  1. not sure there is much going on here... probably just up for a day or two while Thornton is gone.

With the way the Sox work though... who knows.

White Sox Promote Randy Williams from AAA Charlotte

The White Sox have reportedly promoted LHP Randy Williams from AAA Charlotte. Williams will join Matt Thornton, who has returned to Minnesota after attending the birth of his child, as the lefties in the Sox pen. No official word on who Williams will replace on the White Sox roster but SoxNet is hearing that Bartolo Colon, who was scratched (elbow) from tonight's start will be placed on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to July 24th.

Williams, 33, has made 38 major league appearances (San Diego, Seattle, and Colorado) and posted a 6.68 ERA. In 33 games with the Charlotte Knights (AAA), Williams was 3-0 with a 3.44 ERA and limited opponents to a .220 batting average.

    SN Take:

    • With Colon scheduled to go back on the disabled list, Clayton Richard is expected to rejoin the rotation.

    • Williams will give Ozzie the added flexibility of having two lefty relievers in the pen that he can count on (or at least that's what the Sox hope). He had Poreda for a while but it was clear that Ozzie didn't feel comfortable calling the young lefties name in a pressure situation and that is why we see Williams up as opposed to the more promising Poreda.

  2. Mark Gonzales is reporting it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox have a new pitcher on there team in the next 24 hours.

If it is a BP guy... it needs to be a lefty to allow Clayton back to the rotation.

*I hope we don't pay the price being asked for Sherrill.
