Says Bears haven't even put Field(s) on the market as they are still evaluating Caleb.  I think it is BS, but supposedly Rap said it in which case there must be some merit.

So all the tweets about the Raiders and Bears discussing a Fields trade were made up?

Obviously, but you keep asserting that Poles "played" himself, which would indicate he has made a wrong move overvaluing Fields when he could have had more at some other point in time and made the wrong move, thus "played" himself, yet haven't been able to articulate what that actually was.

Gotcha. And I amended that by saying the offeseason isn't over yet. However, if the Bears end up with both Caleb Williams and Justin Fields on the roster come week 1 then I will state that Poles 100% played himself.

The other thing is you can trade the #1 pick, move down a spot or two get a QB, keep Fields for another season, and get some draft capital there if you like someone as much or more than Williams.

Why keep Fields at all if you are drafting a QB with a top 5 pick?

For like the 4th time, what did he pass up that he could have had before which would indicate he "played" himself?

I obviously don't know what the offers were/are for Fields and neither do you. We can both agree that Poles is trying to trade Justin Fields though right?

"People" is not Poles.  How did Poles play himself?  What deal did Poles pass up that he played himself?

Fans chattering does not equal the GM, you understand that right?

Ryan Poles has been trying to trade Justin Fields all offseason. Everyone knows this. The offseason isn't over yet, so I will give this a little more time to play out. However, if the Bears draft Caleb Williams and bring back Justin Fields then I will say Poles 100% played himself and so will many others.

How does it not add up? Kirk Cousins is a very good starting QB in the NFL. Justin Fields is not.

What exactly makes Fields worth a respectable draft pick? Because he was a high pick?

Yep. Kirk Cousins may not have much playoff success but the dude has put up some huge regular seasons in his career.

I don't see how they are comparable. Kirk Cousins threw for 4K yards and 29 touchdowns during his year 4 season.

Go scroll through this thread. People on here were talking about Atlanta possibly giving up their first rounder for Justin Fields. Those posts aged like sour milk.

A developer. I don't think that's too hard. They may sell it at a slight loss, but maybe not since the area is clear. You can start building on it almost immediately.

Is the land zoned for residential? I'm not sure what a developer would put there now. The Bears would have very little leverage in a sale if the buyer knew they had to move the property asap.

Bagent almost threw more picks in 3.5 games than Fields threw in 13. Bagent might process faster, but that doesn't mean he makes better decisions or throws better passes.

yeah and Bagent was an undrafted rookie free agen from a nobody school. Justin Fields was a top 15 pick from Ohio State University with a few years of NFL experience under his belt. The gap between the dudes is not that large if we are talking about playing QB. Justin Fields would be a much better running back than Tyler Bagent 100% though.

That's the thing I keep thinking.  Someone gave Cousins nine figures, yet Fields isn't worth a respectable draft pick?  It doesn't add up.

Looks like there is very little demand for Justin Fields as a starting NFL quarterback. The trade value of Justin Fields keeps going down with each passing day. It's looking more and more like Poles played himself here.

I think they end up selling Arlington Heights and are including that sale as part of the "We'll pony up 2 mil". And I think that's why it gets done. Even if the stadium is 4 billion to build, that's half. You would be lucky to get even a quarter of that from JR.

Who is going to buy up that Arlington Heights property? The Bears are going to take a haircut if they put it back on the market anytime soon.

My guess is that the Bears and Sox were told to go work something out together (public info), then the Bears and Sox did. Sox probably tried their schtick with the Bears saying "Yeah, you let us use your cash and we'll lobby support behind whatever you want to do." Warren, who has done this before, said "yeah, no, this isn't going to work." and decided, we are just going to move along ourselves.

I've always felt, the first to the table is the one that gets their stadium done with at least some public financing. The other one will get very little financing and probably doesn't end up building. Bears released this to the press on Sunday less than a week after they were going to try to work with the Sox. It's clear they're racing to the table.

JR moves to the beat of his own drum, so I'm sure he's not panicking.

The two organizations working together on something never made any realistic sense to me. There is no way they can share a stadium and it seems impossible to put both a baseball stadium and a football stadium at the 78 site.

