then it comes more deadly to the unvaccinated and I have done everything I possibly can to protect the people closest to me from severe illness and death. Cases unfortunately won’t go away but maybe the transmission and severity of the virus will, especially if we get boosters every year. I also really hope the unvaccinated people who are vaccine hesitant are heeding the message from employers and other private businesses or organizations that impact their lives. Things may be quite different for the unvaccinated if enough entities require mandates or for people to get or prove negative tests.

Bye bye. The NFL teams are definitely doing that with players whether they admit it or not too. See Cam “The Truth” Newton as an example.

They have him for another year after this. They need to figure this out going forward, particularly for the postseason. It’s a problem.
-
So are people more pissed off that they gave up Madrigal to get him or that Hahn felt the need to get Kimbrel and they have gotten a dud in high or low leverage situations? Not sure why he was out there tonight but he should have gotten the outs.
-
Ask your doctor. My wife and I are getting the flu vaccine because she is a teacher and we both want to protect our son the best that we can.

I suggested that kids should be masked in schools and the teachers should be mandated to be vaccinated and my former state representative, a Republican, said Pritzker wouldn’t do it. Well he just did. It’s better news for my wife since she’s vaccinated and her coworkers will have to get vaccinated too. Now if only my son, a 9 month old, could only get the vaccine, then we wouldn’t have to worry about covid at daycare even if he’s already battling his first cold and another common condition from daycare. My employer mandated vaccines the other day, making it so that if you aren’t vaccinated, you can’t travel, go on appointments or meet with the general public unless you have a medical or religious exemption (I’m no theologian, but I would love for someone to explain that to me) approved through HR. And masks need to be worn if people go back to an office. (Until I find a new job, I won’t be going to the office since there’s no point.) Anyway, I am curious if people who I know are more conservative or live in rural states will actually get the vaccine or will leave. I wonder if we see a mass exodus or if people will stay and comply, since it is likely other employers may follow suit. Lastly, I wonder if vaccine mandates will make it to the Supreme Court and if they will be upheld because of Jacobson v. Massachusetts. We will see…
