What do you guys think should be done to immigration laws, especially if the congress goes 50/50? Are any reforms from previous legislation relevant or helpful towards a new bill? I’m not looking for an “enforcing the laws” answer because there is much more nuance than that.

What of NWINFan’s post did you disagree with though? Let’s test the Cruz statement. Number one, Biden is not the president yet and they are due for a recess soon so there’s no shot something would get passed before they reconvene. Second, how are you sure they will win the two races in GA? Number three, the last I checked Mitch McConnell was the senate majority leader and directed legislation, not Joe Biden. A good question to consider is, what will senate Republicans consider a fair counter to the $2.2 trillion bill in the house.

Sure, let the source who said it look like an idiot and give Cedric Richmond a chance to respond, which he did. You should also note that other senators have declined to come on and comment, something Chuck did say earlier in the segment.
-
I watch Meet the Press religiously, I think Chuck might have been referring to more lawsuits and certified states. He can’t control what his guests say and he always has lawmakers from both parties on. And he did push back throughout the interview, listeners should know how ridiculous Cramer sounded. I sat there shaking my head at Cramer.

I think in general, people believe things that cause them fear to be worse than they actually are. I do not like any far left or far right organizations and do not think movement is that widespread. You’re right, we will never meet any of these people. And when the protests happened and the looting happened, there were definitely opportunists that participated. But I don’t live my life in fear over it. Was the couple in St. Louis actually meeting antifa outside or just protestors? I lived in two high rises in Chicago. While there may be one security guard at the desks, good luck trying to get beyond them with the security systems in place. The looting is unlikely to resurface in Chicago like we saw this summer, that was more concentrated on the Michigan Avenue storefronts rather than residences. I live in the Chicagoland suburbs and have for most of my life. There is no way that kind of crap is coming to the suburbs like the president said it was going to. Either way Greg, it’s kind of silly to watch all of this stuff and live in fear. It’s unlikely that what you see will be replicated in your area to the extent of what you see in Portland. I’d have to see what their beef truly is to see if their threat is growing.
-
Is this your primary concern Greg? How big do you feel this movement is?
-
I also feel for the secret service agents who were put at risk when he held his rallies or had to drive him around during his hospital stay.

Can you guys explain what is meant by Biden or the democrats being practically republicans by some? What do you both think about how progressives and moderates interact in the electoral sense? What should moderates and progressives do to bring something home to their constituents that appeases both of them? Please provide the links you watch or have been watching in the thread so we can all see them.

I am of the opinion that there is no progress without centrist votes in Congress unless bills are just shoved down the other party’s throat. Centrists most certainly stand for something, for me I am for a public option for health care and am for pension reform in Illinois, which wouldn’t make me be a democrat in some people’s eyes. You also mention getting something in return, well, that is what horse trading under regular order and compromise is for. Each side can walk away and get something and if instead there is just gridlock and no deal to be had, that is when government is at its worst. I hope that doesn’t happen in the next Congress but who knows what will.
-
That would be huge if he were gone, although I don’t think it would immediately solve the state’s pension deficits and unpaid liabilities. I hope he doesn’t install a pawn of his to be the next speaker, Illinoisans deserve better. My issue with Amazon is how it can hurt retailers, the taxes it pays and how it is trying to be a one stop shop for everything. It is hard to compete if you gain market share of literally everything. Look at Walgreens’ shares that fell the other day when a new pharmacy business was mentioned/launched?. Same here. Give me the Romneys, Murkowskis, McCains of the world. They are few and far between, but their bipartisan nature is what makes them stronger than people like Cruz, Jordan and Gaetz. “Black Lives Matter is a statement of saying that we have a justice system and a law enforcement system which from time to time does not exercise equal and fair justice. We want to make it very clear that law enforcement and other parts of the justice system should be color blind and should not be discriminatory to people of color. I have an African American grandson. I understand that there is a talk where it is explained that they could be discriminated against because of the color of their skin. I don’t know how my grandson can understand how he could be treated differently than his white cousins and siblings because of the pigment of his skin. I find that very troubling. Some people say, well what about the Black Lives Matter organization, do you subscribe to their manifesto? I don’t haven’t even seen their manifesto or worry about that organization. The movement that was very simple that brought out people across the world is, we want to see more racial justice, we want to see less racial discrimination, we want to stand with our Black friends and say, yes, your lives do matter.” - Mitt Romney on “The Axe Files.” I share this because this is the kind of thought independent of party that I want to see. If Biden can appeal to congress and unite and bring compromise, I think the pendulum can swing back and some progress can be made.