I still think the Bears end up out in Arlington Heights. They already have the land purchased. Arlington Heights is also so much easier to get to for a majority of their fanbase and season ticket holders. It seems like a natural fit.

It sure doesn’t look like the bears have any interest in working together with the Sox. The bears are playing poker while Jerry is playing checkers. The bears are calling the Sox hand. They know Jerry isn’t now going to come out with a +billion dollar announcement for private funding for a new Sox stadium. Jerry is getting ready to fold.

And why should they? This whole scenario has been fascinating to observe. The only leverage Jerry has left is to threaten to move the team if he doesn't get his way. It is very hard to teach an old dog a new trick and JR is no exception.

I love the dichotomy of "Free Agents will never sign here" and "JR could have signed [player X], but didn't".

What makes anybody think that Cody Bellinger would have signed with the White Sox? AJ Pollock left $6m on the table to NOT play here. The Sox would have to pay a premium to attract a player like Bellinger that would make it an insane overpay. Like, Kris Bryant insane.

And as JR has stated numerous times this dichotomy is not his fault at all. The White Sox are in the position they are in because they have shitty fans, not incompetent management and ownership.

It's pretty clear from everything today that they're focusing on the Lakeside Center site.

The State of Illinois and the Bears still owe like 300-400 million on the Soldier Field renovation, no? How are they planning to make those debt payments disappear?

WSox needed a power hitting RF

I argued that the WSox should have outbid the Cubs by whatever was reasonably necessary to get Cody Bellinger.  OK, I know that would have been a costly FA signing outside of the WSox typical framework, but it had the potential for being  a real game changer.  Now the Cubs feel invigorated by signing Bellinger and the WSox are left with the perennial hole in RF.  Just great..Then there was Hahn and KW letting Burger go. You cannot continue to make foolish trades and fail to sign key FA when they are available.  And you cannot make questionable Draft picks that end up as average or below major league talent.

Who says that you can't continue to do these things? It's been the White Sox way for a long long time.

Sure, they can…  but they won’t.  Have you not been paying attention to JR and the Sox in free agency over the past 20+ years?

Maybe JR should ask the taxpayers of Illinois and Chicago to help fund a Dylan Cease contract extension. I'm sure the City or State can install a license plate reader at the 35st Street exit off the Dan Ryan. Every car that uses that exit is tolled fifty cents into a White Sox free agent fund.

I think it’s a combination of “Poles got his guy”, he didn’t want to potentially lose out on Bates to other interested teams, and he also thinks Bates can be an above average center on a cheap contract, rather than overspending to bring in a legitimate starting center.  We will have to wait to find out if Poles was correct in his assessment.

I don’t really think he was duped by the Bills.  The facts were out there — Bates started for the Bills two seasons ago but he was on the bench last season.  So either Poles sees something in Bates that the Bills didn’t, or Poles is wrong and Bates is just a backup quality OL.

A fifth rounder is not a massive loss.  Many fifth round picks end up being cut anyways.  Now Poles’ trade of the first pick in the second round for a lazy bum WR will forever be his legacy if he fails to get the job done with the Bears.

The Claypool trade is looking more and more like a Rick Hahn special. What a terrible trade. There is a pretty decent chance Claypool isn't even on a NFL roster this Fall.

Exactly, all kinds of new construction has been partially funded by incentives.  Your local Starbucks probably has.  Your local crappy art museum definitely has.  Your local damn Amazon warehouse is probably getting perks.

Why do we want the White Sox to not get any incentives?

Most reasonable people aren't saying the White Sox shouldn't get any incentives at all. It makes sense for the City and State to kick in some $$$ to fund the infrastucture and improvements to local public transit that will be needed with a new stadium.

It appears that Jerry and company don't want a just a few incentives though. I haven't seen any reporting yet that JR plans to open up his checkbook at all for this new stadium and that is absolutely insane. Again, he wants to socialize all the risk, but there is no way in hell he will share any profits. JR needs to pay his fair share if he wants to get this project off the ground. It is really that simple.
