You just mentioned three guys that are all younger than Tauchman. So you are basically saying there is no reason to play those guys because Colas has been blackballed by the Sox and the other two guys were bust acquisitions by Getz? Do you really want to see a 34 year old dude starting in RF for this team with where it’s at?
-
I also laughed when Merkin mentioned the possibility of a starting platoon of Tauchman and Slater in RF in his latest article. Why?
-
Best post of the thread. Tauchman probably is a nice clubhouse guy and all but what point does he have on this roster? You aren’t trading him for any good return no matter what he does in the first half and he just prevents younger guys from getting at bats. I can see Robert getting moved but what team is taking Benintendi? That’s a pipe dream, unless Getz is neutering the return of Crochet or Robert with his inclusion.
-
With the additions of Slater and Tauchman, I’d like to know what the plan is. Unless both Robert and Benintendi are traded, will these guys get any playing time this year?
-
Yep, these guys aren’t even truly young anymore.

Interesting news. Nice find. So Mayer + Montgomery could be a legit proposal. But that also means so is Abreu, Casas, and Wong. Jerry apologizes for a record setting season of losses. Breslow apologizes for a .500 season. A .500 season would be a success to Jerry. There’s your difference between losers and winners. -
The Cubs sold assets last trade deadline. Tauchman was not traded. The Cubs then non-tendered him last month.
-
Exactly. I’m sure he will be more expensive than the duo that Getz signed but pass on Slater and Tauchman and sign Hays, a guy who is still somewhat young, could have a bounceback season, and could be traded for something of value. Hays is a flip candidate. These guys are veteran fodder.
-
Is that his stage name? 🤣
-
A lot of people put in an honest day’s work. That doesn’t mean they are any good at baseball. Tauchman is 34 years old and isn’t likely to put up a good season. Not sure who compared Tauchman to Benintendi but neither player does anything for this team.
-
A collection of bad outfielders isn’t outfield depth. Most teams wouldn’t want any of these guys getting any playing time.
-
I doubt it’s any indication. The Sox have never been a team that cares much about outfield defense. They could’ve just thrown Fletcher in CF, had they thought they were close to a Robert trade.
-
A bench outfielder for the Cubs the past couple seasons. Could be starting for the Sox next season.
-
Even if mediocre vets like Slater and Tauchman have good first halves, you aren’t getting back much of anything for them. These aren’t true one year “flip” candidates. Flip candidates are guys who have been good in the past and had a down year. These are cheap vets that were never really good players. Instead of signing these two scrubs, sign Austin Hays to a one year deal and see what he can do. Hays is a flip candidate. Giving the younger outfielders that you mentioned above those at bats is worth more than the lottery tickets you are going to get back for Slater and Tauchman, if you even get anything for them at all. What the hell is Getz’s game plan here? Does he even have a strategy?

Live image of Getz…

34 years old. I’m sure his best year is ahead of him. I’d rather play the younger outfielder bums that Getz acquired last year and Colas. Being a Sox fan is depressing…

Mully and Mannelly have been asking over and over how you can draft a generational franchise QB and not surround him with a good OL.

Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread

Agreed. If the Yankees aren’t dealing Dominguez, screw ‘em. And there’s no position prospect very enticing in the Mets farm system. They mostly had garbage years like you said. Let these two teams force a bidding war and possibly up the ante for other teams with better prospects. -
The Sox have been trying to add a right fielder since the last time they got good production from the position. Avisail Garcia in 2017.
-
4 years of control left for Outman. He’s not any sort of solution to RF for the Sox. Add in 2 years of control for Lux and it would be very difficult to understand why Getz would make such a trade. It would basically be a sign that Getz is just trying to build a mediocre lineup, not build up toward any sort of contender. These guys match up well with acquisitions like Fletcher and Vargas.

We all do.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

Totally agreed. I’m not buying this fluff. It tells me Getz is trying to stir up his own interest cuz he intends on dealing Robert this offseason regardless of the strength of the offers. It’s the offseason of salary dumping. Getz had an early start with Eloy, Moncada, and Sheets. Crochet and Robert are next. And yes I know Sheets and Crochet weren’t due much money but it all adds up. No doubt, this was the plan all along and these marching orders were given to Getz by Jerry. -

I expect a big year from Getz’s #1 offseason target! -

I don’t think so just because it’s tough to be that horrible two years in a row, not that I think the overall talent of the roster will be much better this year, if at all.
