Leasure got the save for Charlotte in Game 2. 1-2-3 inning with 1K. My guy Mason Adams is carving 'em up for WS. 8K through 5 spotless innings.
-
Need Jeff to grab a shot of Wolkow and Nishida next to each other.
-
Thrilled for Mena, though I do sometimes wish our top arms could be spared the pitcher's nightmare that is Truist Field.
-
Colson with a nice snag and tag on a wide throw from Quero for an inning ending CS.
-
2 out triple for Nishida, 8 pitch Gonzo walk. He takes 2nd on a WP, and Harris knocks them both in with a bloop to CF.
-
McDougal out after hitting his pitch count. 4.2IP, 2 "ER", 4H, 4K, 1BB. The first run followed a throwing error that let a base stealer advance to third. He scored on a single. The second was scored after he was pulled. Reliever gave up a HR allowing his inherited runner on 1B to score.

Chappy 2 run HR gives WS a 2-1 lead.

If this is true, it's malpractice.

Kannapolis gets walked off again. With the recent promotions/injuries, they can't find the offense to put teams away early and don't have the arms to hold small leads late.

Quero with the day off. He's only caught Cannon once during his time as a Baron so far (although fun fact, he caught him at the Futures game before the trade).
-
Thought that might happen, with the ACL season ending. Will be nice to get to see him in action.
-
Some questionable umpiring in the Barons game. Ramos made what appeared to be an inning ending DP, catching a bases loaded liner and then tagging the bag for the force. Ump calls no catch, so a run scores and the inning continues. Bundy ejected. Noted pickoff expert Gil Luna comes on in relief and ends the inning without making a pitch, catching the runner off first.

Kannapolis gets walked off for the second day in a row. Another nice start from Batista (5IP, 1ER, 2BB, 3K). He's been very solid, with just 4ER across his 3 starts (15IP) so far. UDFA Connery Peters made his affiliate debut and threw two scoreless (1H, 2K). RHRP Connor Pellerin got the first half of a two inning save attempt in a scoreless 8th, but gave up a walk and HR in the 9th. The Knights emulate the big league club and win a walkoff in 10, 4-3. Recently acquired José Ureña made his second start, and put up a respectable line: 5.2IP, 2ER, 6H, 6K, no walks. Deivi Garcia had a scoreless inning. Leasure got 2Ks in his inning, but gave up a Charlotte solo shot. Cronin went 2IP hitless/scoreless, including stranding the free runner in the 10th to get the W. Hackenberg got the walkoff hit. Xavier Fernandez nudged his OPS over 1.000 with a 2B and 2 walks.

Nastrini gave up a run on a pair of doubles in the 5th, the first real contact against him. The other two hits were a lucky bloop and Castillo getting his feet tangled on a routine grounder to second but it not being ruled an error. Quero gets the lead back with a homer against his old team, scoring Veras who walked.

Popeye rocket double, Montgomery bloop single breaks a scoreless tie.
-
Sprinkle ? He's been looking better at the plate since his return.
-
Nastrini K's the side in the 1st for Bham. Vera on the bump in WS.

Gio with his best showing as an Angel. 6IP, 1ER, 9K. Unfortunately, he takes the L because of 3 unearned runs allowed by Angels defense. The Angels offense managed 3 runs, all on solo shots.
-
Nishida just reached on a HBP after a 9 pitch AB. It's fun to see guys work counts and reach base, but it's especially fun with him because he started 0-2 so you also get to see his 2 strike crouch routine a bunch. Dying to know what pitchers think when they see it.
-
Popeye made an impressive running basket catch on a foul ball. He's got wheels. Barons win 10-4. Multihit efforts for Popeye, Ramos, Veras, and Elko. Montgomery reached twice and scored both times. Quero had an RBI single and 2 walks. Really feels like we're doing Project Birmingham again, but the guys just already there. Nastrini on the bump tomorrow.

Barons bats add on late with a fun little bat around to put the game away Womack flyout Tatum BB Popeye single (should have been a double, but he stopped at first) Montgomery catcher's interference Ramos pop out Veras 2B (of course), 2 RBI Wild pitch scores Montgomery Quero walks Elko RBI single Mieses RBI single Womack K Nice to see Popeye making good contact again after cooling off a bit in the last series. Veras' double was his 2nd of the night, and 10th in his 14 games at AA.

Mena in August: 24.2IP across 4 starts. 7ER, 26K, 7BB. 2.55 ERA. Man, if he keeps this up...
-
Mena gives up an unearned run when Ramos makes a bad throw past 1B and the runner gets to second and then scores on a ground rule double. Popeye leads off the next inning with his own ground rule double. Ramos drives him in. Veras hits a double off the wall to score Ramos. Barons up 4-1 and still threatening.
