Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs

So this would apply to Fedde then as well? -

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
WhiteSox2023 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Nice conspiracy theory, but the Sox don’t need any help from Heyman for fans to be upset. The owner sucks, he gifted the GM job to an unworthy candidate without interviewing anyone else from outside the organization, and they are in the middle of their worst season ever. But yeah, Heyman is the evil supervillain making up news about Crochet and making the Sox look bad. Wow… Is it really a surprise that an MLB player in the middle of a great season is trying to guarantee himself money? He is obviously not entirely confident in his ability to stay healthy, especially if he is overextended on innings. Why is it such a shocker that an MLB player, likely with an ego like most and with previous injury history, wants to guarantee himself money considering his biggest payday was a ~$4.5 million dollar signing bonus from when he was first drafted? -
Will it be any surprise at all when these guys pan out for the Rays?
-
True. I like the return for Puk more. But then again, we don’t know who the PTBNL is yet.
-
Yep, sorry. Free agent in 2027. Updated my post.
-
Arozarena will turn 30 over the offseason and sure doesn’t seem to be improving. The Mariners will have two more expensive arbitration years left. The Rays definitely know when to dump guys.
-
Mariners #12 and #22 prospects.
-
I guess neither of us know one way or the other.

I just can’t wait to hear the excuses for Getz, as a follow-up to the excuses for his mostly garbage offseason. “Teams didn’t want our players…” “It takes two teams to make a deal…” ”How do you know Getz won’t get more for Crochet / Robert / Fedde in the offseason?”
-
Getz is just outclassed by every other GM and low payroll team that knows you have to move quick with trades.
-
Not a shocker at all. While Getz was quick to acquire a bunch of veteran bums this past offseason that are going to set the franchise losers record, he is now slow to trading away his entire roster minus one guy (Thorpe) when it is the most obvious path forward.
-
Getz is a day late and a dollar short. What a buster.

A team with very close to zero major league position player talent, and not much more in the minors, should not have a s%*# list that includes any once highly ranked position player prospects. And a terrible 28 year old 1B with no hitting ability and no power (.688 career OPS!) should definitely not be getting at bats in the outfield over a guy like Colas. Terrible roster management.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs

I’m more worried about him getting injured this time because they are working him so hard, not necessarily due to his previous injuries. If they extended him right now, they should effectively end his season early. -

Well, first I would look to extend him, but we all know who the Sox owner is. Otherwise, I look to trade him at this deadline first and in the offseason second. You can’t take the chance that he either gets injured or doesn’t repeat what he is doing now next season. Ideally, you trade him at this deadline to avoid any potential injury altogether. -

There have been several reports of interested teams for weeks. Are those teams not aware of Crochet’s innings issues? I think the extension demand from today is more impactful on if he gets traded or not. -

Well, it definitely shows he cares more about money than winning, which is probably the majority of players. He may have sabotaged his chance of pitching for a contender. -

Well, the Marlins just received two nice position player prospects (A 3B/1B anked #14 and a CF ranked #30 in the D-backs system) for lefty reliever A.J. Puk. I think quite a few people on this board would have been happy with that same return for Kopech. It is looking like a seller’s market already. -

August 5, 2023: Selected off waivers by the Chicago White Sox from the San Diego Padres. He put up an 11.12 ERA in 5.2 innings for the Sox last year. -
I would have been very happy with this return for Kopech as well.
-
Great stories. All-Star father and son beards as well.
-
I wonder what scouts think about him? His minor league numbers that last couple years don’t really justify his #67 ranking in MLB’s top 100, and I’m guessing he may be off the list completely in their next update. But if the Sox scouts (yikes) think Melton is legit, a Melton and SS Brice Matthews package could net Fedde. The Astros would probably rather give up Melton than Matthews.

You are correct. Oof, Puk was terrible as a starter and is now amazing as a reliever. And no, we are not getting a similar return for Tanner freaking Banks.
