  1. I mean...if you've watched Nishida, I literally can't imaging talking about him without mentioning his personality. The fact that he plays the game with such obvious joy makes him emphatically calling himself safe after hustling out IF singles and putting defenses on edge dancing on the basepaths so much fun to watch. It's not a "skill" but it absolutely is a unique part of his game.
  2. Veras is so fun when he's on.
  3. I think this is where I'm at. He could probably start, but the MIRP routine is clearly working for him and being a top 3 RP in the system is probably more valuable than being a top...12? SP right now.
  4. Batista with 6IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 4K tonight. Just 3 ER in 4 starts (21 IP) since promotion, good for a 1.29ERA/0.86 WHIP. Schweitzer had a no hitter going into the 5th in Bham. Finished with 6IP, 2R (1ER), 3H, 2BB, 6K. Zach Franklin threw a scoreless 9th and 10th for the Barons 3-2 W. He's been great in his first few AA outings. 4IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 6K. He has more wins than baserunners allowed.
  5. Knights came back from down 6-2 early to win 16-7. They managed a couple strategies unfamiliar to the big league team: Hitting a bunch of HR Coming back to win a game Getting Soroka a W Deloach 1-3 with a BB and 2RBI. Elko 1-5 with the HR above. Montgomery 1-5 with a 2B. Colas 1-4 with a BB.
  6. Carlton Perkins had some nasty stuff today. 5IP, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 9K. Ballers up 6-3 behind some big hits from A-Mak and Wolkow
  7. Eder finally gets a W. He goes 5IP, 2ER, 5H, 2BB, 6K. The second run was a 90mph 344ft solo shot that one imagines is a fly out in more MLB parks than not. Got at least a couple whiffs on all 4 pitches, and was spinning the curveball especially well today. He was never under much stress outside of some traffic in the first, and the bats made it easy the rest of the way for an 8-3 final. Ramos 3-5 with his 2 HRs. Probably time for a call up. Colson 2-4 with a 2B and HR. Deloach 1-4 with a 2B and BB. Elko 1-5 with a 2B and 3K. Colas 1-3 with a BB. Would also like to see some Charlotte pen arms called up.
  8. Ramos just crushed another, 424ft 104mph
  9. DeLoach double, Ramos HR to give Eder a 2-1 lead in the 4th. Colson adds a solo shot, 3-1.
  10. LOL Tatum just stole home to walk it off for the Barons, 3-2. 5IP scoreless for the BP following up Schultz. 2IP for Plymell, another 2IP for Pallette who looks like a fast mover now that he's found his role, and 1IP/2K and the W for Zach Franklin. And now that the higher level games are wrapped up, I can shout out our other lefty first rounders for having good days on the other side of the ball. Colson had a 3-4 night with a BB and RBI, and Gonzo was 2-3 with 1 2B, BB, and SB. Knights offense was hot overall today. They won 10-1. Ramos 2-4 with a BB, DeLoach 2-5 with a RBI, Elko 1-5 with a 2RBI 2B. Scoreless BP work from Peralta (2IP), Berroa, and Coffey. Peralta has a 1.27 ERA/0.81 WHIP for Charlotte. I've liked him since his AFL stint, so I'm glad we got him back.
  11. I want to highlight some newer/lesser known guys in Kanny, who won tonight 5-1. One is 21yo RHSP Ricardo Brizuela, who threw his best start of the season today: 6IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 3K. If you ignore his very first A ball inning where he got tagged for 6 runs, he's got a 1.86 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 38.2IP at the level. And even after the terrible first inning, he battled to still give the team 5IP in that first start. There's also a pair of new bats off to good starts at the level. IF Sam Antonacci (5th round) was 3-4 with a pair of doubles today, and has quietly overtaken Wolkow with a .828 OPS (.289/.460/.368). A silly 11 BB to 6 K in 12 games. And corner IF Alec Makarewicz (UDFA) who has hit in 12 straight and is slashing .295/.377/.410 with 18 hits/12RBI in his 16 games.
  12. Another solid outing for Nastrini after his last start got cut short by the ump: 5IP, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 6K. 11 whiffs on the slider. Nishida running himself out of that leadoff triple ended up mattering. Dash sacrifice a position player to get walked off in extras after they couldn't break a 1-1 tie. Must have missed why they ran out of pitching while flipping between games? They only used 3 BP arms yesterday, and 3 today after Smith.
  13. Schultz finished his 4IP with 2R (both unearned), 2H (the second was a very playable groundball to 2B), 0 walks, 3K. Consistent 97-98 on the FB.
  14. Charlotte send 9 to the plate in the first, and spot Nastrini a 6-0 lead. He has a quick 1-2-3 inning to get the bats back out there. Schultz got burned by back to back errors for a pair of unearned runs. Smith pitched out of second and third 1 out (two singles, the second an unlucky chopper where a late throw to third let the runner advance) with a pair of Ks. He's done after 3IP/38P. 4 strikeouts, no walks (but one HBP), 2 singles, every BIP was on the ground.
  15. Over in Kanny, Wolkow gets the Ballers on the board with an RBI single. And a 1-2-3 first for Schultz in Bham. Rise of the lefties.
  16. Smith's first inning: 3-1 GB 4-3 GB HBP swinging K against his former teammate/catcher Creed Willems
  17. Smith debut is free to watch, should be around 3 innings from him (though it's apparently more of a pitch limit than an innings limit).
  18. Sounds like a minimum length stay on the IL for Quero. Should be back this week and "under consideration" for a late season call up but they don't want to rush him, per Getz.
  19. Not only the same game, but the same at bat. He was at the plate when the game was suspended and will be behind it when the game resumes.
  20. Some notes: Kanny were lost on defense to start the game. LMG looks like he's still knocking off the rust at 1B. Ronny Hernandez is usually solid behind the plate, but allowed his first 2 passed balls of the season today. He caught 2 runners...out of 8. Not the best welcome for the new arms. Kanny was down 5-1, but got the comeback 8-6 win largely anchored by Wolkow. Over in Charlotte, Knights won 8-3. DeLoach is staying hot. He was 3-4 with a HR, 2B, and BB. August line up to .348/.451/.565. Good defender too, I'm a fan. McGough (Eloy trade) has a 0.68 WHIP and .143 BAA as a Knight. I like him too. WS continued their streak of losing despite outhitting their opponent. Bockenstedt didn't have it today, allowed 6 baserunners in the first before getting an early hook for pitch count.
  21. WS has been shutout 3 games in a row, despite outhitting the opposition in the last two. Unfortunate. Jake Peppers had one no good, very bad 6 run inning, and Kanny lost 7-3. Barons bats started off hot and never looked back, they won 8-2. Veras continued a 14 game on base streak with a 3-5 night. Schweitzer had maybe his best start of the season. 6IP, 3H, 0ER, 1BB, 6K. Gets the W. Pallette made his AA debut and picked up where he left off for the Dash: 2IP, 0H, 0BB, 2K.
