  1. Picture this. All of Jerry’s investors who have been around for the last 40 years are now gone, and it’s just Jerry and Ishbia. Ishbia gets the new ballpark figured out, largely by himself. Now the crowded board room shrinks to 2, and Jerry has the security of both (1) having a new stadium built and (2) knowing there is a succession plan in place. He will be less scared. Maybe he even takes a liking to Ishbia and knows that he’ll be comfortable absorbing big contracts, etc. and that it will not affect the sale. Jerry can now try to win without feeling the weight of his decisions as much as before. His guys got paid, and he didn’t have to pay for the stadium. My point is, this can be a game changer even while Jerry retains control.
  2. Random question: are we expecting the team to go into the season with the same four uniforms (Pinstripes, Road Gray, Alternate Black, Southside) as last year?
  3. Thank you, don’t leave, Go White Sox @Harold's Leg Lift
  4. The longer Buck hangs around the more likely it’s him.
  5. Very good article that answers a lot of questions. If Grady has been this much of a player’s coach then hopefully he gets a chance to grow into his role as manager with this team. Hiring someone from the outside for a multiyear rebuilding project would be a hard sell.
  6. AJ as manager has always been something that had made a lot of sense. Almost too much sense. I think it’s worth trying to find someone who can manage the ball club for a long time, who will have respect of those around him, and will be forthcoming with the media. There is no perfect science to a managerial hire, as we all know by now. What I see is a very smart man who, upon taking the job, would fight harder than anyone else to build a winner. The organization needs someone that can rise above. In my opinion, if Pedro was a good manager, our record would be better than it is. I say this because if you look around baseball, even the worst organizations are 10-15 games better than us. Being a Chicago White Sock is fighting an uphill battle, and we need a manager that can take on that challenge. That quality might not be found in someone who was a bench coach on a heavily analytical and highly successful team. I hope this happens and works out.
  7. Sox should be the team that extends Crochet. It is so unfortunate that that isn’t allowed to be on the table. It wouldn’t even have to be for an ungodly amount (5 years 120M maybe gets it done). But we’re not allowed to entertain that because we are the White Sox.
  8. I’m almost certain that Heyman means Garrett would need a contract extension.
  9. Pretty sure Chris Illitch has been anti spending money. I forget the specifics, but the Tigers were one of the few teams to vote against a pro-spending rule.
  10. I think Robert will go. I don’t think Getz is going to shoot for the stars on this deal. Similar to the Cease deal. He’ll “settle” for market value and not risk the possibility of injury and poor 2nd half performance. With DiPoto and Dombrowski in the mix, you can get fair value at this deadline. It’s a marriage of Getz wanting to move on from the previous core and those execs selling themselves on a player with a lot of potential.
  11. I think the potential AL ASG starter should be extended and not traded. The only non arbitration contracts on the books are Benintendi and Stassi. This downright refusal to pay players past their rookie contracts is ludicrous. 29 other teams in baseball would behave differently.
  12. Jim Margulus of Sox Machine pieced together Bob Nightengale columns in this week’s podcast and came up with the following conclusions: - Tony was making $4M/year as Sox manager - Pedro is making $1M/year as Sox manager
  13. Getz, taking a deep breath, marches into the Chairman’s office: “I’d like to fire Pedro Grifol.” Jerry replies with a quick no. Getz: “And install Tony La Russa. He’s a hall of famer baseball man and will help us right the ship.” And poof, Tony is back.
  14. From the looks of that article Heyman is saying that Robert is the most likely player to get traded at the deadline. They are going to trade everyone they can. This is ridiculous.
  15. Kap said this was a prediction based off no intel whatsoever.
  16. How can we as a community prevent Robert from being traded?
  17. That rule is about control of the club, which Jerry has. He never sold control of the club. If the caller is right (he’s not the first to say it) then we can assume someone like Mellody Hobson or even Michael Reinsdorf owns the largest percentage of the team while Jerry has control. The question is whether this matters when there is a sale. Does this owner buy the remaining or does a corporation come in and buy it?
  18. Where does it say ownership? I clearly see control but not ownership.
  19. My guess is that this wouldn’t be a true ownership change; Reinsdorf is still General Partner even if he owned 0.1%.
  20. It’s been a bad year from a managerial standpoint. They probably should let somebody else take charge. Loss today and we’re 30 under .500 on June 2nd.
  21. I don’t know how Pedro would remain the manager after this winless road trip.
  22. Good point, Stephen Vogt comes to mind though.
  23. There needs to be a change. Grady Sizemore or Charlie Montoyo will hopefully get an extended look.
