  1. If Hahn was alive in 1860, he probably would’ve voted for John Bell
  2. Just looking at closing options available now in free agency, Gravemen is probably a better option. If the Sox are looking to simply unload some salary they’d be better off shopping Graveman. For Hendriks they need to get a substantial return. Can’t just offload that kind of asset for nothing
  3. An over payment is what the Sox should be looking for. Contending teams in need of a high end closer don’t have a lot of options available.
  4. You guys must have a lot higher estimation of the Sox bullpen if you actually believe they have no room. Either the rule 5 pick or Ruiz can be cut. No big loss either way. A guy like Ruiz is the definition of replaceable
  5. The rule 5 puck can be cut, though. On the other hand, declining to acquire players because you have players like Ruiz is right up the Sox alley. Just don’t agree with simply pencilling in the weakest guys on the roster. Ruiz isn’t the caliber of player to block acquisition of potentially better players. Of course, neither is Leury yet the sox locked him up none the less
  6. If the Sox don’t at least nab an arm to compete for a back end bullpen job, they are clearly asleep at the wheel. No way there isn’t a guy available worthy of competing with the likes of Ruiz and Martin
  7. Considering MLB’s involvement with sports betting, this seems beyond a blunder. This looks like criminal conspiracy to me. You can’t have a variable in the game that clearly effects game outcomes, particularly when you are pushing sports betting that involves over/under betting
  8. With Clevinger, Lynn and Kopech in the rotation, thirty plus starts outside of the starting five is almost a certainty
  9. I too have been considering what team to follow if I were to abandon the Sox. Cardinals would be the obvious choice for a competent franchise, but I’m not a fan of Cards fans at all. AL Central teams are out of the question, but it has to be a regional team. Brew crew maybe? They’ve got great fans, but probably just setting up for more frustration. Damn it sucks being a Sox fan. I just don’t see a solution
  10. True but hendriks has been significantly better than Jansen the last few years and having an option for ‘24 allows a team to acquire a legit closer while still having, uh, options. There is no comparable closer available via free agency. His trade value should still be fairly high, particularly to a team like the Dodgers. A good closer may only be worth 2 WAR, until a team doesn’t have a viable closer. Then he’s worth a lot more
  11. I’d rather have Q, but I was predicting a mid-late career resurgence for him and have to admit he was my favorite Sox player for a few years. Even in 2019 he had a solid FIP of 3.80, due to strong walk and hr rates. I suppose the upside is higher with Clevinger but there’s a good chance he doesn’t do squat for us
  12. Even the ‘83 team was basically Fisk, Baines, Luzinski, Kittle, and Rudy, along side a team full of utility players.
  13. Got a whole god damned team of utility infielders!
  14. Wait. Are you serious? You know there is no actual such thing, right?
  15. I thought the trades set them up to succeed well enough, they simply failed to execute from there
  16. Kahnle has only thrown thirteen innings over the last three years.
  17. Dodgers are the most obvious. Maybe the Red Sox. Phillies, Angels, Dbacks or Rangers
  18. The certain time of the month for a man? What’s that, the day you clean the bathroom?
  19. Anyone ever tell you that you look just like Billy Bob Thornton?
  20. Yeah but the Tim Anderson meal beat the Bryce Harper meal last season
  21. 30 million will probably be an average salary by the end years of his contract
  22. If everything had a point, then everything would be pointless
  23. Willie Mays was listed as 5’10 and honestly I think they were giving him a half inch there. Vaughn doubters dinging him way too much on his height. No way Vaughn is maxed out. Players typically get stronger as they approach thirty. At any rate, as I pointed out he is built just like Killebrew anyway. I could overlay a picture of Vaughn on that photo and it would be practically indistinguishable
  24. I’d say that is closer to a reasonable projection than a ceiling for Vaughn. To me his ceiling, as in best case scenario, is closer to .400 OBP and .575 SLG
  25. Who’s this look like? Add 10 pounds of muscle and Vaughn is the same guy:
