  1. We probably would get more in return if we concentrated on pitching. That's the market right now. But if you are gonna reload you have to..somehow....get like a hitter at some point. At least one of our 9 guys has to be able to hit
  2. Getting 3 WAR in your first true season is-- really good. Also the days are over where superstar prospect bats get traded. All those first tier guys are staying where they are and you are gonna have to do homework to find the next tier's underappreciated guy, whoever he is If i have an issue with him it's the age and ceiling-left...but again - young bats really arent being traded these days
  3. JP Hoonstra says crochet will be traded very soon. if i'm crochet i buy a condo now and get real nice and settled here in chicago
  4. Highest tier prospects were not traded at this deadline. People were going nuts on the return for Kikuchi though (though, no elite prospects involved). Info i'm giving you explains why there's a disparity there
  5. teams didnt value Fedde's results more than Kikuchi's pitch data (w/ bad results) then Kikuchi proceeded to be awesome and Fedde proceeded to suck the days are over where a team trading for a guy is only going to care about what they did recently results-wise
  6. I believe that was debunked and we later found out Grifol actually was lowest paid in MLB, or close to it.
  7. Look no further than Mark Kotsay though. If you enter a situation that is low spending and known to be bad, you can grow with them and stay for awhile if you are incident free. Pedro was hired in a win-now moment. Also look at Eberflus. You can make a lot of mistakes and have job security if you are lined up with the beginning of a GMs tenure..where the GM isnt working scared at all. And that doubly is Getz's situation rn, he's running this thing for a long time
  8. Has he gone on record at length about an analytics stance? Because he worked in LAA and has to know the deal-- saber decision comes up from FO and you are using it in the game. You have no choice. And especially him, he has no other jobs to interview for right now, and has already managed before. The saber thing should implemented and pushed by the FO; i dont need the manager to be an ivy leaguer. his biggest role (in 2024) is keeping players loose and motivated
  9. Nevin is uninspiring because he has lost some ML games already, and is a retread.. but is there any solid reasoning behind why he's some awful choice? He's not Tony LaRussa, he has worked for Minasian and has had experiences Tony hasnt.. Probably knows well that FOs can control the mgr's choices, and will be influencing him. After working in LAA. And this is a good thing to be ready for
  10. i like how we're so broken and destroyed that even what could be a straight forward thread title like this... sarcastic "Search" in quotes
  11. also have to remember Pedro was hired for a win-now team. so he looked bad right away. the manager of this team is probably going to oversee a 15 win improvement because it is really really difficult to lose what we lost last year. you have to be bad and have bad luck (at the same time, all year)
  12. Let me also add, it's a great time to become the Sox mgr if you are a first timer, bench coach type..specifically. You are probably going to get long leash, 4 or 5 years (not all on one contract). So you pocket 5M guaranteed dollars instead of being a never-was. Really good teams are hiring first timers, paying them 1 mil per year, and firing them in 2 years.. guy we'll hire will be like A's situation with our old buddy Mark Kotsay
  13. It's a great time to become the manager of this franchise though. With Eberflus we are seeing how beneficial it is to be the coach at the same time as a GM that was hired around the same time as you. You get to make all the mistakes you want and not face the music. The GM has all the job security in the world (especially with Jerry as owner) so you are safe by association for a few years of expected badness. He's Getz's first mgr hire
  14. Final question of Ken Rosenthal's podcast covered our mgr search just now. Not a lot there but he talked up Nevin's good qualities and said they should go with an outside hire, not Grady
