  1. Good A+ debut for Nishida batting leadoff, 2-5 with a run scored and SB. Jake Bockenstedt's debut went less well. 2.2IP, 9H (2HR), 7ER, 1BB, 2K. It was a high scoring affair overall, Dash won 11-10 after going down 9-5 at one point. And in other promotion/debut news, Elko gets the start at 1B for his first AAA game.
  2. In another trade related quirk, this was the continuation of a game that got suspended last month with 2 outs in the 9th with Norby at the plate. He's a Marlin now, so they had to have someone else finish his AB. I've watched McGough a bit vs. the Knights, pretty decent stuff.
  3. FWIW, a different guy on the Cards beat says basically the opposite:
  4. Reylo pulled from his start early with forearm soreness:
  5. Schultz ran into control issues in the 4th, loading the bases with a walk and two HBP. Won a long battle vs. a RHH for a K for the first out, but gets the hook for pitch count. Mikel stranded the runners with 2K. Schultz' final line: 3.1IP, 0ER, 3H, 6K, 2BB (2HBP). His Barons ERA ticks back below 2.
  6. Nishida with his first career HR! A 3 run go ahead shot.
  7. Iriate with a hidden no-hitter across his last two starts (5IP/0H and 4IP/0H).
  8. Can someone more versed in draft particulars than I am clarify if the Angels get some kind of future compensatory pick/money for this?
  9. Big milestone for the big guy
  10. 4 hitless, even. Barons pitching gave up just 1 hit between the two games to sweep the DH. Knights also swept their DH. Colson played both and went 3-5 for the day with a walk, 2B, and HR. Kannapolis got an early lead (4-0 through 2) before getting rained out and WS was rained out before taking the field, so it'll be their turn to play two tomorrow.
  11. 5 hitless for Iriarte, but they pulled him early due to the long layoff (6K, 1BB). Schoenle finishes it off with 2IP hitless of hit own (3K, 1BB). Barons (literally) walk it off with a bases loaded BB for the 1-0 win and abbreviated no-hitter.
  12. ICYMI, Wolkow is no longer the tallest player on the Kannapolis roster. 22yo RHP Carson Jacobs (2023 UDFA) joined the team just before the break, and he's 6'9" (nice). Threw two hitless/scoreless innings tonight, 4K and 1BB. Batista was effective despite a rare 0 strikeout game. Still a QS (6IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB). Wolkow finished 2-4 with a double, BB, K, and 4 RBI. Nishida 1-4 with a BB and 2K. Nishida has played 83 games, and this is just his 10th with more than 1K (he has 14 games with multiple walks, and 27 with multiple hits). 20yo CF Alvaro Aguero looks surprisingly comfortable in his first stint on a full season affiliate. 1-4 today, .393/.433/.464 with 4SB through 8 games (28 AB) so far, and he made a really excellent catch + assist for an inning ending DP.
  13. Knights and Barons postponed, they'll both play two tomorrow.