Good reading on what McConnell needs to consider for the stimulus bill and the compromises Pelosi and the Congress must make: https://thebulwark.com/the-pandemic-is-now-mcconnells-problem-too/

If it helps, Warnock is only going to be the senator for two years until the 2022 election. I think he’s got a better shot at winning than Ossoff does, even though I am a bit concerned by those statements. I’d have to dig in a bit more to see if there is context though to see how alarming they actually are.

Let Vance in NY handle Trump. Why should Biden bother with Trump with everything else they need to do.
-
And as soon as Biden takes office, he needs to be the focus and Trump needs to be given the cold shoulder, unless they believe they will lose some of their listeners by not talking about Trump. Still, it’s time to move on and let the angry elephant be lowered into his political coffin slowly.

Do you want to put money on the GA senate races Greg? I’d put good money on it that Biden doesn’t win the majority, given how the house is trending to be more divided with what happened in this election. I bet they win one seat of the two, if any at all. 2022 will probably be worse for democrats, even if they pick up seats in the senate, because historically they will lose seats in the house. I also say book it that none of what you fear will happen. Keep in mind that Kaepernick isn’t aligned with the Democratic Party and neither is Antifa, at least financially. As I have repeatedly stated, his members who want progressive ideas are not in the majority and any legislation that gets worked on needs to pass through the senate. In divided government there needs to be compromise instead of spooning one way of government down the other party’s throat, plain and simple. Joe Biden discussed compromise in his speech, we will just need to see how that plays out. He still will probably fight with members of the freedom caucus anyway. It will be interesting to see which republicans will go all Trumpian in Congress and if Mitch McConnell’s strange adversarial yet productive relationship with Joe Biden yields anything or if he remains obstructionist just like in Obama’s second term.

Are McEwing and Boston as good as gone then?

I’ll take the vaccine as long as it has been vetted, fully tested and made available. We need complete transparency which I think we are getting. Now if only a good amount of the population would take it we would be in business...I hope.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, I’ve got them on my list for Binny’s. I have had plenty of hopped up wheat beers and I have had the banana flavors. I have had wheat beers that don’t really have a fruit flavor or much of any flavor before. Since I am going to Binny’s and am putting in a six pack for a virtual beer tasting, where we get one of each beer for the tasting, I wanted something different and good. I like Gumballhead but am always looking for something different that is lighter and has some flavor to it. I’m open to other possibilities as well.

https://thebulwark.com/what-a-president-biden-could-do-with-a-gop-controlled-senate/ I thought this was worth sharing since is a the political reality we live in.

At least they have nothing to do with the Ball family. I thought they were going to pick the dude from Israel. I am so far beyond understanding the modern NBA game so I don’t know who they will dump and what they need.

Any wheat beer suggestions with some flavor?

Not good, he’s no spring chicken either.

So let me get this straight. Some fans want to fire Matt Nagy with his win percentage being the best since Lovie Smith? Why not pick tackles and a quarterback high in the draft since they finally have a first round pick and see what happens since fans believe the Bears have an “elite” defense? Wouldn’t it set them back to hire another head coach and GM in terms of roster turnover and yet another scheme? I’d give Pace and Nagy one more year. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/chi/coaches.htm
