5/8/25 White Sox @ Royals 1:10 PM CST

And how bad Venable’s lineups are. -
Hey, give Getz some credit. This team is on pace for 44 wins. That’s a whole 3 win improvement over last year’s record setting team. What an amazing GM!
-
Getz needs to stop acquiring the worst bums in the majors so when they do inevitably get cut, they don’t ever return to the team after clearing their DFA and getting outrighted to the minors.
-
Yikes, what a return. Remember when last season was just a fluky bad season for Zavala? Ughhh… Meanwhile, Wilson was DFA’ed, Iriarte walks the world, and we have to wait another year to see what Thorpe is.
-
Maton? Check.
-
Some teams draft a Bobby Witt. Others draft Colson Montgomery.
-
The Rangers optioned Burger to AAA, they didn’t release him.
-
That simply makes no sense. Even if Getz and the Sox don’t think much of Elko’s hitting ability in the majors, we already know Maton sucks. Elko could definitely fail in the majors but he at least has youth on his side. He is 26, two years younger than Maton.
-
Yuck. The downside to Getz collecting a bunch of players that no other team wants is that they always come back like zombies. 🧟 🤮 So Benintendi DH’ed a handful of times and Maton was previously pretty much our primary DH, but Elko can’t get a call-up? What a clown shoes operation Getz is running. Even Getz supporters have to question this stupid roster management. NBC Sports take on this move. No one understands the roster decisions this team makes anymore. 🤣

At least the Sox can identify good starting pitching talent. Bullpen? Not so much. -
Soxtalk mourns the passing of our beloved friend Alex (Heads)

Awful news to hear, and even though I didn’t know Alex personally this news made me sick to my stomach hear. I just remembered him posting in a game thread last Friday and cracking me up with a couple of his short posts below. A terrible accident that cost eight lives including Alex’s. Multiple generations of lives. I feel sorry for his family and all of you that knew him personally. RIP, Alex. -
Two hilarious errors all in one play. Taylor threw that ball to 2B like someone who has never thrown a baseball trying to throw out a first pitch. He launched it so high, haha.

Booser, another feather in our GM’s cap. Getz actually gave up a prospect for a 33-year old bum reliever. Another reliever in the bullpen with no control that walks too many batters. -
Haha, so true. I think it’s mostly that Stone Pony has been hyping Vaughn up year after year practically guaranteeing that he was going to break out eventually… and it simply hasn’t happened. Stone Pony’s ego is too massive to ever admit he was wrong, well, that and he has gone full company man since his Cubs days of actually being critical of those teams when they were bad. He’s just saving up as much as he can for retirement at this point.

The sad thing is that this team is better than last year’s but it is still only on pace for a 5 win improvement. -
Riordan got a week-long suspension for those comments, and it happened before Bernstein was fired for his threatening comments to some guy on Twitter about killing a fish he caught rather than throwing it back. It’s still hard to believe Riordan wasn’t ultimately canned for his mouth. I would still put money on him being dumped for a combination of saving money with a younger cheaper producer and also for his previous stupid comments. But then again, Riordan likely wanted to join a show as an on-air talent and The Score instead gave the full-time gig to the absolutely terrible Leila Rahimi to partner with the extremely boring Marshall Harris. But they probably knew that if Riordan had his own show, he would ultimately say something stupid and get the station in trouble. Either way, it couldn’t have happened to a bigger d-bag… outside of Bernstein of course. Here are a couple more articles hinting that it wasn’t a mutual decision and Riordan was likely canned and/or he was not happy about Rahimi being named a full-time host… https://awfulannouncing.com/radio/shane-riordan-announces-departure-670-the-score.html https://awfulannouncing.com/radio/shane-riordan-breaks-silence-score-departure.html

Sox trade for RHSP Evan McKendry from Brewers

Getz is losing favor with the big guy. -
Elko is still a slugger. If you are waiting for him to improve much on a 29/30% strikeout rate, you may as well leave him in Charlotte as a career minor leaguer and forget about him. The truth is, Vaughn is a bust and can’t hit anyways and Elko isn’t getting any younger. It should be an easy decision.
-
Do you think it is really just to give Vaughn more time in the majors to attempt to straighten himself out? Or something else? Honestly, none of it even makes sense. Trying to reason this is just weird… Elko should obviously be called up. He is crushing it and he has earned it. It’s not like he’s a 21/22 year old prospect that they may not want to start his clock yet, until other prospects are ready. He turns 27 at the end of the year. I can’t imagine a better time to call up an aging prospect that is performing well than right now. Meanwhile, Vaughn is slumping horribly and apparently they could send him to AAA to work on his swing, but they won’t do it. And even regardless of this, it’s pretty apparent that the Sox will more than likely be non-tendering him after this season anyways. So why is Vaughn being treated like the team’s star player? What are we all missing? Or is this just nonsensical decision making by the Sox?
