Scoreless 2K frame for Leasure, stranded a leadoff double.

Colson just went yard lefty lefty ?
-
-
He's over 25 with pro experience, so the pool reset isn't a factor. Just waiting for the MLB declaration which just came through apparently:
-
Montgomery, Eder, Leasure for the Sox.
-
Would like this move very much.

Sox boys really showed out in a 9-5 win, scoring and/or knocking in all but one of the team's runs and playing solid defense. Burke finished 1-4 with a BB and a HR. Montgomery finished 1-3 with 2 BB and 2 RBI. He was intentionally walked with the winning run on 2nd in the 9th. Ramos finished 1-4 with a BB and a huge walkoff grand slam. Sox pitching also did their thing. Cousin started and left with the lead after 3 IP, 2 ER, 3 K. The runs were on a solo shot and a triple + sac fly. Ellard pitched a 1-2-3 inning with 2Ks in the 8th. Leasure pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th, and gets the W on the Ramos slam. Despite the pair of XBH that burned him in one inning, Cousin looked like he was getting more swings with the breaking stuff today. Just one walk, and the other three hits were a shallow flare single, and a pair of grounders that just missed IF gloves. Also...I want to emphasize again how good Ramos looks on the basepaths lately. Hustled out a potential DP ball to keep an inning alive early in the game, which paid off with a HR from the next batter. Peep Ramos with the little dugout point and bat drop, and Montgomery fist pumping around the bases ?

Game 3: GDD vs. PEJ (Gameday | Live Stream) Cousin gets the start and all three Sox hitters are in their usual spots, so it's nice timing for the lone stream of the week. Link: https://www.mlb.com/video/live-fall-league-pej-vs-gdd-89899 Also Merk is around for some extra coverage:

Dogs win 11-2. Burke finished 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Montgomery finished 1-5 with a walk and RBI. Ramos finished 2-3 with a HR and 2 RBI. He also reached twice on catcher's interference (and scored both times). Coffey pitched a 1-2-3 inning with 1K. Burke's first RBI 2B, which nearly got out: https://www.mlb.com/video/jacob-burke-s-rbi-double Burke's second RBI 2B: https://www.mlb.com/video/jacob-burke-s-rbi-double-x4084 Ramos' HR: https://www.mlb.com/video/bryan-ramos-home-run

Game 2: GDD vs. SUR (Gameday | No Stream) Burke, Montgomery, and Ramos are all playing well through 3 innings: Ramos 1-2. Burke 2-2 with a double, RBI, and run scored. Montgomery 1-1 with a BB, RBI, and run scored. The RBI base hit followed a 10 pitch AB.

A few things of note: 1. Vote for Jacob! See the player in front with the Sox uni and amazing flow? That's our guy Jacob Burke, and if you have a minute, you can vote for him to make the Fall Stars game ? The game is Sunday, and the link to vote is here: https://www.mlb.com/arizona-fall-league/fall-stars-game/final-2-vote 2. Montgomery interview Colson Montgomery sat down for an interview with MLB Pipeline: They talked about his time in AFL, the Seager comps, and his confidence about sticking at short (though he said the Sox can stick him at 3B, RF, or wherever, and he's down if it gets wins). Maybe most interestingly, he confirmed that he's a Bledsoe guy (like Burger, Brent Rooker, Ryan Noda, Brandon Lowe) and iPitch fan. Like LRJ, he says he doesn't like to overdo it with too much data ("hitting is hard enough"). He also confirmed that he's swinging more aggressively by design to test some things out against AFL pitching, hence the uncharacteristic BB/K numbers. Interview starts about ~22 minutes into the episode. 3. Dominguez in DR Johan Dominguez pitched in LIDOM yesterday. He went 3IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 1K. The run was a little unlucky, scored on a single and steal followed by two flyouts that both advanced the runner. He's at 6IP, 1ER total through 2 outings.

Here's Colson's first RBI hit: https://www.mlb.com/video/colson-montgomery-s-rbi-single And another angle of the walkoff: https://www.mlb.com/video/montgomery-s-walk-off-single Props to Ramos too for starting the 9th inning rally with a leadoff hit and scoring the tying run.

10 pitch full count walk off base hit for Colson wins the game. Eder was solid in his first 2IP (1H, 1BB, 2K), but walks and steals burned him later. He finished with 3.1IP, 4R. Ramos finished 1-4 with a run scored. Colson was 2-4 with a BB and 2 RBI including the game winner.
-
Ramos showed some nice plate discipline last week, going 3-11 with a team-leading 5 walks. Pretty uneventful week for the bats otherwise, with no XBH from any of the guys and not a ton of ABs due to the shortened schedule (11 for Montgomery and Ramos, 16 for Burke). On the pitching side, Eder had his longest outing at 4 IP. Cousin had some bad luck in his 2.2IP / 3R start. Ellard was solid in two appearances (2IP, 0R, 1H, 4K) , and Leasure continues to be very good (2.1IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 5K). He has 13 K in 26 batters faced. Coffey had one brief and rocky outing. The Week Ahead The AFL HR Derby and Fall Stars game are both this weekend, so I imagine we'll know soon if any Sox are participating. In the meantime, there's 4 games on the schedule only one of which will be streamed (Nov. 2). Game 1: GDD vs. SRR (Gameday | No Stream) Eder gets the start. Montgomery and Ramos both move up a spot in the lineup with Burke getting the day off.
-
Game 5: GDD vs. SRR (Gameday | No Stream) All three Sox bats played in a 7 inning game to end the week. Montgomery went 0-3 with an RBI groundout. Burke went 1-4 with a SB. Bryan Ramos reached in every AB, 1-1 with 2BB. Fraser Ellard threw a scoreless 2K inning. Leasure got his first multi-inning appearance, getting the last out of the 6th and all of the 7th: 1.1IP, 0H, 1BB, 2K. His BAA is down to .083.

Cousin pitched out of the pen last night, I assume since there's more starters than starts available this week. He went 2.2IP 4H, 3R, 2K, 2BB. Two of the hits were IF singles, including a grounder he tipped off his glove that would have been an easy out if he didn't touch it. The only XBH was a solo shot. The other runs are from a 2 out walk + single, which came around to score on a double steal, an E2 thrown into center, and then a pitch that got away from the catcher. 4 steals against and 2 errors for the catcher in total... Not much offense to speak of, but I should shout out Ramos' smart baserunning. He hit a bloop single with runners on first and second to load the bases...but the guy on second kept running for some reason and got tagged out. Ramos made the heads up move to hustle to second himself to keep two RISP. He then beat out a FC sliding into 3rd on the next play. Game 4: GDD vs. MSS (Gameday | No Stream) No stream today. Ramos/Montgomery are off, so only Burke in the lineup.
-
The Desert Dogs W8 came to an end yesterday. The offense struggled, and 9 of the first 10 batters reached against the pen in the 8th (4 against Coffey). 7-2 final. Montgomery was 1-4 with a BB. Burke was 1-5 and also reached on an error. Ramos was 0-2 with 2 BB and also hustled to second on a routine fly ball that the CF dropped for an E8. Game 3: GDD vs. MSS (Gameday | Live Stream) Off day for Burke, Colson and Ramos in their usual spots. Live stream is here: https://www.mlb.com/video/live-fall-league-mss-vs-gdd-89761

"Minor league athletic trainers" (or strength coaches, nutritionists, etc.) are in demand by every org every offseason and being based at the ST complex but traveling to affiliates is standard practice. It doesn't necessarily denote a leadership role as opposed to being like...the guy who works with players in the Kannapolis weight room. Orgs have plenty of trainers/coaches that aren't the "named" folks/positions, and there's usually a fair amount of turnover. For example, the other Sox are currently hiring an undisclosed number of "Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches [who] will report to Fort Myers, FL for Spring Training and then travel with an affiliate team": https://www.teamworkonline.com/baseball-jobs/fenwaysports/boston-red-sox/assistant-minor-league-strength-conditioning-coach-2056252 And you can tell it's not any sort of high level role because previous baseball or coaching experience is merely "a plus" ?

The "generic" link is here: https://www.mlb.com/arizona-fall-league/live-streams But I can post a direct link once it's actually live at ~8:20 CST.

Game 2: GDD vs. SRR (Gameday | Live Stream) Guess who's back, back again...Colson's back, tell a friend ? He's batting 3rd, Burke 2nd, and Ramos 7th. There's a stream for both tonight and tomorrow's games.
