  1. What do you propose Biden does though? I’ve read that Trump has $225 million cash in hand and Biden only has $20 million. Where is Bloomberg when you need him? He should be the equalizer in this whole thing. Maybe he has a strategy after the convention.
  2. Yes, but I’m not sure what makes the most sense. My friend at work is giving his to a general manager at his favorite bar so it can be dispersed to the wait staff.
  3. Even though I don’t support Pritzker on his soft math and unwillingness to solve the pension problem, he and Lightfoot are doing a good job with the coronavirus pandemic.
  4. Why do you speak in third person?
  5. https://www.chicagotribune.com/coronavirus/ct-coronavirus-chicago-mccormick-place-hospital-20200328-px7xupa67je5fmbmr72prne6by-story.html Holy crap!
  6. I think we can handle it. This beats the living daylights out of any conversation I have found anywhere!
  7. I don’t think he’s planning on getting through one term. His VP is going to have to take over at some point. Harris or Abrams.
  8. Yep, busy work all while I am trying to build skills and change careers. At least I get to leave this summer for some place better.
  9. Thanks for explaining, I admit to not knowing everything about finance and the fed but I always am concerned about the impact on taxpayers like me. ?
  10. Also how are we getting the payments, is it going to bank accounts from our 2019 tax returns? Is this coming out of our income taxes for next year? What oversight, eligibility guidelines and exclusions are there for businesses? Time will tell.
  11. I want to know how much pork is in this stimulus package and how much this will add to our national debt. I understand it is stimulating the economy but damn that is a lot of money. Hopefully the oversight the Democrats sought is going to be enough to ensure money is being used properly and not for CEO bonuses and stock buy backs but for actual business reasons, which might be wishful thinking.
  12. Nope. Which is why they need to draft the offensive line, cornerback or linebacker high.
  13. I still think they need another large running back since I don’t consider Cohen to be that guy. Nall isn’t that guy either. Maybe they’ll get one in the draft.
  14. It looks like Gurley signed with Atlanta. Ever since the Bears traded Howard, I felt like they have needed a larger back to get short yardage when needed and get some long yards consistently. We have a small sample size in Montgomery, but he needs another back aside from Cohen to complement him. Some of the moves they have made have added to the roster, like Foles, but some are questionable since they cost a lot. They are risking it playing with young cornerbacks on defense and they have lost a lot of solid depth on the offensive line and at the linebacker position. It will be interesting to see what Pace does and if he can get Robinson to sign an extension and free up some cap room to make other moves.
  15. Is it worth getting a bruiser back to go with Montgomery and Cohen in the backfield?
  16. I can see how your job could change in the next five years and even how my wife’s job in a public school could change in a crisis like this. At least her school isn’t just wasting the days out of school and is trying some form of online learning. Your example of an architect is exactly how data science and AI can support humans but can’t replace entire jobs. Careers thought to be safe (underwriter, lawyer, accountant) can have tasks automated away and to a certain extent can even have jobs taken from software. My issue is that I am more of a jack of all trades with backgrounds in communication, business and data science, but I am a master of none, not having completed four years of a journalism program like I had originally intended, getting a business degree and getting a data science graduate degree to get some updated skills, especially since my employer paid 4/5ths of it and I’m not sure the MBA would have been much better. I am drawn to learning to code in Python and because SQL comes with a data analyst job description, I will learn that too. I also have an interest in JavaScript since web development appears to still have a good outlook. If I lose my next job because of automation, I have thought about nursing or some sort of informatics career since I don’t consider nursing to being threatened by anything. I guess I would tell my future kids to focus on majoring in a profession in demand instead of something general to protect your economic future.
  17. We just refinanced and are saving $250 a month with minimal closing costs. I’m just hoping that the lean insurance company I work for doesn’t slash jobs, even though I’m an individual contributor and handle a good chunk of my team’s work and have some experience in data analysis so I am somewhat valuable.
  18. Will specific industries or job areas he hurt more than others? Can the stock market really get down to 2-3,000 by the end of the year?
  19. How much job loss do you think is possible and which industries do you really see being impacted?
  20. Another thought I had on my run today is what will the world be like when there is automation and there is severe job loss? Worse than this? Will I have to retrain and hope to God I can raise a family and become a nurse or get into informatics at the same time or try being a developer (if my current pursuit of something data related doesn’t work out and I want to get into something “essential”)?
  21. It’s all germane to the discussion and this doesn’t rise to the level of discussion that the Filibuster had. Let it play out.
  22. I can only imagine how things will be if climate change is severe as the doomsday scenario in my head or how I perceive things playing it out make it to be.
  23. These times make me feel like it really pays to be in a position that is essential, like a trade, health care, in particular nursing, or in a public service. I feel non essential working in insurance, which is why I’m glad I’m leaving my company if people are hiring this summer, since my graduate degree will be paid for. Now I just hope we don’t get restricted anymore out using our work computer outside business hours so I can finish my project and class work by next Friday. I know, I should have a computer of my own but I did the rest of my grad degree on my computer without any issue and then this comes along.
