  1. Scott Boras is right a lot more than he's wrong when he talks about baseball economics. The fact of the matter is that all 30 teams could afford whatever FA they want, they just choose not to. If the owners want anyone else to believe otherwise, then open up the books to the players. Until then I believe it's just 20 owners being cheap and laughing to the bank.
  2. Different sport, but look at the Edmonton Oilers. They have the best player since Wayne Gretzky and another top 5 player in the league and can't win s%*#.
  3. Cubs were more of a clownshow until they got new ownership. We need to hope for the same and hopefully the Sox remain in Chicago. I really think we underestimate the damage that Jerry has done to the Sox over the last decade. The Sox leaving Chicago under new ownership is a real threat.
  4. Wouldn't surprise me if Len is out after his contract is up. He wanted to do playoff games and there will be none of those on the south side for a long time. Literally, this is the plot of Major League going on. Jerry is pissing off the fans to the point of complete apathy and I really don't think a lot of us care anymore. It really seems like he wants to finish what he started in the late 80s.
  5. I think something like the Sale deal is the framework. 1 top 5 prospect, one top 40 prospect, and either another top 100 or two young players with potential to grow into top 100 types. Someone offers that this offseason and I'd probably pull the trigger because that's probably the max another team is willing to pay.
  6. This is the unfortunate truth. It might be 2 years before someone is willing to pay what it takes for Robert. I'm pretty sure he's untradeable this offseason. Similar to Sale, you might be able to get an adequate return in winter 2024-25 with 3 years left.
  7. I don't understand after one bounceback year after being absolute garbage for 3 years straight.
  8. You think Bellinger will get $200M? I'd be shocked. I have him around $125. It's not something I'd be comfortable with either.
  9. He's not guaranteed to be fixed. Bellinger was really bad for like 2-3 seasons before last year. There's a lot of volatility there and he might get a 9 figure deal but I wouldn't offer him that. Just way too much risk.
  10. I pay attention mildly to the Sox these days for social reasons more than me caring. I enjoy this board and the banter, and a lot of my friends are Sox fans.
  11. What part of .214/.279/.806 with 102 K in 88 games screams MLB player to you? Literally the only part of that that is ok is the slugging percentage.
  12. I'd argue that Burger on the Sox was not an MLB player. He became one on the Marlins. The only reason why everyone liked him so much is that he hit for power in a lineup that was starved for it.
  13. Burger wouldn't have made the adjustments he made if he was still on the Sox. He'd probably have stayed a low avg/low OBP, all power hitter with tons of ks. It's time to just write it off and say it wouldn't have happened here.
  14. It's not that Andrus is good, it's that Merrifield is just as bad, if not slightly worse. Because Baseball is an individual sport masquerading as a team sport, the eye test means very little at the highest level. Numbers tell the whole story.
  15. Tracks well with a Jerry Reinsdorf team. It's basically what the Sox did from 2022-23. Expect similar results.
  16. How do you go from drafting Montgomery and Schultz back to back to taking Jacob Gonzalez with a higher pick than either of those were?
